  1. I had a reaper done on my rib area 2 months ago. The 1st session, I was fine for it. I sat like the dead for it. I took 2 prescription percocets and I was good. Same formula for the 2nd session, only this one was painful as heck, good thing it only took an hour. Funny how 2 sessions with about the same conditions and I had different reactions.
  2. I was at the scene of a car accident years back and one of the cars was on fire and upside down. Me and the only cop there were making sure nobody was left in the cars and the gas tank blew. We were sprayed with burning gasoline, luck was with us, we were on the far side of the car. I wound up with a couple of 3rd degree burns on a relatively fresh tattoo. I just let it heal. I finally had the burn covered with new work a few years ago,
  3. I had a real close brush with death last October... take THAT you F***ing heart attack...
  4. I like it as-is, A nicely done tattoo. I find that it takes a while to adjust to a new tattoo, something has been added to your body. It takes a while to sink in.
  5. I cover my tattoos at work, some people know and it is not a big deal. I never hear anything said about anyone's tattoos except for one guy had some gang-banger wanna-be tattoo on his neck.
  6. I sat for 3 hours last night, rib area and part of my stomach and towards the side. I doubled up on my prescription pain medication and did very well. A couple of regulars stopped in and we shot the breeze for a while. Keeping busy is a big help.
  7. This was done late last night, still needs a little finish work. The reaper is clutching a human heart, homage to my close call last October.
  8. I have a few more appointments booked so I have no withdrawal problems. Then I'm done until the fall, got 2 things in mind including a large back piece.
  9. May have been closer to 2.5 but I don't watch the clock. I just ask "how much do I owe you" at the end.
  10. I like incense and that green soap smell, takes me back to my 1st tattoo in 1977.
  11. I had my koi touched up and some flowers done over the fading maple leaves. Also a wrist band of skulls and roses.
  12. A couple of Ivan and Chloe I took a few days ago.
  13. I had some work done Friday night. I was at the shop earlier, a friend of mine was getting a tattoo. I had planned on going home first, but would up going to dinner with my friend, plus it was raining hard. I had one pain pill with me, 2 would have been nice. So I took the 1 and it was good enough. I sat for 2.5 hours having a hanya started.
  14. I tell everyone, when in doubt, get a dragon, bigger the better. Panthers are always in as well. Panther and a snake is another one.
  15. Done last week by Gina at Studio 69 Tattoo on Long Island, NY. On my right shoulder.
  16. I have a neck and back injury so the neck pillow I mentioned is a must. I bring water or Gatorade and really not much else. I ask what everyone in the shop wants when I first get there and hit the deli next door.
  17. I have one that the green was lined in a darker green and it has held up. I have had older black-lined tattoos spread out over time. Ones that were close together almost touched after 20 years. I agree that the sun is a tattoo's worst enemy. I know one artist, she has some nice water color work on her, no outline but she is almost an albino compared to me and never sets foot in the sun. Her work still looks perfect years later.
  18. I take my pain killers as prescribed and I have to be able to drive home after my appointment. I would have to take like 4 or 5 during a tough tattoo, so its not worth it.
  19. My mom died as a result of her smoking and high blood pressure... at age 52. I was only 24. Always tough to lose a parent no matter when. I am currently out of parents.
  20. I find that dealing with the same shop and artists over a long period of time, they treat me right. Nothing is ever free, but is what some people seem to be looking for. A good experienced artist will work faster than someone with less experience. I have known artists that would purposely drag a tattoo out longer than it should have, just to make extra $$. I've noticed that some shops are not that busy, it seems that at least locally here the winter is off-season for tattooing. And big in the summer. I want all my tattoo work in before mid May. So an artist will appreciate the work a little more in the slow season. I now spend what I want on tattoos, but before I would save up for one. Put away $20 and $10 there and it adds up quick.
  21. Bactine might be a good idea, I recall it being great on scrapes when I was a kid and fell off my bike. I found my stomach to be okay, not the ribs. Grandaddy of all pain was into the armpit.
  22. It was terrible, I can imagine what the home life was like. My ex-wife was there when I got a large tattoo and she was fine, just watched, not a peep. Regardless, we were done as a couple in the next 6 months.
  23. Why not get another small tattoo as well? It would spread that $150 out a lot better.
