Late to this thread and no experience with cosmetic tattooing - but definite experience with Nola ink possibilities. I recommend you go and talk with the guys at Eye Candy. The best artists in the area and they won't take the job just to take the job.

agreed with @BrianH regarding Senor Ortega. If you're wanting a more realistic approach then go with Nate Beavers in Houston.

I don't know anyone around here who specializes in the "painterly" style, per se - generally any realism specialist can reproduce.

Liz Cook in Dallas might be another to look into.

Going to drop by the shop next Monday to consult and set an appointment. I am stoked. This is my "end of spring semester" tattoo. That's a good reason I figure. Good thing I am already enrolled for summer and fall courses.:cool:

I bought a 1980 Kawasaki KZ1000 shaft to build into a bobber/cafe for fun.

I actually rode a non-shaft '78 version of one of these all over the U.S. East Coast back in the day.

I've always viewed the craft (and deserved secrecy surrounding it) as all that's involved with the technical application of the ink, and the creative aspect as the actual artwork involved.

I'm just curious what the craft side of tattooing is, but there seems to be a lot of secrecy around that subject.

might not be all secrecy at all. try describing the process of creativity in relation to any craft. :p

too bad any tattooist's bedside manner can't be accessible as their portfolio.

bottom line is that any new encounter with them is just like meeting any other stranger on the street - except that by the time we get in front of them we all have the best expectations.
