  1. 15 when I got my first tattoos then some hand poked tattoos on my fingers' date=' done in Approved School (Reform School) I had them removed a couple of years later.

Then a forty year wait till my next tattoo. It's all been a bit of a blur since then.[/quote']

    Know what you mean.

Got the first one on my 19th birthday, more over the years till a t-shirt couldn't cover it, then nothing for a long time.

    I'm 46 now.

About 3 years ago I just went apeshit crazy with it.

The arms are full, shoulder to wrist. Thumb, and finger, working on the backpiece , couple on the leg....

I guess I've finally made peace with myself and then the rest of my world followed along, and I decided to decorate it all up

  2. I slept on my front' date=' or on my side in some cases. When my back was really tender I found that I would wake up in the same position as I'd fallen asleep in - it was like my body knew not to move too much.

As for applying stuff to it: As mentioned above, this is where a partner comes in handy. By the end, though, I'd actually gotten to be able to do it myself, just takes a bit of flexibility.

Overall the waistline was the worst part. Going to work wearing a shirt and pants sucked. I felt like my back healed quicker than some other parts of my body (my foot, for example).[/quote']

Pretty much the same for me so far.

I found that for the first night after a session I apply A&D ointment liberally and cover with plastic wrap, wear a plain white T-shirt, and sleep face down.

After that night I use Aquaphor till the flakes fall off then plain lotion.

I can reach everything myself, but it's nice having a sympathetic GF when I feel lazy :)

Seems to also help to wear white t-shirt for a week or so.

The worst thing is the itching! Having your entire back itch for a week straight is fucking insane!!!

  3. I really enjoyed that article. It got me thinking about just how many tattoos on me came from flash. My first tattoo in 1985 was from flash. I remember telling the tattooer the number written next to the design I wanted, like "A14" or something like that and he pulls a manilla envelope out of a file cabinet and gets the coresponding acetate stencil out and soon afterward he went to work on me.

My fathers one and only tattoo that he got in 1954 is from flash in a tattoo shop outside Ft. Bragg, N.C. I got the same tattoo last year because I was able to find the same design on a sheet of Sailor Jerry flash. The style of artwork on well executed flash is what I've automatically associated with what a tattoo should look like since I was a kid.

    Great ROA pics

    Thank you!

I've added a couple more ROA pics as there's been quite a bit more progress.

  5. I had some blood drawn for my cholesterol test a few weeks ago (hours before driving down for a tattoo session, as a matter of fact), and joked with the technician that I obviously had no problem with needles. She told me that a lot of the tattooed people she sees are terrified of needles.

I guess it's a different type of feeling between getting tattooed and getting a needle actually in a vein, but still...neither bother me, but I've been getting blood tests fairly regularly since I was a baby, so...

Im in the Dr's office right now knowing I'm gonna get cortisone injections in both hip joints and I'm quaking in my Vans right now. I hate getting shots. :(

  6. I got this last night. I swore I was not getting any more tattoos before I finished the ROA back piece, but dammit! this was just too good to pass up on. It sprang from an idea I had about funny stuff you could get tattooed.

It was the most fun time I've ever had getting tattooed. There were lot's of funny, raunchy stories told while this was done.

    MEAT CURTAINS!!!

    On my thigh.

  7. Been a while since I last posted, but yesterday I finally, finally, finally got to start my ROA backpiece.

First session finished and the main part of the outline is done! I meant to get started on this tattoo at the 1st of April, but got sidelined with some back and hip issues.

It's a crappy cellphone pic and I wasn't exactly standing up straight, but you can get the general jest of it.

The ribs and lower back portion hurt like Hell, but it was well worth it. I'm pretty stoked about it.

(and there's a cover-up of an old 101st Airborne tattoo going on in there too).
