@CultExciter - finally downloaded the Drug Church lp this weekend. It's awesome. I like it way more than Paul Walker. -

The Action Bronson record has killer moments, but falls flat as a whole album for me. I need to check out Turnover and the new Torche and Deafheaven records that people mentioned. A friend of mine has been raaaaaving about Turnover, and I always like Torche but never fully invest. They blew me away live in a house a few years back. The previous Deafheaven record took me by surprise, so who knows?
In some particular order:
Touche Amore and Self Defense Family (collab record) - Self Love
Blacklisted - When People Grow, People Go
The Wonder Years - No Closer to Heaven
Desaparecidos - Payola
Beach Slang - The Things We Do to Find People Who Feel Like Us
Pet Symmetry - Pets Hounds
Dr. Dre - Compton
mewithoutYou - Pale Horses
Kyle Kinane - I Liked His Old Stuff Better

I finally got a smart phone, so naturally I downloaded Instagram ASAP. I'm puttablock on there, in case some weirdo by that name starts following you.

It happens. No tattoo is perfect. It's a handmade craft. Gives it character, etc. Chances are it won't bother you so much as time goes by. But at least let it heal. Fixing it could make it worse. Up to you if you want to take that chance. But I'd do what your artist recommends if you trust him/her. The reason why "get more tattoos" is the best answer is because you'll drive yourself crazy nitpicking over every last detail so you may as well put that energy into planning the next one.

(Pardon my overly enthusiastic post but I've just recently started getting tattooed, and I've never been tattooed at a convention - this is all pretty new to me so I'm gushing a bit!)
Not great pics, and no good clear ones of the tat yet, but am SO STOKED (and still a bit wonky) from my epic day yesterday with Darcy Nutt at the Richmond VA Tattoo Arts Convention. We emailed about ideas beforehand, but she decided not to draw anything up, wanting to meet me first and collaborate on something after we spoke in person. She had no other appointments, so my simple Japanese koi idea turned into my own freshwater angel fish from pics off my phone, and my beloved peonies.
She freehanded it onto my arm, and including that part of it and one potty break, it was 6 hours in the chair. That is why I look a bit cross-eyed strung out by the last pic! I ate an omelet at 9 am and hubby tried to get me to eat along the way, but I could not do it - endorphins from pain suppress the appetite, I guess. I tried to stay hydrated, though, and found my happy place. It is all about breathing. I knew I'd be leaving with something wonderful that I'd enjoy forever, and it would be worth it.
She won Tattoo of the Day (I guess I won too, but I didn't do anything but sit there), and that was pretty sweet! She finished at 9:25, the contest was at 9:30, and the pic was taken at about 10, at which point I didn't know my own name, lol. That is definitely a long session, I don't care who you are, but I had an opportunity that was not to be passed up, and Darcy is a genius.
When I went up to the judges, they looked at each other, shaking their heads and grinning as they all exclaimed, "Fuckin' Darcy..." cuz they KNEW this tattoo was going to win, lol. Anybody who has the chance to get some work done by this sweet, wonderful, brilliant lady you should definitely do it. She made this design up on the fly, without ever having done this type of fish before. I'll post pics when I get the ones done by the photographer at the show, or the ones she'll post on her IG, showing the fish better towards the back of my arm.

Good for you for working it all out. To be quite honest, and I mean this in the nicest possible way, it looks like you're just starting to figure out some of the basics of drawing for tattoos. I'd spend some time tracing stuff. Seriously. That SJ rose you see on the wall. Trace it 100 times. That way you know it by heart. Repeat. On whatever subject matter you like. Nothing too big. Just things to get your understanding down.
I would hesitate to do any of those as tattoos just yet. That whole crawl before you can walk thing. I started in the same place, and not too long ago at that. While I have a fine art background, learning to draw a panther, or oni, or rose, or swallow, or dragon, or whatever...it takes a lot of practice to do so correctly. I'm still figuring it all out...much like the rest of us.

I'm probably biased because he's a friend, but man, damn Dave Regan has been making stuff lately that makes me sit back and smile and then kicks me in the rear very hard because I feel so untalented.
Also, Gordon Combs. So good.
Showstoppers for sure.

CultExciter reacted to justintiv in just saying hi
I heard this site existed awhile back, but thought I'd actually check it out. A friend and I were talking about how we miss the read street forum, so thought this would be cool. I tattoo at a shop in Lincoln, Nebraska called Iron Brush. Been here about a year. Tattooed for almost 19 years prior to that in Kansas City at various shops (Freaks on Broadway, and Exile most recently). Anyways, been building machines for just over a year. Always tinkered with mine and coworkers to make them run like I wanted them to, but just decided I really, really wanted to learn all I could about the craft. I've sold several machines so far in Kansas City, and all over Oregon when I was there couple months ago. Anyways, I won't bore ya to death with anything else for now ha.

The depreciation in value sucks for the first 25 years, but then you get exposure on the Vintage Tattoos instagram.
