  1. Just booked with R.H. Wells at the Montreal convention in September.
  2. That's a drag, @polliwog. I suspect you are correct - its better to give as much notice as possible. Hopefully you can get re-booked soon!
  3. I thought about getting another one from Nick this year, but I'm really up in the air about what to do.
  4. @misterJ I'll post pics, but a little later when its more complete. I may even wait until its finished. I'll tag you when I post something though! Hopefully I'll get it done this summer, but with a light teaching load this semester my tattooing budget is drying up. :( Also, I don't want to risk posting anything else on this page after seeing @ThatGuy 's piece from Valerie. That one deserves a page all its own. (I say that half in jest, because everytime I think I've seen the best f'ing tattoo ever, another one appears within a week - a tribute to the artists and clients who fill these pages.

  6. I've been wondering about this too. I figure it's bound to happen one day.
  7. Just sat through the first outlining session on my back piece. Going to be a long, hot, humid summer here.
  8. I recall seeing The Clash in 1982. That was cool. A Reggae band called Messenjah opened for them. I was sitting behind a row of rastas in Maple Leaf Gardens. By the end of the show I was incredibly hungry and slightly spaced out. Insert Geo. Carlin sketch here.
  9. How frustrating. I had something similar happen in April. Missed starting my back. Good luck and feel better!
  10. Thanks! I'm not sure where I came across that style of tattoo first, though Rich Hadley does some of the best I've seen like that. I think its been around for a while. I described what I was looking for and we poked around for a bit, and the tattooer who did it came up with the actual design. I can barely draw a stick figure.
  11. @El Dolmago and I went to The Pearl today and each got ladyhead tattoos from Glennie. Mine is the cowgirl, and hers is the profile with butterfly wings. You can still see the blood oozing out! Fresh.
  12. Last year my wife and I stayed with friends in the city. I suspect we will do the same this year. Hotels cut too deeply into my tattoo budget! ;)
  13. @idyllsend Ha! You are correct! I saw this the other day, but sadly he is coming the day after I start my back piece. I'll have to see him some other time. :(
  14. That is some rare lamb! Looks amazing.

Reading DMZ Vol.1 right now. Awfully good!
  16. For those who are interested in this sort of thing, the problem with cultural appropriation is not simply borrowing from another culture. The problem comes from an imbalance of power in that relationship. When a dominant group starts appropriating the sacred traditions, symbols, icons, and cultural artefacts of a subject culture, then it is not uncommon for those in the subordinate group to be offended by that use of their heritage. Some will care more than others, and some will care not at all. That said, I think the issue of power relationships between groups has been missing from this discussion. The use of other groups symbols may cause insult or offense, regardless of intentions. Some don't care, others care a great deal, and likely many have never even thought about it. Do whatever you like, and get whatever tattoos you want. I have no horse in this race, and I don't care what anyone gets tattooed or who tattoos them. I have a sugar skull that many would consider appropriative. I'm simply trying to highlight the root of the debate about cultural appropriation.
