@ligatortat  Why don't you get a tattoo of a star exploding????  That would pretty well cover everything you want with it...  You could get it elsewhere on your body - other arm, further up your arm, on your leg, etc.

With regards to the design, I'm kind of meh. It's not bad, but not very exciting either. Seen much better.    With regards to the concept of mixing styles, why not? A similar post was made in the past and I noted I'd seen images on IG in the past that have mixed Japanese backgrounds with another culture's myths. Someone else posted a sleeve a bit back that had traditional motifs with a Japanese cloud background. It was cool to me.  So saying that I don't see a big issue with the idea that an artist can make it work proper. Will it be traditional? Maybe not. Do you want it to be? Maybe. Maybe not. The key thing is finding an artist that can make it work though. Valerie Vargas seemed to make it work on I think it was an Athena sleeve and same goes with Chris Brand's Suikoden pieces. That's essentially Japanese (and Chinese) meets East LA culture and he's rocking it. Those people had skill to make it work. Many do not so hopefully you have found someone who can.   The artist seemed to go a different route than you originally wanted though. If you're not a fan, skip the idea and the middle man. I agree with others that you should work with a tattoo artist. And perhaps run with your original thoughts if that was what you wanted.

@ligatortat trying to accentuate a small sized tattoo with an afterthought never ends up with a great result. it will overshadow and take the eye away from your new atom tattoo.
For your consideration...what about your opposite wrist? Something simple and classy like a small illustration of a ringed planet and a couple of stars/dots. A picture is worth a thousand words! You know all about "star stuff" when you look at the tattoo, sometimes less is more. Good luck and en joy your new tattoo.

It's not really nudity if it's fully tattooed.

Which is my excuse for dropping trou in public places to show people my back.

I wouldn't worry about offending anyone here. Most of us have posted uncensored photos of our tattooed butts.

Great thread bump. I'm slowly chipping away at the blank spots, but they still greatly outnumber the inked ones.
I consider my torso and one arm to be "finished". Mainly working upper legs now. I'll say that once I've gone all the way around as well as doing my back, I'd be willing to start throwing around the term suit in progress.
I think that you have to have some pretty serious coverage before you get to that point though. Maybe we can adopt some wet-suit style names to best describe our progress. Long John for everything but sleeves... I'm working towards a Springsuit with long sleeves myself.

i think this is a fair question and I suppose you can call it whatever you want ! full backpiece describes your goals. if you are extending from the chest down the front torso/sides than i think claiming bodysuit is fair.
but...my $0.02 you see it a lot on instagram now a days - like fresh sleeves and an empty torso claiming #bodysuit or bodysuit-in-progress. it's pretty lame. it's just a tattoo (and an unfinished one at that). it either is or it isn't. those that feel the need to go around and tell everyone and #describe how tatted up they are...probably aren't.
the whole thing and magnitude became very real to me when I went to a tattoo convention and stripped down in public next to checkerboard man to get a photo. the reality set in on where i was at with my years of steady progress. before that moment it was just A LOT of tattoo. and it still is ! that a bodysuit isn't a trivial thing - many people have many tattoo, but there are very few who have and will succeed going the full distance. it is not an undertaking to be taken lightly. and there is no finish line to my tattoo suit, it is and will be ever evolving and will be finished the day I die.
it requires a lot of time, money, patience and dedication to complete any larger tattoo, not just a bodysuit.
    good luck with your plans

You're not going to get a more favourable response by reposting the same thing.

I think you got what you paid for with the design.  If you want Japanese, even with non-Japanese elements like you want, at the very least go to somebody who understands and has experience with Japanese tattoos, because it looks really bad if you get it wrong.

You're approaching this all wrong. Instead of asking what's the minimum you can do to have an acceptable tattoo, maybe think about asking what you can do to get the best possible tattoo.  Either way, it's on you for life, so you might as well go for the good option.

Wouldn't it be more effective to create an image that calls to mind "we are all star stuff" vs an upside down phrase?  Doesn't the atom imply that we are "star stuff"?
Lettering in tattoos does not necessarily age well...  I'm talking aging 10-20-30 years down the line not 3-5 years down.

    And THIS too!!!!!!!
Or dragon sleeve and ho-o sleeve?
I didn't ask for it but Horitomo gave me a a double yin yang - ish pair of Monmon cat tattoos on my feet. Each cat sleeping in the opposite direction of ones other with tattooed snakes doing the flip flop swirl. I just wanted a tattoo from him, it was his design choice. Genius! Which also brings up talking about the idea with an artist. They'll do you right.

I deliberately left a 2" x 3" blank in my tattoosuit...for a spider with a yin-yang butt. i fuggin hate spiders, every since that grade 6 science fair where these little bitches traumatized me for life with a taxidermy tarantula. But I digress...I'm sure this concept has been done before and you can copy my sweet idea if you want, but it won't look a fraction as bad ass on your shoulder as it will tucked into the hidden realms of my shaolin suit hehe!
My advice...wait...then go the distance with a big ol dragon tattoo. Put the yin-yang in the fireball in the dragon claw...do the dragon big enough such that the claw is the size of a baseball glove and yin yang is the size of a hardball!
