  1. Hey Stacey. Great intro.

I'm from Brisbane, Australia. I too work Health Care, but as an industry trainer which includes restraint & seclusion in Acute Mental Health Units for 4 large Metro Hospitals here.

    Hope ya staying safe!

    Mick.

  2. Your right. There's no magic formula. Getting extensive work never gets easier, you just learn what to expect.

It's definitely a mindset though. If you can't get your head in the right place, enduring a monster session is impossible. This, plus being well fed & hydrated is a must.

Steer clear from the pain killers. Learn to manage the pain, don't let it manage you.

Looking forward to seeing your work. Progress pics are always great! ;)

  3. Thanks! I am getting a little bit of backlash from people I know for it though. They're just really concerned that I'll regret it because I can't give them a meaning behind the concept beyond thinking that it'd be cool.

You seem to know what it's about. See, people who don't understand & including some who do get tattooed feel they must justify the meaning behind every tattoo with some deep & meaningful story of inner wisdom...bullshit.

It can be as simple as you said, cause it's just fuckin' cool.

I like skulls, dragons, lightning bolts & all kinds of shit...so I get them tattooed. Over all it represents something more personal and to the point which I don't need to explain to anyone.

You have the calling. Answer it. You know what it means to you & that's all that counts. Don't let them make you question what you already know the answer to.

Good luck with your journey to collecting kick arse tattoos.

  4. There's something magical about the full back tattoo.

As young as 12, I was always awe inspired by seeing pictures, especially group photos of people posing for the photographs. I just knew that some day, I too needed to have that full back tattoo.

Today, that's the tattoo out of all my collection that has the most significance.

As people have already mentioned, it's no easy task. I think those big long sweeping lines that pick up all those different nerve endings was the most memorable experience for me.

Don't concern yourself too much with the time you spend under the machine.

I too use to look at long sittings as a significant feat, but these days I come to realise that time spent, is still time spent under the machine, whether you sit for 10,5,2 or 1 hours...every hour is still earned. There's no shortcuts. That tattoo has been earned through determination, a particular mind set and pain.

  5. Cheers Josh. Appreciate the comments mate, thank you.

Yeah man, live in Brisbane..and I ride a HD.

When we ride now, and the fellas I ride and camp out with take off for a run, part of the pre run conversation is....what we tell the pigs if we get intercepted. We hit runs northern NSW and shit, so pretty good once ya cross the border.

Been hassled a little bit, but if ya play it cool and know ya rights ya pretty set.

Not so easy for anyone who's been named in the "26" that are just motorcycle enthusiasts.

All this with luck should get over turned at the high court.

    Where are you mate?

Hours under the machine...I really don't know mate. Arms all re sleeved, decided to punch in real heavy with a solid black background mainly for that very reason of re working the arms. I'd take a rough punt and say 300 plus, from the waist to the ankles is as heavy as the torso.

Sorry for straying off topic here to the thread starter. As stated, best of luck with it. Suit it up!

  6. Haha! takes me back to when I got my first. All of 17 and was living with my GF at the time. Told my mum over the phone. She said never show her, ever!

2 hours later she's dropping over "kitchen stuff", so I was wearing a shirt. Just before she left she said "fuck it!, show me" so I did. She cried, I laughed.

It's funny ya know, I'm now 45, still dropping in ink and suited up. My mum now lives with me & my family...and she still hates them, still says "don't you think enough is enough"? I still laugh, at least she doesn't cry anymore.

I don't have to explain to anyone why I get tattooed. I love me mum too, but either people get it, or they don't, and if they don't I don't try too hard in convincing them otherwise. She'll just learn to live with them.

Yeah, tell her over the phone and don't make a big thing out of it. The more comfortable you are in your own skin, the more others are too if that makes sense.

    Good luck.

  7. Yeah man...I agree with Josh. If you want to keep those designs have them re worked.

Don't stress. I've had plenty of work re worked, covered and it all works in with the suit just fine. welcome to a fkin great journey in getting smashed in ink :)

Take your time now, suss a few different tattooers, just talk with them, be straight up...find a fella who can cover/ re work well. Believe me...I've had real dark tattoos just ploughed over real heavy and it works well if the dude knows what he's doing...just be mindful, round 2 is the last round with this approach.

When ya find a good bloke that will help fix these tattoos for ya, just treat him with some respect & give him some clean skin first to work some real nice pieces. It's about building rapport.

    Good luck with it all.

  8. G'day Mick, I have seen your back before somewhere probably in one of my magazines, really like your tattoos!

Got any future plans for work or are you already fully covered?

    Who did your tattoos?

Cheers mate. Yeah, use to frequent a few shows but not so much these days. Pretty keen to hit the N Zed convention this November, then (fingers crossed) London for 2015.

Started out getting tattooed by Cliffe Clayton at High Energy in Fortitude Valley back in the mid 80's. I think we spent just as much time in the front bar of the Shamrock Hotel that was directly opposite ;).

Spent a few years travelling throughout the West, & one of my favourite shops was Bobby Thorton's, directly across from the Fremantle Workers Club, in Freo, on High street. Cheap cans of Bundy Rum always made for good sittings!

Pretty much all smashed in now bud...just started extending the neck line & working the hands & fingers. I like your front mate. Choice tattoo.

    Thanks for the welcomes fellas.

  9. Hey bud. Thanks for the kind words mate.

Use to frequent quite a few shows, not so many these days, but real keen to hit N Zed this year, then London for 2015.

Started getting tattooed by Cliffe Clayton back in the day at High Energy in Fortitude Valley...spent just as much time in the Shamrock Hotel directly across the road ;)

Pretty much out of space, so been creeping up extending the neck line & started hitting the hands.

    Your in Sydney mate?

  10. I've been using the pumping hot water way of healing for a few years myself. works a treat.

Steaming hot towel wash down directly after application.

Pumping hot shower (along with ice cold cider) as soon as I get home, washing it down with a body wash.

I only apply a dot of cream for any hard healing areas, mainly is creases or on the hands.
