Thanks! I'm going to be almost 40 when I go back! That seems so crazy, to be a...what..44 year old new teacher? I'm assuming it's a 4 year degree. Oof da. I read in Dear Abby years ago, a woman wanted to go back to school to be a Dr. and was upset that by the time she'd be done w/her 8 years of school , she'd be 50 (or whatever), and the reply was "Wouldn't you be 50 anyway?" I'm trying to keep that in mind, haha!

That sounds like a solid craft beer drunken night. Last night I drank just Stone Arrogant Bastard/Oaked among other stone beers. It was going fine until the Sake came out. Throwing up Hot Pot in your friends bathroom is not pretty. Just an FYI.

Have an appointment today at the Museum to have pics taken of my Stewart Robson back-piece. Not exactly sure how it works regarding which pieces get displayed. I am honored to have such a beautiful piece from Mr. Robson and the chance to display it.

Me - hi there, what can we do for you?
Customer - look at this shit tattoo *shows some wobbly writing on her wrist obviously scratched on* isn't it rubbish? Look how crap it is.
    Me - we'll, it's pretty bad, yeah.
Customer - that was done by **** at ****'s tattoos. It's rubbish, I hate it.
Me - ok. Well, I can promise you we're a bit better than that, at least.
Customer - so how much would it cost to get just a little name on my other wrist?
Me - if it's just small it'd probably be our minimum charge, which is £25.
Customer - £25? Fuck off. **** at ****'s tattoos (same place she'd just been complaining about) will do it for a fiver. I'll go there.
    Me - .....
You get the tattoo you deserve.

TattooedMumma reacted to Shaun1105 in Do we really need apprentices?
This brings to mind a question for tattooers: If an aspiring apprentice has said $15k, would they be better off
    A. Following the above advice and finding someone who will apprentice them for cash. Or,
    B. Using $3000 to get a bunch of tattoos from great artists and using the balance to get 'unbusy', then work on drawing and painting all day everyday?
I'm interested just because we're on the topic, not at all for myself as I have no interest in being a tattooer. I would choose option C - use all $15,000 to get awesome tattoos!
I also think it would be likely that the shops most willing to take cash for apprentices are the ones prospective apprentices should be most wary of (with exceptions I'm sure).

You are referring to a Kappa, a popular image in traditional Japanese tattoo. If you search for Kappa tattoo you will find lots reference.

I really love how this thread took off! thanks again to all who posted pics!
I will try and find a link to the video, but there is a show we watch called river monsters. Jeremy Wade looks into legends of river monsters then traces back what would have sparked them. In one episode he travels to Japan and discovers a legend about there river monster responsible for riverside disappearances of children. There are signs around the rivers warning people to stay away from the river for fear of being dragged off by this creature. There have been people report their children missing and believe this is the beast responsible. Anyway he traces it back to the giant salamander as they would be capable of swallowing a small child whole and grow up to something like 6ft. anyway what I was getting at was- it would be awesome to see as a tattoo! with the traditional imagery of course- not the giant salamander ;) . again- I will track down the link of that episode !

thanks for this thread, there is some great stuff here. I have way too many moles on my back to be able to have a large piece there so my thighs are the largest swath of real estate I have for a large tattoo. I've been kicking around some ideas but nothing has really gelled into full on inspiration yet.

This exists somewhere else on here but I'm stoked on this thread! Here's my left thigh from last year from Nash Hogan, great dude. I'll be doing something bigger on the other one soon! Soonish. When I can. So.. at some point.

I've also had a couple other things added around it on the knee and inside of the thigh but don't have a picture. Probably for the best, nobody needs to see all up in my business.

OK so I decided to go with birds
2 cardinals and a blue jay and my artist suggested some roses to add which will be nice too :D
I also finally booked my appt with Aaron Colemon for March 19th!! The horse of fire will be awesome I am sure. He said it will be about 2 1/2 to 3 hrs. It will be bigger than my cobra tattoo as well

I don't know, there are so many images that could represent love or family--and you would know that it represented your adoptive parents and the love and respect you have for them without being limited by that flat design. A cluster of roses, for example, one for each of you... or, well, the possibilities are endless.

Be wary of pictures like that. It looks great like that, but how is it going to look healed? How will it look 20 years from now? I think if I was in that guy's position that I'd rather get laser and have far more options.
But seriously, talk to an artist and get a professional opinion because all we can do here is speculate on what will work.

It doesn't wrap all the way around. And there is a lot of negative space. I figured I could get a black band that wraps around where the bottom tree line is and somehow could incorporate a mandala or geometrical type design to cover the rest. This guy does amazing stuff.

Booking my dad in for a neck tattoo with Freddy Negrete in San Angelo, hopefully. All of his Charlie Cartwright work is from about 30 years ago, so it'll be a good continuation of that.
He also doesn't know that we're getting him booked yet, although I think he suspects I'm up to something.

@TaeTae, I find back of the thighs OK. The ass is way more painful. It´s actually awful! hehe..
Wow, that was a big question! My legs will not be in the same style as my back piece with traditional windbar background. My plan is to collect small and large one-shots on the rest of the body regardless of the style, and finally sew it all together with a kind of background. Maybe a flame background. I should also laser remove an entire sleeve and two other tattoos. A big project, but necessary. In October I travel to NYC / SF (with @Ninab and @Iwar) to get tattooed by Hoyer / O'Donnell / Lehi and hopefully Corbin. On the wish list for the future: Rassier, Leu, Mick, Roper, Sylvia Trevino, Ichibay, Bruno, Grime, Arriola, Deutsche, Whitehead and many more ..
