  1. And if those artists are supposed to be some of the best in the business, what kind of quality can I expect from my local shop?

Since I can't start my own thread yet, can anyone recommend a good shop in the San Diego/North County area?

Don't use a shitty TV show to gauge the best of the business. Those tattooers were picked by TV producers for their differing levels of tattooing.

If you're in San Diego, go to Flying Panther. Ben Grillo spends half his time there and does some killer black and grey and has been dabbling on some sweet traditional. Dominic Vasquez pretty much does it all but I think he's best at Japanese tattoos and the owner, Rob, gets down on the traditional. No matter the style you're looking for there'll be someone there that can do it for you very well. The combined talent there shits all over the cast of Ink Masters ten fold.

  2. I only saw one episode, when he goes to get some tebori done, and it was mostly "look how drunk I'm getting!" and then 5 minutes of tattooing at the very end of the show.

Maybe it was just that one episode, but after that I was completely disinterested.

the tattoo he got though was fucking amazing. PM is here in town and I asked to see the tattoo he got, it's spectacular and for being 100% hand poked it puts many machine tattoos I've seen to shame...

  3. All that said, I think I got a good treatment. There was no blistering after the treatment, the worst thing that happened was the feeling of a slight sunburn.

There is also no apparent scarring now 2 months later so all in all I'm very happy with the outcome.

I'd rather pay more in the end for doing a higher number of light treatments than get a fewer amount of harsh treatments that could result in scarring.

Karl, what do you think about the results of the first treatment? I'd say it did a good start of breaking down the tattoo with no negative effects but you know more about this than I do...

  4. I"m getting treated by a dermatologist up the street from my house, the guys name is Dr Novatt but his assistant is doing the work, her name is Claire. The office is up here in Santa Barbara.

They're by far the best deal I've found besides Jinxproof but they're all the way in Washington DC, and they have one of the best lasers on the market.

I'm paying $600 per session to treat all the black. For one session I'm pretty happy with how much it's been broken up...

  5. it's been 2 months now since my first treatment, I wish I took the before in the same light as the after but if you look close you can see that just the one treatment has done quite a bit to the tattoo...

I'm going in on Wednesday for a second treatment and this time they'll treat the whole area instead of doing half and half.

Hopefully 2 maybe 3 more treatments and I'll be done with the laser :D
