Dammit! It's impossible not to be trendy, just got an outline on my solar plexus/bottom ribs. Guess I should've kept with my original idea, microscopic text in the shape of a robot behind my ear.

Hi there, been lurking a while and thought I would sign up! Name's John, I've been getting tattooed for about 16 years. I don't tattoo, but I like to respectfully consider myself a student of the art and the history of the biz.
Here's a couple of my more recent pieces-

Thanks for having me, this is a great site :)

I posted something about this in the intro forum, but I figure it's more appropriate here.
I first met Mike Wilson when I was a teenager. I think 16. He was a few years older and not yet tattooing. We became friendly, and as he moved from apprentice to tattooer and I moved from little pieces to big, he started doing the occasion piece on me.
My second tattoo from him was a back piece. Outlined and shaded in one bigass session.
But years later.... after I moved to Philly.. Mike did my foot.
He was guesting at Kadillac tattoo and dropped his business card in my mail slot when he got into town. (Not much of a texter back then, apparently. hah)
So I head up to Kadillac and we decide to do a Free Mason monkey with banana pentagram on my foot. He draws it on, Eric closes up the shop and heads home.
He's about 3/4 of the way done when he realizes theres no more nitrile gloves left in his box. Or in the shop.
It's after midnight, and there's no drug stores open to buy new gloves.
And I'm very allergic to latex. Like hospital allergic.
So we're racing the clock to finish the tattoo without having to change gloves one last time. We discuss finishing it the next time he visits. We discuss what would happen if he wore a latex glove.
Finally... when changing gloves became an absolute necessity...
We wrapped the fuck out of his hand with paper towels and prayed to god I hadn't made any bad lifestyle choices in the last few months.
15 years of friendship made us a little more comfortable with the bad idea that we were doing.

That seems like a really weird placement for a tattoo, but Scott says that long lines of text in odd places is a current fad in the world of tattoo designs for women.

I got to know my husband partially through dinners with mutual friends, and also from being tattooed by him. I had to flirt with him really, really hard to get him to ask me out, he just thought I wanted a discount on my tattoos. Six years later, I still can't get an appointment.

    here's my story..
i had a tattooer that was going with this girl and he asked me if i would finish her apprenticeship. i met her and said sure, 2 months later i got a hold of her on myspace (remember that place?) to see if she was serious because i hadn't talked to her in months.. she said she wanted to do it but thought i wasn't going to because the she wasn't dating that guy anymore. i told her i didn't care and "do you want the dang thing or not", so she says yes and we met the next day and spent the whole time talking. just talking about backgrounds and all.. well we were talking about where we had come to vegas from and found it was the same area, total population of 100,000+. but it got weird, she used to work at this jiffy lube in a strip mall.. i had a shop in this strip mall and would watch this long black haired girl walk by everyday to go to the quicky mart. come to find out it was her!! we talked more and hung out almost everyday, while learning her some tattooing for the next 4 months. we went to primer nationals and the night we got home and went to the local bar, had a few drinky poos and then we decided that we're gonna get together. 4 years later, married 3 and a 2 year old beautiful daughter and my 2 step daughters..

I just wish , instead of saying " I just don't want my kids to think tattoos are cool" he had said " I just want my kids to see that I made a mistake earlier in my life, which I now regret and i'm willing to go through the pain and expense to eradicate it"

when i moved to california, i stayed with my brother in SF for a month before moving to san jose. tiger army was playing at the fillmore and i wanted to see them. i found some dude at the venue that sold me a ticket face value. they were the opening act for a band i didnt know. after they played i stuck around. that band was AFI. they came out and the place went nuts! then they started their first song. my initial reaction...."DAMN THAT LITTLE GIRL CAN FUCKING SIIIIIING!!!!!!!!!!" Then i realized there were no boobs under that mesh shirt. whoops thats a guy.
anyway, i was incredibly impressed with their playing and davey's singing. they had that entire crowd in the palms of their hands. it was awesome.
been a fan ever since. i do think its funny that alot of people hate on them for changing up their style though. theyve been playing music a long ass time. i wouldnt wanna be tattooing the same dagger over and over. i understand the change up. and appreicate both "versions" of the band.
so cheers to davey! wish i could catch the show.

I have done this many many times, Between VH1, VH2, Fair Warning, 1984, Diver Down, and Women and Children First that's enough to fill a whole day with awesome. (Not to mention the WB demos if you want to get REALLY crazy) I can never get sick of VH ever. I could be at a fucking funeral and if "Unchained" came on I'd be like "Ok! Guess we're partying!"
Greatest Rock and Roll band of all time.
(and Yes I have a Van Halen tattoo)

222 Tattoo was a fabulous shop owned by the world renowned Eddy Deutsche. When Eddy decided to close the shop in 2000, it was a great loss to the tattoo community. An astounding amount of great work came out of that shop in a few short years. If you have stories and pictures of work to share from any of those great artists, please do!
And yes, Eddy's still tattooing, and you can find out more about him and contact him through his website if you'd like-
