I just posted my anti-tattoo school idea on my blog Devil City Press Maybe you guys could tell me what you think and even jump in. I don't know Ami but I know there's lots of people out there who do. I think he needs to feel some heat and stand up for what's right. He's cashed in handsomely on tattooing and I feel like he owes a debt to the industry now in it's time of need. He needs to tell TLC that this show is wrong. They don't understand why it's wrong and they're not going to listen to us. Anyone who values tattooing that's getting a paycheck from TLC should be speaking up right now.

Just watched an awesome documentary on beer. If you guys enjoy the beer from micro-breweries and small, independent companies, this you have to watch! It goes over how budweiser, coors, and miller are the corporate behemoths taking over and trying to consume what micro-breweries have been doing, and how they control a huge part of the market. These 3 corporate companies make up over 90% of the market, and try to put smaller breweries out of business. I for one hate the way that beer tastes, and never did support it. It was really funny to see the people that have no clue on what a real beer should taste like, or educated enough to consider that "being a bud guy" makes you a stamp of their advertising. Anyways, here is a description of Beer Wars. Beer Wars is a 2009 documentary film about the American beer industry. In particular, it covers the differences between large corporate breweries, namely Anheuser-Busch, the Miller Brewing Company, and the Coors Brewing Company opposed to smaller breweries like Dogfish Head Brewery, Stone Brewery and other producers of craft beer. Also covered is how advertising and lobbyists are used to control the beer market, implying that these things harm competition and consumer choice. Throughout the film there is a theme that the smallest breweries have next to no chance to compete due to the sheer volume of advertising and outdated beer distribution laws. The original laws demanded a three tier system to separate the powers of selling beer. The law demands that the beer brewer cannot deliver directly to the retailer, supposedly creating a separation of powers resembling the US government's congress, judicial, and executive branches. The film claims these laws are now inhibiting growth of smaller brewers and therefore allowing the largest brewers (Coors, Anheuser-Busch, and Miller) to maintain a monopoly on beer. The film was written, produced, narrated, and directed by Anat Baron, former head of Mike's Hard Lemonade. This is on Netflix.

I figured most of us are movie snobs and nerds, so we should have a thread. First up is the movie "Take Shelter". Its directed by Jeff Nichols (Brother to Ben Nichols of Lucero.) Here is the trailer for your enjoyment. Looks promising, and its a pretty interesting concept. http://sundance.slated.com/2011/films/takeshelter_sundance2011

One of the other community sites I frequent (Skullbrain.org- Japanese & Kaiju toy community) has a Netflix thread where we comb through the massive amounts of crap NF has to offer and try to pull out the rare gems. Here's my list of must see stuff that's currently available for streaming: 1. Burden of Dreams. Docu on the filming of Werner Herzog's Fitzcarraldo. 2. I think we're alone now. Docu on two people who could be considered stalkers of teen icon Tiffany. 3. Plain Clothes. I watched this so many times as a kid that the tape broke. 80s "young looking cop returns to high school" film. 4. No Reservations. Any season. Viva Anthony Bourdain. 5. Cruising. Al Pacino goes undercover in NYC's Gay Leather underground to find a serial killer. 6. Dogtooth. Greek film. Very unsettling. Couldn't believe they nominated this for an oscar. What's on your list?

So I know the thread Cable Invasion was started around the rumors of a new tattoo TV show in New York and since it has kind of been announced that it is true I thought I would start a thread for discussion. Below is one of the few things in the press about this new show for those interested. I have heard things in other arenas from various people but don't want to be the one to bring it to the surface, however, if those who are on this tattoo forum want to share what they know have at it. There are/is some tattooers on this forum that will be on it and I think the tattoos that come from these individuals will continue to be impressive. From my understanding one of the big beefs with this show are the misconceptions around tattooing, tattooers, and tattoo shops that are portrayed to potential tattoo customers. Some of this has been discussed in the Good Tattoo Customer Behavior thread and elsewhere on our tattoo forum. One of my favorite quotes which if anyone knows anything about the previous tattoo shows on TLC and elsewhere comes from Tim Hendricks in that thread who has been on the show(s). It seems to have fallen through the cracks as no one commented on it so here it is again if you missed it, .With that have at it.... -Your thoughts? -Have you been tattooed on any of these tattoo shows? What was you experience? Note: this could get interesting as many don't know about the tattooers shown on the show and those behind the scenes..... -Have you tattooed on these shows? What was your experience? -Do you watch these tattoo TV shows? Favorite and/or least favorite parts? -and whatever else you feel like weighing in on -If you could do your own tattoo tv show/ docu-series how would you do it? Here is one of the few press articles out there on the new NY Ink show by the New York Post:

I was just reading Sboyer's response in the thread What tattoo designs can you never see enough of? and realized we have no Rock of Ages thread so here we go... I remember when I fell in love with this tattoo design while working at Juxtapoz and we had just printed the Jason Mcafee Rock of Ages poster and just being amazed. For some reason that poster really sticks out in my mind. I tried to locate a picture of it for here but can't find it so if you have one please post. While trying to find the image I did locate this video of Freddy Corbin at Temple Tattoo doing a Rock of Ages. It says it was done four years ago but guessing it has to be older as Scott Sylvia is shown in the background tattooing there as well??? It was posted by a user named xhooliganx and I know we have a user on our tattoo forum by that name as well so if it is the same, thanks. Since the video is labeled part one is there a second one that shows the tattoo or do you have a picutres? Part One Here are some other threads with Rock of Ages talk and/or pictures: Was tattooing as popular 100 years ago as now? What's your favorite tattoo on your body? Full Back Tattoo Designs Religious and Spiritual Tattoo Designs Fastest Tattooers New Tattoo Idea, Rock of Ages Lets hear and see them......

Steve posted a topic in WTF in the News

Tonight I was looking around the various pages/links we have under the LST Preferred Tattoo Professionals and enjoyed them all as I always try to visit these various pages to see what's going down around the world regularly. But the one I must share tonight is Luke Wessman's who is always doing awesome tattoos but also maybe because I am getting ready to head south for sometime and am dreaming of better days with money to get tattooed but stuck looking at pictures because if I had the paper I would be getting tattooed by him while down there! Below are two recent pictures he posted plus I found this little bit he wrote on Scott so it became even more relevant for the site. Any LSTers have any of his tattoos and pictures? Hope you enjoy not only the below but his site and tattoos as much as I often do....

I've seen this movie four times now, and Im still figuring stuff out. It seems like every time I watch it I get a new idea about how the movie is not only progressing, but figuring out wither he is constantly in a dream, or if there are parts of TRUE reality. My first round with this bastard I was a little drunk, so my ideas were nothing more than a Jameson induced delirium. My second round I noticed that the music plays a huge part in the movie. The tone, and song changes to fit wither he is doing his dream thing, or when he is (or believes) he is in reality. The last two times is when I came up with the idea that he had been dreaming the whole time since he was using his wife's Talisman. What does everyone else think? I just bought it, and am interested in hearing what other people thought.

So I know many of you watch this show and if not shame on you! Favorite characters? Episodes? Please share!

I thought I was the only one who felt this way... NOVEMBER 17--Like most Americans, Steven Cowan has been perplexed by Bristol Palin’s curious ability to keep advancing in TV’s "Dancing with the Stars" competition. However, unlike other viewers, Cowan, 67, allegedly became so enraged by Palin’s success that he actually fired a shotgun round into his television, triggering a 15-hour standoff with Wisconsin cops. According to a criminal complaint, Cowan’s wife called police Monday evening to report that her husband had blasted the TV and was threatening to kill himself. Cowan, who had been drinking, became angry while watching Palin, 20, perform on the ABC program. As Palin, pictured at left, was dancing, Cowan “jumped up and swore, saying something to the effect of, ‘The fucking politics.’ Steven was upset that a political figure’s daughter was dancing on this particular show when Steven did not think that she was a good dancer,” the complaint notes. Cowan is pictured in the above mug shot. Janice Cowan told Dane County Sheriff's Office deputies that she called 911 after her husband blasted the TV and then pointed the shotgun at her. She added that Cowan warned her that he would kill himself if she brought anyone back to their home in the town of Vermont. After a lengthy standoff with cops, Cowan surrendered yesterday at 11 AM. He is facing disorderly conduct and weapons charges. He was sitting in the Dane County jail last night when Palin landed a spot in the “Dancing with the Stars” finals. However, a sheriff’s spokesperson told TSG that Cowan “currently does not have access to television.” (3 pages)

Seinfeld- The Complete Series is so iconic, I cant imagine that many of you do not have a favorite episode. So let's hear it. What is your favorite Seinfeld episode or, if necessary (and totally understandable), episodes? One of my favorites is the jerk store episode. "The jerk store called and they're running out of you!" Another favorite is when Elaine sleeps on the couch at Jerry's parents house and hurts her back. She is all drugged up at the awards dinner and yells, Stella! Shit I just thought of 3 other "favorite" episodes...
