Aaaannnndddd one more: this tiger is an add on from Colin Baker who works at State of Grace Tattoo in San Jose, CA. The tiger wraps around the inside of my right thigh. The Lady Warrior tattoo was completed in August earlier this year. The tiger was an add on. He also completed a very intricate Rat Warrior (yup the Chinese zodiac thing is lit on my leg), but that one was done on the back of my thigh. When I can figure out how to do a 360 degree shot of my leg, I'll post pictures of the complete battle scene. The Chinese calligraphy that I posted above, compliments this battle scene. Loosely translated it means: Brave woman, escape the ordinary.

I'm super stoked. Yesterday I started my second tattoo, a tiger half sleeve on my left arm.  Done by Jeff Stress at Enso Tattoo in Columbus, Ohio.  I'll try to get better pics, this one is right after the fact.  Two things that amazed me, that it only took Kevin 2 hours and how much the pain level can change in just a matter of a couple inches.

Break free would work well on a banner.

I have multiple lyrics and song titles tattooed on me. I wouldn’t say I regret the ones that are a little longer and harder to read, but I think if I’d gotten them now, I’d do it differently. But in more recent years, I’ve opted for shorter two or three word phrases incorporated into an image and I’ve been happier with the outcome. I also don’t regret any of the song or lyric choices over the years.

The whole shop was doing them - each artist had drawn up a flash sheet and it was a first come, first serve kind of thing. So each tattoo was only done one :). I really loved it, it was so fun and an amazing experience.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'good one for halloween flash' as this was my first experience and a really positive one :)
    Thank you :)

'Break free' or 'I want to break free' from the Queen song.

I actually love this idea - I think I'll but the words on the backburner until I get an idea or the oppurtunity and need to fill a banner. This would really suit the other stuff I've got going on at the moment.

That a very good point. I'm hoping 'break free' or 'I want to break free' is timeless enough but I'm still in my early 20s so while I doubt I'll ever hate freddy mercury it is harder for the meaning to evolve than with an image.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions! I ended up getting the opportunity to get tattooed at a convention this weekend (big rose on the hip/bottom ribs) so I'm not getting tattooed for a while. Think I'm gonna wait until I want a design with a banner and fill it with these words.

I got a Friday the 13th  (10/13) tattoo this year this year, that was also my birthday, and an oni on 10/22,but not one actually  on Halloween.
October is turning out to be "tattoo season" for me and my wife, we seem to get the most tattoos for the last few years in October.

Thats a good one for Halloween flash. I usually ask tattooers when they are doing a "regular" tattoo whether or not they do the Halloween thing. Some really take offense to them, others genuinely seem to like it. I just always want the artists to be happy when they are tattooing me. I believe they will do a better job if they are having fun.
Sorry for drudging up an old thread. All this Christmas bullshit has me missing halloween.

tay943 reacted to el twe in Red ink healing question
@Leah3 weeks is still plenty early as far as healing goes, I'd skip the ointment and wait at least 3 more weeks before starting something else...
I meant to update this thread sooner, but here's the latest on my red ink saga:
The benadryl cream didn't do a whole hell of a lot for me, other than some short-term relief.  The next suggestion was witch hazel, which I applied probably daily for several months.  Things got better, but only to a point.  Granted, I was told to have some applied with a tattoo machine and needle to get it under the skin, but topical application seemed to help.  I then visited my local shop, got a new tattoo, and asked this artist if he would do as the first artist (who had a guest spot but lives too far away for me to conveniently follow up with, besides the point but still) suggested and actually tattoo the spot with witch hazel.  He graciously obliged, which sparked a conversation with another artist who had a client with a similar problem and suggested rubbing vitamin E oil on the red ink.
The witch hazel tattoo helped a lot right away, and once that felt "healed" I began applying vitamin E oil twice a day, then daily, and now every few days.  Now, there are still some small spots that are a bit raised/hard, but nothing remotely like it was before.  The whole experience has honestly soured my feelings about the tattoo - nothing against the artist or the design, but I can't help but associate it with this 15+ month long healing process...
Sorry for the ramble, and hope it didn't come off as too much of a rant.  Tattoos!

You can see how the tattoo of the poem on my rib cage intersects with my back piece on the left side. I'm into it.

I'm going to be the odd woman out -

I love all my tattoos including the 11 year old song lyric tattoo that wraps around my right thigh and the 8 year old song lyric tattoo my right forearm.

I always feel the rightness of a new tattoo when I look at it and feel more myself now that I have it.

Having said that - if you are having such doubts and concerns that you feel the urge to solicit the opinions of Internet strangers, I'd hold off.

FWIW, studies show most people's musical tastes don't diverge after age 33 so you could always make it a bday present for your "Jesus year" if that hasn't passed for you yet.

To me the real question is if you'll like the lyrics as much in 10 years as you do now.  Difficult call to make.

Two words in a banner on a traditional rose or something would probably work out.

If I were you, I'd probably simple it down a bit. The ideas you have listed are, in my opinion, plenty for a full sleeve. So if you want to start with the forearm only, I'd probably just get a nice, big Hel/Freyja or Fenris wolf - and then some forest/sky/thunderstorms/something around it. The wolf on the forearm and a big goddess portrait on the upper arm would make a really cool full sleeve, but I think it would be too crammed with it all on a forearm.
Something like this is a pretty cool way to incorporate different motifs into one tattoo - but again, personally I would get a piece like that in a bigger spot than a forearm.
I'm not a tattooer, though - so maybe your tattooer will have a different opinion :)

Once it heals you really shouldn't have much of a problem! The sunburn I mentioned was the only time that tattoo has flared up in the three years I've had it. I think your tattoo looks awesome with the red from what I can see of it.

I've found red ink takes longer to heal on me too! All of my red ink areas have gone scabby so far - I even had one area get a little permanent dented scar. Recently got sunburned on the roses on my thigh (accident - I re-applied 3 times) and all of the red petals became raised and hot. then went super itchy and now flat again!
