DennisSmyth got a reaction from CultExciter in Portland: Cross-Country Endeavors
I have been there a few times, and like you I am a Northeast corridor kid born and raised. I always enjoyed myself out there, it is a really young city it seems, which has its pros and cons. I am sure some of the people on here have great insight into the area, but I would just commend you in the gumption to go for it. There might be something that clicks as soon as you get there, or it might be just another step in the right direction. You would never know if you didn't make the trip, and shit you might find a place that seems perfect before you even get all the way to the other side of the country, good luck regardless on your endeavors.

A place to post pictures of yours or ones that you drool over.
There are few things better than a well thought out and executed full back piece. So much potential as it's the largest solid flat plane on your body.
I'll start with this one that Thomas Hooper just posted on his blog as in progress. So awesome! For those who aren't familiar with Hooper he works at the great shop New York Adorned

I saw a girl come into the shop with a memorial piece she had gotten done for her father. "Daddy's Little Angle" I suggested instead of covering it up, we just put a speed square underneath and say he was a carpenter.

DennisSmyth reacted to hogg in Video from Asian Art Museum: Shige, Horitomo, Horiyuki, Horitaka, Horiyoshi 3-related
In 2008, the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco invited Horitaka of State of Grace to participate in their MATCHA series. Horitaka not only gave a lecture on Japanese tattooing--he also tattooed a client in the museum, as did Horitomo, Horiyuki (aka Jill Bonny), Colin Kenji and Shige (who was also accompanied by one of his clients). Horitomo put in a few hours on my arm, then worked on Khalil Rintye's ribs for a while.
It was a very odd experience. I've been tattooed at conventions, but this was very different. At conventions, most of the attendees are tattooed. At the museum, that was not the case; tons of people were coming up and asking me all kinds of questions. (If only I'd brought earbuds--plugged into nothing--I could've played it off like I couldn't hear them.) In the end, I was happy to participate.
Until last week, I never knew there was a video of the event. Check it out: at 3:40, you can see me and my buddy Clem comparing open spots on our legs. Clem's the guy with the huuuuuuge Jeff Zuck panther on his back (as well as lots of other awesome stuff).
But my favorite thing about this is that the top youtube comment says, "0:59 is that Ami James?" :D
