  1. Came home last night after burgers and beers, poured a glass of whiskey and turned on the TV. Flipped around and saw the show, caught it about 5 minutes after it started, watched the thing and laughed my ass off. Pretty funny stuff and yeah, it's a TV show, so it's gonna be.. just like a TV show. The best part was the names. HEATHER SIN, B-TATS, AL FLICTION.. Al Fliction is barely clever.. by like the narrowest of margins.. AL FLICTION!!

who the fuck are those people anyways? did you see how terrible more than half of them are? its like they casted the show cause 15 went to try out and they took the best looking 10. this show is bullshit!

  2. i think a lot of this is funny... listening to people slam the tv show but not the people on it cause they are said friends with participants of the show. pick a side and stick to it. if you dont like the show then admitt said friends f*cked up and crossed the line by being on the show. you have to be willing to admit that or not talk at all about it. the shows are here to stay apparently so who cares. tv is shit anyhow, what makes anyone think this would be any different? honestly good for anyone who takes the corporate money from going on those shows. at least they deserve it. except navarro he should be ground down to small pieces

    slam away

  3. I take the wrap off once I get home. Wash the tattoo with hot water and soap until it stops weeping and then I wash it twice a day after that. I don't put anything on it at all. My tattoos all look as bright and colourful as the day I got them. Although my oldest is only just under 4 years old

i do something similar for my tattoos. i take the bandage of immediately when i get in and do a really hot water soak for 5-10 minutes then wash with cold water. then nothing for two days then hand lotion for the following week. i never have a problem. ok maybe its not that similar

  4. i dont have any photos but ive seen some stuff close to that old that looked both terrible and great. at this point its still a 50 50 chance. i would def like to see some conclusive evidence in either direction. ive always thought that no matter the tattoo when you get old your old and your work will show its age in one way or form. i used to work for bruce kaplan and i saw some single neddle work that was 15-20 years old that was holding up pretty fair considering lining and shading were done with said single needle

  5. Here's my observation:

First: It's T.V. so surely it will be edited and somewhat scripted so that it will be appealing to many types of viewers.

Second: There will be valued members of the tattoo community as well as a few not so well known tattooers on the show.

Third: If you are looking for something to get out of the show other than what it is designed to be, I'm sure you will be disappointed.

So, if you decide to watch the show, great. If not, so be it. Nothing wrong with it either way. The simple fact that there are many tattoo related shows on T.V. now and then has the tattoo community and the general public frequently discussing the pro's and con's of both sides of this issue. So my take on this is as long as there is and interest, there will be shows and big business making money with advertising and such. So what. The B side is that it also generates exposure to our industry (good and bad) which generates more clients which in turn equals more money for us as tattooers. The traditions of our industry are being changed but not lost. If you stay true to your own personal beliefs and practices regarding our industry then you are doing your part to keep the values alive. Never let someone else change who you are. Be the best YOU can be and continue to grow everyday and better your craft and ability to provide a quality produst and good service and you yourself will succeed in what ever you do.

So in closing I believe there are valid points to both sides of the commercialized tattooing epidemic. I simply say use it to your advantage and move forward. No one is holding a gun to your head and saying watch the show or conform to the present depiction of our industry on T.V. I plan to start everyday the same. I wake up spend some time with my wife and kids and then head into the shop to paint, draw and do my best to improve my skills as a tattooer and learn a little more everyday. I can live with that.

So no matter which side you may be on, remember one thing, you have to give respect to get it.

    Jay

i said something that relates to this in another post. so i def agree with you. i do think the shows are a bit on the stupid side but we gotta make the best of this. i plan to.

  6. the talent pool is ever expanding and if we dont reach out to expand the client pool we will all drown. tv exposure, be it nonsense or not, was the inevitable. with a growing industry we need the clients. dont worry about how tv molds their expectations, get the people in the door and educate them. make them believe in you and your shop.

i remember watching the sailor jerry documentary and it touching down on his distaste for lyle tuttle. he didnt like how tuttle was putting himself out there on main street but the truth of the matter is that if guys didnt do that then the business would of never grown and most of us probably wouldnt be tattooers.

just be thankful that in an economy that has finally effected our industry, that were all still here and doing what we love. tattoos are a luxury at this point so you kinda gotta put yourself out that as the guys/girls that will provide you with the best this luxury has to offer.

of course its always nice to hold onto our roots and be true to the ways of old... we certainly stand on the shoulders of giants but if you dont recognize the path ahead, your path will end
