  1. I don't see myself ever working in a corporate environment again and I hope to hell that I never have to work in a McDonalds style environment again (having done my time in KFC and Subway I can say from experience that those jobs really do suck, both because of the bosses and the public) I really want to get my forearms done (not sleeved, but large, elbow to wrist tattoos on each arm). In fact I never really want to work with "customers" again, so bad has my experience of the general public been in my 10 years of working life to date. Having said all that, I'm not sure I am ready to take the step of ruling myself out of employment in these places should shit hit the fan and I really need a job.

This is the bit that took the most consideration for me. In my current job tattoos don't matter, and in all my "ideal" (even all my "tolerable") jobs, they either don't matter or can easily be covered due to not having uniforms/not being physical jobs. But I did consider "what if I end up completely out of options and have to try to get a job in a supermarket or fast food place?". My answer to this was that there are that many unskilled positions, that even if I did end up desperate, there are call centres, independent retailers, office jobs where long sleeves are permissible...

What I'm (ineloquently) trying to say, is that the worry about "what if" is just about unfounded, due to the options of cover up or go elsewhere. I don't know what the job market is like where you are, but here it's getting more and more tolerant: I've even seen McDonalds staff with throat tattoos :P

But eh, if you're uncertain you're uncertain. It's not like you'll run out of time to do it. It's worth looking at from all angles and getting some opinions. Personally, I was slightly apprehensive but am happy about the decision so far and will hopefully remain that way.

  2. The acupuncture was okay... I didn't ever get to see any of the needles. They don't come out until I'm face down... I guess.

I used to get acupuncture regularly (probably should start again, actually). Have some problems that prevent me using that face-hole in the massage bench, so I have to get it done lying on my back instead. Haven't lived til you've watched needles getting whacked into your own face :P

Actually now that I think of it, "medical professionals" (physio/sports med/acupuncturists etc.) have commented on my tattoos quite a few times. I guess there's a breaking down of barriers that occurs when you're seeing someone half-naked and discussing every detail of their health with them?

As a fat woman: fuck body hate, get tattooed.

To elaborate: being both fat and disabled, I've had issues with my body for a long time. The act of getting tattooed (facing a chronic pain and sensitivity problem) and the act of BEING visibly tattooed is, for me, extremely empowering. I'm not the typical "hot tattooed chick", and it is glorious. It's a way to take back this vessel I've been cursed/blessed with, and to feel more comfortable going through life in it.

    Plus, tattoos are awesome.

  4. Right, should've articulated better.

People know what they're signing up for. The proposed laws and recent actions of police aren't just a case of fucking around in the everyday lives of innocent people. These groups are not distantly associated with violent crime: they're in the thick of it. The sheer arrogance required to fire a weapon into a home or business, especially with some of the near-misses in NSW involving innocent people and children, shouldn't be tolerated. If someone doesn't want the cops on their ass, here's an idea: join one of the many bike clubs that don't have connections to criminal activity.

I would rather have "draconian" gun laws than elected representatives being shot in the head while speaking in public, kids being shot on the way home from the store for wearing hoodies and "looking suspicious", and the disgustingly casual use of the term "school shooting" which has arisen from an event that shouldn't even have happened ONCE, let alone the numerous times it has in the US. The stereotypical American notion of "freedom" is a joke to the rest of the world - not that all Americans believe in it the same way (and I really don't have any beef with the majority of Americans), but the ones who are most vocal sure do sound ridiculous.

  5. I've only heard of two "attacks" recently in/near Brisneyland - one shop somewhere on the Southside got smashed up by dudes with bats and a few staff got bruises, and the other near Paddo had one or two bullets fired into it late at night when no one was there. It's not really a huge deal (I mean, for the people involved it is, but in general not really).

There has been some other associated violence recently - I think a clubhouse in a suburb near me was shot up recently (again, in the wee hours of the morning when no one was around), and some dude got shot in a Gold Coast shopping centre, which is scary but still an isolated incident. Things are apparently the worst in Sydney right now, but I don't know much about that. I can say that here in QLD, your average person isn't phased by it all (I recall an interview with patrons of a cafe next to the clubhouse that got shot, the interviewer was trying to get concern out of them and the only response was basically "they only attack each other, we'll be right").

As far as I know (being someone not involved), it's common knowledge which shops are associated with these groups and which aren't. I tend to make it a habit to avoid the ones that are.

  6. yes but I don't think it's time zone specific- that would be a lot of wasted time on the backend for something so small. could an east coaster or european verify this by looking at the bottom of the main page and seeing what time they see listed for this? Or, better yet, I'm sure @steve1461686340 or @Lochlan could tell us if it's set to Pacific time zone or whether it's arbitrarily set at the time zone of VBulletin's server...

"Most users ever online was 520, 3 Weeks Ago at 07:32 PM." - So it does seem to be timezone specific. That's Aussie time, so I'm guessing it was when a bunch of Euros were on here during the day instead of working ;)

  7. Cheers @Amok it could work out... only issue will be if I can get something from someone tomorrow I'll have to go to work straight after and then be all gooey for the next 10 hours. I just know I'll hate myself if I miss this! Be sure to post up when you get the next one ;)

Maaaan, I'mma have to miss out on this too :(

    Funds just will not allow!

  8. Actually starting to feel the opposite way: I know I've only got one session left on my arm. It was started in September last year, and I'm putting off booking in that last session because I don't want it to be over. The monthly/two-monthly appointments have become a regular part of my routine and something I really look forward to. And I know once I'm done I'll have to go back to saving money, so no more tattoos for a while :(

  9. pretty effin upset right now...

got tattooed and more than half the lines are blown out. and not just a little. its bad.

i dont know what happened or what to do... suggestions. i am livid and dont even want to finish it.

I've had this happen once, not hugely blown out but most of the lines went a bit fuzzy. Since I had other work from that artist where the lines were perfect, I was happy to let them fix it up (they made those lines that were blown out a bit thicker, and the rest became unnoticeable when it got shaded). If it's someone you haven't got other work from/don't totally trust, you could look into getting someone else to fix it?

    (edit to add)

Another session tomorrow, it's been a while since I've posted in this thread and a fair bit of progress has been made on my arm, will try and get a few photos snapped tomorrow.

  10. Had a nice little fight with the GF this morning about my tattoo session tomorrow.

I cant wait to get tattooed tomorrow.

"Nor Hell a fury like a woman scorned..." :P

My partner is totally indifferent to tattoos. No interest in getting any, doesn't care what I get. He does occasionally marvel at how much money I'm willing to spend on them, but other than that it's a non-issue. 5+ years together, so I think we've got that one sorted.

We probably look a bit strange as a couple, though...

  11. I've realised lately that not only have I been left alone by those charity collectors, but I also haven't been yelled at from a passing car. Not even once, since becoming visibly tattooed. I used to get it semi-regularly (sometimes for my clothes, sometimes for my hair, sometimes compliments, sometimes insults).

The recent spate of bikie dummy-spits in the news probably helps :P

  12. Just learned how stupid-low minimum wage is over there.

Also heard that some places pay below minimum wage, with the expectation that staff will make the rest in tips. Also, tips are taxed. It's like they WANT people to turn to crime...
