it's funny that a community of tattoo enthusiasts would either have authorities who were beyond question or else hierarchical rules about who could question what - i.e. a 'place' for new comers who are expected to be deferent under all circumstances.

Or perhaps not - perhaps this all falls under the umbrella of "traditional".

i dont have authority - just an opinion - one that i expressed already

  2. @Reed yeah wasnt sure what kind of wait list chris had - I've never been tattooed by him but I have been tattooed at the Immortal shop in Clinton a few times by Jamie Sawyer - like I said though - he did a whole sleeve - color - Marvel themed - on this local guy - when I first saw it it was several years healed and it looked amazing in person - I believe he does mostly black and grey now - and as you can see on his IG he seems pretty comfortable with that type of tattooing - I've also heard he's a super guy from my friend and Jamie - anyway - good luck - remember - whoever you choose - the wait list part should be last on your list of factors - especially when you have such a detailed piece in mind - enjoy

  3. well your boat tattoo is already upside down

so you want the coverup to also be upside down?

i'm confused by your post a little bit

and it kinda sounds like you're not really sure what you want

and where you want it - maybe stick around a bit and organize your ideas before charging ahead

@HettyKet his work is gorgeous and is definitely similar in feel to the two artists I originally linked to. My only issue is that these tattoos - like in traditional style, perhaps, seem a bit like appliqué's or stickers. I am wanting something that conforms more to the shape of the body, or flows into it's curvature more?

i think that sticker look your struggling with is the freshly applied hairless aspects of what new tattoos look like on IG, internet, etc

it wont look like a sticker for long - it'll look like its a part of you and your skin - because it will be

this thread has certainly got some legs to it - i have enjoyed the discussions and checking out some of the artwork on the artist IGs

though not the style i seek - there are some great looking tattoos out there in this style

  5. sometimes we forget that getting tattooed involves a little leap of faith in the outcome

a little bit of balls if you will

    shit can happen

    even with great tattooers

    lines can blowout

    some ink might dropout

    you could scab and scar

    fall off your skateboard

    get bit by a dog

    struck by lightening

so in the end - you do your research

    get your tattoo

and move on with your life

    time, skin, cash permitting

you do that shit again and again

  6. @Tiresius hey good luck - found Thys on IG

you'll notice here that most of us favor some form of traditional tattooing but hey whatever works for you - how is some of that no outline watercolor stuff gonna age on YOU - hey only one way to find out right - anyway - our tastes tend to evolve as we get deeper into this thing so keep an open mind and enjoy

  7. @Tiresius so who'd you book in with

i enjoyed checking out the work being done by those tattooers you identified in your original post

i say if you want to get some funky watercolor design then get it

dont worry about 20 years, 10 years - listen - you're only promised today - so go get your tattoo and enjoy it - who knows where your tattoo journey will take you - you may end up becoming attracted to a variety of styles and designs - who knows

good luck - keep us posted

    now go get tattooed!

  8. @Graeme absolutely the experience level helps - i enjoy talking tattos with tattooers as well - or just sometimes listening as tattooers talk to each other

at this point - when i get tattooed - most of the time tattooers want to see what i have and talk about what they have which is quite fun

this is why i think its crazy that someone would want to wear headphones while getting tattooed - you're missing all the good stories

I guess the question is how do you find the right tattooer if all you have is online portfolios which may be only fresh, new tattoos?

i think it gets you in the ballpark - and more important is understanding what a lived in tattoo looks like - people think that a tattoo is going to sustain that day 1 look - and it doesnt

i myself think lived in looks awesome - but like i said - some folks are expecting something else i think

  10. @Tiresius welcome

couple thoughts - @Graeme has good points

healed and hairy is gonna always look different

    better actually

but i do think you can get a good grasp of the tattooers work on IG

as for asking about inks - yeah i wouldnt

i dont think you need to do 'damage control'

    just move on

basically - if you arent a tattooer - you dont need to worry about those type of things

as least i dont - just find the right tattooer...and get tattooed

    repeat :)
