I feel that almost all tattooers draw like this, but most of them actually finish their drawings before putting them on clients.

Check out Mike Moses in Columbus, OH. He's very illustrative, but not exactly like the above style. There are plenty of sketchy tattooers in the US however, they usually do full sleeves for a pack of smokes and dimebag.

A bit amusing...I'm reading my lengthy post above from 18 months ago...now I've got tattoos creeping the cuff and onto the hands. Things change, tattooing is fluid!

I love a good back piece or a solid sleeve, but my obsession is hand tattoos. Here are a few of my favorites from the collection I have saved on my computer.

    Seth Wood

    Ron Wells

    Annie Frenzel

I'd love to see some other favorites, or hand tattoos that LST members have!

Thou shalt not argue that thou's drawing on a piece of paper makes for a better tattoo than a (LST recommended) tattoo artist's rendition of the tattoo, especially when thou hath no tattoos.

Re changes in attitude. I'm way more inclined now to want to stick with a tattooer who I have a good rapport with than to worry about who I won't get to see.

Neat thread to revisit. I haven't really changed my attitude since I first posted on here, though I have a lot more coverage than when I first posted. I'm about 45% covered now so I still have plenty of space, but it's enough that running out of space seems like a distinct possibility especially because I've only been getting tattooed for about five years. I have a young child now so that has forced me to slow down and it may somewhat limit the possibility for traveling for tattoos. I'm also much pickier than I was: when I was first getting tattooed I was overwhelmed by how many people there are making great tattoos and I wanted to get something from all of them. I'm looking for something else now, and the experience of getting the tattoo, of getting tattooed by the right people is almost more important than the tattoo itself. Consequently, my list of "musts" is much shorter than it was.
A couple of years of experience has also made getting tattooed into almost a duty. I'm committed to heavy coverage which is going to mean that the spots that are going to totally suck need to be tattooed so I kind of just want to get them over with so I don't have to dread them as much as I do.

If a tattoo needs to be "touched-up" every 5 years it is probably not a good tattoo.

    hey there @thesinki93
i'd agree with the above comments, leave it as-is (for now).
Focus on getting your chest coloured in and starting your sleeve.
Your tattooer could likely tile the background from the top part of the arm sleeve in behind the chest piece to connect. I have a big bird across my chest. Roses filling out the pecs tiled underneath, and the sky/clouds from the tops of my sleeves extended into the sides of the chest to connect everything.

    welcome to LST!
if you like the original artist's work on your bowie and what he's done with your feather so far, i'd seek him out. easy as that. as you mentioned, the shop already suggested that as an option and they should completely understand.
as far as loyalty goes.. the owner originally sketched the feather, but did the tattooer use that exact sketch or did he do his own thing? i feel like that's the only value added step in the process you've mentioned. even still, the owner passed you to the other tattooer, so loyalty doesn't seem to be an issue from that standpoint.
what's up with some pictures?! :)

My advice is to leave it as it is. The risk in adding things to the sides to make it fuller is that you will compromise the design and make the tattoo weaker as a result. As it is, it's a nice triangular shape that fits well, and I'm not sure the rectangular area you want flows nearly as well. It's your body, your tattoo, and your choice, but that's my two cents.

I actually have something of a meaning for the tattoos on my arms, though for some I assigned that meaning later to a tattoo I got because I thought it would be cool.
I don't find questions annoying, I like seeing what people will say back. For tattoos that have actual meaning, my favorite is "It's a funeral urn. It reminds me I'm going to die."
And there's always, "It's a panther and a giant sword. I got it because it's awesome."

Kent - you've come to the end of the line brotha - you need to get to a shop and start to talking to an artist - we can recomend someone if we know where you living at - short of that - you wont get much else in the way of help - at least thats my prediction

What about something uber traditional like a ship on the sea, or an anchor, if you identify personally with the sea? What sorts of images do you identify with?
As far as script - you must go to someone who can do lettering/script well, and you must let them draw the script. Do not go in saying that you want x statement with "this font". It isn't a font, it is script (or lettering) wherein it is drawn/tattooed by hand and not a machine. It is meant to flow a certain way. There are threads here that discuss lettering and script tattoos, you might want to do a search and dig around.

Tattoos aren't a reminder to the self, they are a statement to the world. Let that guide your decision.

no, it is not a good tattoo idea.
if your OCD doesn't affect your tattoos at all...then why do you need a tattoo to remind yourself not to do something?
a tattoo with strong imagery can give you confidence and will be a reminder everytime you look at it not to doubt yourself or whatever. tattoo doesn't need to be so literal and obvious.
