  1. Hmmmmmmmm I wonder if anyone has a copy of International Tattoo Art November 1996 issue???? If you do not, too bad, it came out before a lot of "contemporary" tattooers were able to grow those beards. He has flash set's older than the latest crop of tattooers out there............and it's all done with a speedball nib, and water colors. Try to get a back issue, because it is a very long interview, with tons of really good pics of REAL street shop tattooing. I still do his flash in my shop to this day.

  2. The polynesian/Hawaiian style, I have no reservations, that's part of the culture over here, accepted by all. Half of my head is tattooed and I keep it shaved......pretty evil black and grey, I call it the hair club for Tim.....lol. I was going up for a trial a few years ago, morning of my jury selection, my lawyer stressed out about my head, then the prospective jurors kinda gathered around me like I was a rock star (Hawaiians are so cool when it comes to tattoos) all very curious, until the bailiff freaked out and yelled at all of us. We were not stressed about the tattoos after that...........

The kind of facial tattoos I am referring to in this thread are exactly what Hawk is mentioning about Lil Wayne.......The gangsta tattoos on the face........kids coming in and "Set Trippin" on their cheeks and eyebrow lines..........Now it's spreading to the "afro saxons" and even skaters. Jay Adams is running around the north shore with LA on his face.......

Those are the ones I get a pit in my stomach about........"Is this one gonna come back later crying to me about some "hard luck" they are experiencing? I like to work and make money, am I violating some ethical code?

  3. One of the most regularly requested tattoos I have been noticing are facial tattoos. I keep getting requests by guys and girls/ Guys wanting small designs across the eyebrow...words, or something small where a tear drop would go......city initials, spiders etc....gangster shit......girls wanting the stars etc........

For some reason, I get this feeling that I am doing something taboo..........like when that little voice is telling me not too and I get that feeling in my gut.

    Anybody else experience this?

Any of you get regular requests for this shit?

  4. I enjoy the artistic license afforded me by my customer, with a general subject. I follow some simple old rules that have worked for a long time. When they look at a refined line drawing, they get the idea.

I hate seeing money go out the door, so I will draw as long as my schedule allows. Getting off my sometimes lazy ass and doing a color study usually results in a stoked customer and a way better tattoo.

I have noticed this, people come in with a better description and more willing to make the attempt at conveying their desire since the television shows. Some tattooers get grumpier with age, but the cool head always prevails.

  5. The Lance in Hawaii used to work for Rollo. The Lance from Orlando..........I think is Lance Conklin......who was running around with Milford Barnes down in the San Diego area. Lance from Hawaii is still working in his shop daily. Still wears chinos and aloha shirts everyday. You seriously walk into a time warp when you step into his shop. Very cool guy.

Lance did this one ten years ago. He called me back the next day freaking out. He said he woke up in the middle of the night and remembered that he forgot to tattoo the nipple on her. Then said, show it around, and if nobody says anything, then we wont worry about it.............if anyone notices, come back and lets put that nipple on her.

  7. Lance McClaine is going strong. Still paints flash daily, I have been tattooed by him twice, and all guests that work at my shop go pay their respects and get tattooed by him. He will spend literally the whole day on a tattoo the size of your hand, he likes having someone to talk to. He chases people out of the shop when he is tattooing on the tattooers. You can also feast your eyes on some original Sailor Jerry flash on the walls where he works on you. I feel like a slob whenever I go there, he keeps his place OCD neat.

  8. I've been getting my old work covered finally. All of that Little Vinnie flash I thought was so cool in the early nineties is being covered up with big bold color work. Lance McClaine covered a piece on my right arm with some bold roses......Corey Rogers did a Panther head bustin out of a rose, then TimmyTatts did a big bowling pin eagle on my right forearm........Still have a ways to go, but I am loving my arms again.

  9. Aloha from Hawaii. My name is Tim Goodrich, I've been tattooing for over sixteen years, most of them in Hawaii. I own and operate out of two locations Aloha Tattoo one and Aloha Tattoo two. I bought Aloha from a good friend of mine, Larry Hanks. I am into everything that is synonymous with this island chain, Tattoos, Motorcycles, Surfing, Art, MMA, you name it. I haven't been on these forums for a while, the flame wars turned me off. This looks like a good mature forum, and I hope to communicate with cool artists.
