First that I remember was my great uncle when I was about 6 years old. He had been in the Navy many years ago and had a Navy Anchor just below the elbow on the front of his left arm. I remember thinking he was the coolest relative I'd met.

I live in eastern Kentucky where visible tattoos, especially those that don't look like they were done in someones bathroom, are pretty rare. I've noticed this kind of odd thing that a lot of older people that I would think would be more likely to react negatively seem to like them. I had one older lady approach me and ask if I had put any lotion on my arms that day. She said the colors were really pretty and proceeded to give me lotion from her purse for me arms. I was raised to be rather polite and make it a point to be. It's always fun to have someone look at you funny and then hold a door for them. That always gets interesting reactions.

This is a blog Dan Henk wrote for Tattoo Artist Magazine blog recently. In it he discusses some of the issues with super realistic stuff and aging. I was just wondering what other people may think of it.

I have a question about the proper way to go about something, and would like some input. My right arm is about 1/2 covered so far(the bottom 1/2). It was all done by one artist and is actually really nice stuff. I'm wanting to get the arm finished now though. The tattoos that are there already are finished work, I just want to get the rest of the arm covered. I've been going to a different artist recently and I'm curious if I would be an asshole if I had the guy I've been going to recently finish the arm off or should I go back to the guy who did the existing work?
    I certainly appreciate any input!

Just my personal opinion here. I think facial tattoos are a very grey area. Freddy Corbin's fit him well, and I've got a good friend with some facial tattoos that fit him good too. I agree with Patriot Ink about the tribal stuff. There are 2 instances where I almost always dislike facial tattoos. The tribal stuff on the wrong people and the people who are trying SO hard to prove how "against modern society" they are.

Looks awesome dude! Don't feel bad. I'm more anal about my lotion and sunblock than most women. Gotta protect that investment.

My chest is the only place I really have a problem with in-growns. I've had tattooing on my chest twice in the last twelve months. First time I just shaved with a good new razor and went along. I got some nasty ingrowns from that. The second time I had my wife wax the area(she's a licensed cosmetologist and esthetician so it was done right), and it worked out great. It took a bit of planning though. She said it takes about 14 days for waxed hair to start to grow back so we did it 10 days before the tattooing, that way the skin in the area had a chance to recover from the waxing trauma but the hair wasn't back yet. May not be a good idea, but it worked for me.

I think my longest was 3&1/2. My limit is usually about 3 hours. After about 2 I start to get uncomfortable, and at 3 hours I'm ready to be over with it for the time being. I used to think it was a competition, but I don't care anymore. When I get tattooed, I'm there to have a good experience, period.

I feel you dude. I was just talking to someone the other day about a recent shitty tattoo they got and they said the guy is "pretty good for around here". I told them there are actually tattooists around here that are plain old GOOD, not just for here, for anywhere. Then they were the usual complaints of money and likely having to schedule something at least 2 weeks ahead. I just said that they'll get the tattoo they deserve. People want to be stupid, shitty fuckheads, then they deserve stupid shitty tattoos.

Just personal experience here. Clean and sober 5 years earlier this month and 30 years old now. The best thing my mom ever did for me was kick me out. Oddly enough she's a school teacher too. She's been a guidance counselor at an elementary school for almost 20 years now. I spent a day in a homeless shelter and was able to get in to a rehab program the salvation army runs for homeless people. It was a bit religious for my taste, but it was free, and it really helped. If you do some digging there are actually quite a few rehab(ish) places that are basically free of charge. I wouldn't call what happened to me an ultimatum or an intervention. She came home to find me passed out drunk on the couch and when I left she called the police. She came to visit me in jail after that and told me she could get me into this rehab place if I wanted, or I was on my own. She's my biggest supporter today, and we've got a great relationship. I know it's hard, and it's a shit decision to have to make, but I don't know anyone who got clean living with mommy and daddy. It's probably happened a few times, I just don't know of any. Just know there's a world of love out there, and there is help. Welcome to Al-Anon Family Groups
