Hello guys, I'm a 19 year old brazilian, with 0 tattoos so far.
I'm a front-end web developer so I'm really into design, and a little more than a year back I started "designing" some tattos I thought it would be awesome to do, and saved them in a folder. My plan is to create the tattoo design, put in the folder for at least 5 months, and then do it only if I still want to do it as much as I wanted when I did it (with this method I already deleted 3 designs).
I'm really into low poly art, and some minimalistic designs, but I want to make only original tattoos (original as in I drew it, then recreated using illustrator/photoshop and tweaked it, not original as in "no one have it" because I'm sure a lot of people may have tattoos similar to my ideas).
A while back when I first saw some wireframe low poly designs, I got really excited to tattoo a low polygon wireframe of a brain, but I wanted to do it on the inner side of my right arm (I'm planning on starting on discrete places first, so I can get used to having tattoos before I make some that will always be visible), and the brain design was too large and not tall enough to fit nicely on that place, so I put some more tought and decided I wanted something like a minimalist light bulb with a brain on the place of the filament (not original at all, but I wanted to draw something), so I drew a lot of versions, and I finally decided the best design, and recreated in Photoshop. The thing is: I'm worried that the tattoo will not look good with time, because I put the polygons with different shades of gray, and I know tattoos slowly loses the colors, I'm worried that the polygon colors merge with time, also that the brain details and the white lines at the middle vanish when the borders starts to get blurry.
I already chose the tattooer and I trust his skills (I know a lot of his clients with awesome tattoos, and he has won some prizes), with all the experience you guys have: This design: Image can become a nice tattoo? In the inner part of the right arm, my skin is light (kinda like the image background), and it would be ~11cm tall
Most of my other designs are more clear, but this one (exactly the one I want to do first) have this problem, if you guys tell me it's really difficult to get the tattoo like it's in the image I'll make adaptations until it's good to go.
P.S: I just spent hours reading stories on that "Crazy tattoo stories" topic, and had a good laugh on the "Worst tattoos ever", it's a really nice community, and I hope to be able to share my tattoos when I start taking those designs out of the computer.

Im in the process of restoring this footage- originally shot on 8mm film in the 1970s, converted to VHS in the 80s where this rip comes from. Doing me best to color correct it, but the VHS is suffering digital rot. Shot at Ken Myers Kissimmee shop.

When I was planning my left arm I had a lot of reservations about going down to my wrist so I was thinking 3/4s, but I was also thinking of what I could do later to extend that down to my wrist. I ended up going down to my wrist and I'm happy that I did because I ended up with a stronger tattoo than I would have if I'd gone for less coverage initially and then later extended it. I don't have a job where I need to cover my tattoos, and in situations where I do need to cover them, short sleeves still don't work with half sleeves. I know it's slightly different with women's fashion because there are more options, but if you're already tattooed near your elbow, chances are you've already limited yourself in terms of clothing if you need to cover them.
How much a tattoo is going to hurt should never be a consideration.

There's nothing you could do to that tattoo that wouldn't completely overwhelm it. Cover it with a real tattoo.

I would say that technique aside I'd be really bummed if any of those were on me, but the truth is if you showed me your drawings I'd refuse to be tattooed by you so it's a moot point. @CultExciter offered you excellent advice above. Those people would be a lot better off with some simple Sailor Jerry flash because at least it would be drawn correctly. Trace classic flash. Take up drawing from life to understand how things work and go together. Always use reference. Traditional style should be about taking objects and distilling them down to their essence: look at Scott Sylvia's roses. They're simple but they fully capture the elegance and beauty of a rose. Work hard to draw like that.

Good for you for working it all out. To be quite honest, and I mean this in the nicest possible way, it looks like you're just starting to figure out some of the basics of drawing for tattoos. I'd spend some time tracing stuff. Seriously. That SJ rose you see on the wall. Trace it 100 times. That way you know it by heart. Repeat. On whatever subject matter you like. Nothing too big. Just things to get your understanding down.
I would hesitate to do any of those as tattoos just yet. That whole crawl before you can walk thing. I started in the same place, and not too long ago at that. While I have a fine art background, learning to draw a panther, or oni, or rose, or swallow, or dragon, or whatever...it takes a lot of practice to do so correctly. I'm still figuring it all out...much like the rest of us.

Thanks so much for saying that- I sincerely can't tell you how much I needed to hear that. They definitely are awesome tattoos, and I don't think I'm going to mess with them.
My wife and I were out walking the dogs last night, and I looked back to see our little female Boston crossing the street. She was excited and panting and looked exactly like the tattoo. I think the artist kind of unknowingly captured her "crazy look." She looks the same way when she has been running around the dogpark and is in the process of stalking her older brother for whatever he has in his mouth.
I think you hit the nail on the head, though- I guess the look doesn't quite match what I had in my head, but it's still her and it's still some very cool ink that I will grow to love over time.

Thanks for the feedback! No, they're two different dogs (Boston Terriers). The other one is a male, and the one I'm thinking about changing is his little sister. She was just really tough to shade because she's pretty much all black with the little stripe on her forehead.

ah its a cool topic i think
i generally like showing off some tattoos
i wear shorts alot except a few winter months
and i have good coverage on my legs
of course once i go forearm in august it'll be game on even at work
    i enjoy talking about tattoos
but still get suprised by how rude some folks can be
like last week i was at a doctors office
and this guy stares down my my tiki tattoo
then he says "too dark - needs more color"
I stared back - didnt say a word - then when back to watching the tv
he couldnt give up of course and continued to trash talk his sons tattoos
to which i said - "hey - different styles for different people man"
thankfully he was called away to see the doc :)

it's definitely a big step, but it hasn't really changed the way i live my life. it's great having the enrichment that tattoos bring me visible for myself to see at almost all times. i don't have to go to the bathroom and pull up a sleeve or drop trou. i get to see the work of artists i admire and pieces that remind me of the things i want to be reminded of whenever i look down. not much better than reminders of home, loved ones, one of my earliest memories, stay calm, life is short, death is certain, perseverance, and WAKE UP! All in a glance.
definitely attracts more wandering looky loo eyes who don't get any of those reminders from looking at my arms. they're all mine! i might've said this in another thread, but now i realize why woman want you to look at their eyes and not at their breasts! hahahaha... i definitely notice folks stealing peeks at my arms mid-conversation. that's life changing in that it's made me more conscious of my own eye contact! O_O
i'm obviously a proponent of forearm tattoos for those who are ready for it. now, different threads already address the bolder placement on hands, neck, face, etc. that's a different story.
