Dr Benway got a reaction from Barbie Doll in Dumb Hipster Tattoos
The shoeless hipsters are just modern-day hippies to me. Noah and the Whale/Mumford & Sons style braces and sock allergy coolness that stinks of Trustafarian privelege.
I thought I liked Joy Division. Turns out I just pretended to so I could look cool. Phew, that will save me having to buy that really expensive box-set.

Dr Benway got a reaction from AlannaCA in Traveling for a shop?
Travelling to Frith St from North Wales seems like a very reasonable distance for something so important, and given that I have prime retail space saved for Juan Puente and Thomas Hooper, it hardly seems like much hassle at all. Getting work from those two guys is going to be a far bigger commitment. The only irritating part is that until a few years ago, my wife and I lived in south-east London and didn't make proper use of our locality! I worked a 10min walk from both The Family Business and Into You. Je ne regrette rien.

Dr Benway got a reaction from RockelMan in Tattoos and the workplace
I would say that it is only within the last year that I have finally found myself, at the age of 38, in a job that I feel is the career I want to pursue. I don't think it is a coincidence that my desire to get full sleeve work is in response to that. I feel like I am old enough, ugly enough, and focussed enough to know that tattoos which will be occasionally visible to colleagues and 'customers' will lead people to make judgements but ultimately will not hurt my career. Much.
Fascinating thread.

So far I've only travelled to London twice to get tattooed (the most recent trip was back and forth in less than 36 hours), but now my trip to SF is less than three months away and I'm so fucking stoked it's ridiculous. It will be expensive as hell, and all my money besides rent, bills and food has gone towards this trip, but I can't think of anything I'd like to do more. Exploring a new city in a foreign country, getting tattooed by incredible artists, meeting new people, thinking about your collegues working their asses of back home while drinking an ice cold beer in the sun... I for one can't think of a better way to spend my vacation, and I will most likely try to do something similar next year.

Here's mine tattooed by Xam at The Family Business, London.
If the month starts with a Sunday there will always be a Friday the 13th in that month.
Three Friday the 13ths in 2012. ;)

ChrisM - Many thanks. I too am a huge fan of the book and film, and Steiger is an inspired bit of casting.
Henrik - I'm currently living on Anglesey, looking across at Snowdon. Very beautiful.
Lochlan - Thank you for your welcome! I am living in deepest northern Wales, although I am actually a Londoner. I am getting work done by a not very well known female tattooer called Valerie Vargas at a little tattoo studio called Frith Street Tattoo. I am getting some tribal and a portrait of my dead dog (not really).
