TattooedMumma reacted to heathenist in Thighs Thighs Thighs!!!
My first tattoo was a big thigh piece, and I just got my other thigh done this weekend. Experienced twitching both times. However, the first time was much more painful than this past one. The outline wasn't fun but the shading was a breeze.
Here they are, the first one isn't in a style I'm super into anymore, and I'm not too crazy about it anymore, it's not bad it just doesn't fit with what I'm going for anymore. Maybe one day I'll have it covered or reworked or something. I don't regret getting it, because it helped get me into tattoos, and really it's not a bad tattoo, just not what I would get now.

Here is my latest one, which I've already posted in 2 other threads in the past couple of days, but whatever, done by Phil Hatchet Yau:

Always grateful for an opportunity to show my Stell baku. For the OP, it took about 5 hours, pain wasn't too bad. I'd much rather do another thigh tattoo than another session on my back.

Another by Jess Yen! Still needs one more small session(finishing toad detail), but we are mostly there! Done at the London Tattoo Convention over a couple of sessions.

Bald guy...sounds like Ami James, he was on Miami Ink and NY Ink. I have fond memories of Miami Ink because I watched it a lot when I was younger and more impressionable, I caught an episode recently and was like "Shit, I thought these were good?" Chris Garver usually did good stuff on Miami Ink though, and I think Tim Hendricks made appearances on both shows, that was cool. And the other one you're talking about is Inked, or something like that. I hated that one too. I don't really remember much about it, other than this one guy had bird tattoos all over him, and the tattooer made a comment to him about getting some hunters shooting at the birds and the guy was really offended because he liked to bird watch. Tons of examples of bad customer service on that show...

Which show? I like to "hate watch" LA Ink, which is just about the lowest of the low in terms of tattoo shows (the only saving graces were Corey Miller and Dan Smith making appearances). I just watched the episode where Kat rips out all of the seating for clients to build a giant skate ramp that goes right in front of the door, and she was so excited about it because no other shop in the world would have it. There's probably a reason for that. Sigh.

@Kev I got my knee done because I know what I want on them and want to fit stuff around them rather than leaving them and being influenced by what fits at the time.
I feel a bit differently about elbows, they're just a bit of a shit spot for anything I think - that skin's all shit and wrinkly anyway, at least with a knee there's some proper flat-ish surface area.

TattooedMumma reacted to Texkota in Advice for Getting Tattoos on Your Feet
So if you are thinking about getting tattoos on your feet, he's some friendly advice:
    1) Most important, only do one foot at a time. Your foot is going to swell and hurt like hell for a couple of days, you want at least one good foot to hobble around on.
    2) Starting the day before hydrate as much as you can, drink tons of water and cut out the salt, continue this for a couple of days after your tattoo. Good hydration reduces swelling and swelling seems to be the biggest issue with the foot.
    3) Make sure you have a minimum of two days off after your tattoo. You do not want to wear shoes until the swelling goes down.
    4) When you get home elevate your foot, lie down on the couch, turn on the TV and get your foot as high up as you can. Once again helps prevent/lessen swelling.
    5) Fill a ziplock bag with ice and keep it on your foot for as long as you can stand it, continue this every few hours for the first two days. Yup, you guessed it....swelling.
    6) Motrin is your friend eases the pain and reduces swelling.
If you haven't figured it out, swelling with feet tattoos is a bitch!!!
Hopefully this advice will help you out.
Now, if you get a dime sized star tattoo, you can probably disregard everything I said.

I can totally see that. My college has a koi pond and everytime I walk by I always love to stare at them. I will admit to making them fight over a chocolate chip cookie once, not my proudest moment.
    Koi are very beautiful.

Thanks! I actually have three koi from Henning, the two on my thigh and one on my left arm. I'm a big fan of his koi and they bring back fond memories of when my late grandmother used to buy goldfish for my brother and I when we were kids. Now I know goldfish are more kingyo than koi, but they fit the same style for me.

Here you go, on my left thigh, koi, water and cherry blossoms done in Japanese style by Henning Jorgensen. Not completed yet and also now connected to my back piece project. Will eventually get a piece on my right thigh to balance things out. Maybe a tiger or dragon or both.

Lol I was talking about that the other day in conversation with a few people. I was like "Why the hell do people get their last names tattooed on themselves?" Then someone in the group said they had their lastname on their back. Whoops!

I love it when people get their own names on themselves. I have much a similar reaction to these as to when I see a civic rolling down the street with a giant "HONDA" on the windshield.
There is a certain level of retarded narcissism involved.

Some of my earlier tattoos are rather simplistic and/or lack creativity. They don't follow the trends named in this thread and I actually still think they look kind of cool--but I also didn't know what was possible back then. I didn't do a ton of research, there was no internet when I got my first one 22 years ago...so I just thought I had to bring in what I wanted and get it. I know better now. I think most people just don't know better. They need LST. Or LSD. Maybe both.

Society lacks the esoteric connections with totems. Its out of a nacissitic desire to feel like they are some how expressing real thoughts or ideas by putting it on their body. Seldom have I done lettering of large quantity on someone who was say..a person who was really into books and felt a connection to the dialog of a novel or the linguistic appeal of ones writing style. Its usually just a clever quote they saw on social media or a song lyric that they want to mean something but have never even purchased an album by the person/band. Looking for logic in mainstream culture is an exercise in futility. It is however easier to recognize those who know what's cool and those who are just riding the current trend.
