I don't read any of Brooks posts like he was shopping around for price, he was simply asking what an artist charged and they told him they had a shop price. If he asked multiple artists then yea, I agree that it's weird, but I don't read his posts like that.
Do you guys really find it weird to ask the artist what they charge an hour or for an estimate on a piece for a walk-in? We aren't talking about scheduled appointments here.. There is no consult, there is no back and forth texting or emails, it's just showing up to the shop, talk to the artist and get a tattoo. Not everything needs 5 weeks of planning, especially not tattoos that are exact copies of Sailor Jerry flash..

No, an apprentice won't charge the same as the owner, that would be retarded.. However, the artists (that aren't apprentices) might have the same hourly rate. I don't see what's the real weird thing here?
And did you put your name on a waiting list for a specific artist or the shop in general? If the shop, yeah then I think you did the right thing about backing out. You should pick the artist..

If you have scabs, then they will become soft in the water and that make them really prone to getting scraped off. If you don't have scabs then you will probably be fine. I've taken my tattoos into the ocean after 7 days without worrying a bit about it cause of their healed state.

Got this dragon head from Greg Christian when he was at Congress St tattoo!  I have always wanted a dragon head from him and I absolutely LOVE this one.
This was done on Saturday 4/30. The very next day Jason Scott finished up the background on my left arm.  Super happy with the results of that as well and I will post those pics soon.
It was super annoying to heal two arms at once, especially considering the Greg Christian piece is almost my whole inner forearm, and Jason Scott's work was from my elbow up to my armpit and shoulder.  It was all worth it though in the end.
Greg recommended using Tegaderm to heal the dragon head.  Jason Scott had a roll of it,  and between him, Greg, and Spencer Scott,  they managed to get it on really well.  I guess the stuff wasn't cooperating at first and it took a few tries (painful tries... put it on, take it off....) and a few different hands to get it on in the end.  That stuff seemed to work like a charm.  I've included a mostly healed pic as well.  I say mostly healed because you can still see a few flakes of the second peel in that pic.  I would definitely use it again.  I healed Jason's stuff the normal way and that turned out really good as well.  Very relieved and extremely happy as I find healing tattoos pretty stressful all around.

I hate it when people with 1/2/no tattoos give me tips on how to heal my tattoos..

My 2 cents is that if you're gonna be an idiot and tattoo yourself (I've done my own leg), at least spend the small amount of money to get sterile needles and tattoo ink.

You find experts in anything you do. 
People generally get excited about what they like and want to appear very knowledgeable. And with tattoos they also want to appear tough - "like I sat for 10hrs straight", I hear this brag statement so often for the most unsubstantial tattoos it is nauseating. I'm like, good for you that must have hurt! But when it's obvious they got grey lined, then lined, then re-lined again and then delicately grey shaded I'm like suuuure bud that must. have. hurt (your pocket) !
But whatever, I know what's up with my tattoos and my tattooists and what it really takes to go the distance, so good for them.
I guess my peeve is people asking about your tattoos. They don't sincerely ask about your tattoos.
Nobody gives a shit about your tattoos.
Maybe I'm being a little melodramatic...but 90% of the time being asked about your tattoos is simply the unsolicited invitation for people to just talk and show off their own. It is a penis-measuring contest. People love to talk. And love hearing themselves talk.
And perhaps I'm no different. I mean really I post here at LST often because this is one of the very few outlets I have (aside from the tattoo shop) where I can wax about tattoos and my experience with honesty (and feel like I have an audience haha). So peace to the LST cats for reading my words, whether you reply or care. Or you can just scroll past, who cares!
There is a lot of ego and attitude in the tattoo scene. So perhaps the lesson for me here is to ask people about their tattoos (in person) more often when i do see something cool or fresh. Everybody has their own story to tell.
It's all good though. Just keep getting tattooed because you enjoy it. Enjoy it for yourself. The people who truly are ass-deep (literally) into tattoos no what's up and will keep the culture thriving, pet peeves or not.

My wife and I just had our sleeves finished. Both took 3 sessions. We've been getting all of our ink done at Funhouse Tattoo in Vancouver, BC. If you aren't familiar with that shop, have a look online and read a bit about the founders. They hold some patents on some awesome tattoo machines and have been part of the tattoo scene for decades now. Such an awesome shop atmosphere coupled with wicked artists.
