  1. @embers , I think I was getting zapped by Colella while you were getting your Desa dagger/rose. Was it on Friday night? Very nice tattoo you got. Here (in this crappy cell phone picture of a fresh tattoo) is one of the pieces I got from him.
  2. I have to say, I like the Vans knife and the Lehi tiger the most, though that's not to say the others aren't great. Congrats, Iwar.
  3. About my tattoo experiences with Nick Colella (got two pieces of Dietzel flash) and Ron Henry Wells (snake and rose) this weekend, I would have to say that it was much like OaktownFunk's. Being a part of the convention and seeing all those tattooers and good people visiting the booths while getting tattooed was awesome. I'd say it was a great first time at the SFO convention, but I wish I would have stayed longer. Also, It was very rewarding, finally getting a Wells tattoo; I've wanted one since I first saw his work a few years ago. Thanks for the amazing tattoos, fellas.
  4. The Exploratorium is pretty sweet. I second the Mission's bar scene. The Independent. The Boom Boom Room. Slim's. Half Moon Bay (The harbor, It's Italia, Poplar Beach, the tide pools at the south end of Poplar, Old Princeton Landing, Sushi Main Street...)
  5. Here's one that Cris Cleen did on Erik Jacobsen. Cleen's wife also has one that says "Cleen" (I think), but I can't find the picture. I always liked the idea of wedding band tattoos.
  6. Old picture, but this is what I am drinking right now. Also, we have Back in Black on tap at the restaurant that I work at... good beer.
  7. Actually, and this is just a hypothesis, but i would put money on the fact that plastic surgeons get plastic surgery. I would also go as far as to say that if they didn't, they're just feeding off of other people who do want plastic surgery. I mean they must know the risk involved, and if they don't believe that the risk is worth it themselves, then they shouldn't be doing it to other people. That kind of passion has bad motives. I was tattooed by Cris Cleen back in July, and I have to say that I respect that he has a shit ton of tattoos and dresses the way that he does. I may be naive in thinking this, but I think that he puts forth an image that represents his beliefs. I know some people here have a strong resentment for Cris, and I would like to hear their side of the story. EDIT: To your above post- I find it hard to believe that a person could feel strongly enough about someone else's designs to put them permanently on that person, yet not be able to relate to enough of them to be able to cover yourself in something similar. I mean if you're a tattooer, you see countless ideas roll through your hands and into your clients' skin. Humans relate to other humans unless they have some kind of complex where they think that they are so special that no one on Earth could possibly be like them. That's why traditional designs last so long. They're inherently human. Anyway, I am rambling...
  8. That is a terrible analogy. You are related something like tattooing (a personal choice) to something like surgery (a medical need). Of course a surgeon is going to get surgery if he or she needs it. BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE IN THEIR 'CRAFT'. If someone believes in putting needle to skin and permanently marking people with images of pure humanity, if they truly believe in it, he or she will commit to it and live by that belief by getting tattoos.
  9. I had some New Belgium La Folie a while back. It was delicious. Haven't had it since because it's really expensive, but I might pick some up for a special occasion.
  10. I'm going to have to give that truck some business next time I am in Oakland. Thanks for the tip. Another spot in Half Moon Bay is Cafe Gibraltar. Very good Mediterranean spot. Don't know how I forgot to post that one in my first post... guess it's been too long since I went there.
  11. Going to Marlon Asher on Friday at the Rockit Room. Missed Rock the Bells this past weekend. :( Favorite show to date: Hot Club of San Francisco at Yoshi's on Fillmore for my 21st birthday.
  12. Oakland: Pico Paco (Mexican food right by Freddie Corbin's spot) Bakesale Betty's (best fried chicken sandwich I've ever had; also right by Freddie Corbin's shop; great lemonade slush) I hear the taco/food trucks in Oakland are to die for Cafe Gratitude (vegan food, good beer) The Trappist (a reputable source says they have great beer selection; food pairings specialized to beer) San Francisco: Fresca (Peruvian. Excellent paella. Great sangria. Three locations.) Basil (Thai food. A Must have.) North Beach Sushi (Great owner, awesome sushi) Monk's Kettle (a VAST beer selection with great food. I have yet to go here, but I really want to.) El Mansour (Moroccan. Floor seating, great bread/lentil soup to start, amazing atmosphere; get the rabbit. Also, belly dancing two or so time a week.) Golden Boy Pizza (hole in the wall. GREAT pizza.) Half Moon Bay (where I live; about 20 miles south of SF on the 1): It's Italia (I work here, so stop by if you are in town, and I will buy you a drink. Great Italian food with a little Spanish thrown in. Fairly expensive, though. Music Fridays and Saturdays. Check out the menu online. I eat here about 4 times a week and am still not sick of the food. Full bar. Chimay, 21st Amendment, Anchor, Speakeasy on tap.) Sushi Main Street (best sushi in town. Great owner. Sake bar next door.) Half Moon Bay Sports Bar & Grill (best cheap burger in town. It's a sports bar.) Tres Amigos (Mexican. Awesome.) El Gran Amigo (Mexican. Also awesome. Run down as hell.) and a couple Fine dining places that are a must: Mezza Luna; Pasta Moon; Costanera. Cetrella is also nice (used to work there as well), but not as good as the others. Then there's always the Ritz Carlton, but I have never eaten there, myself. I'll post more as I remember them...
  13. I'll second Theo Mindell as one of the top lady-headers. I'll probably end up with one from him sometime soon. Also, I didn't see Cris Cleen mentioned in here, but I love his ladies. ALSO, that Dietzel flash on the last page is soooooo good.
  14. I work in a restaurant right now, and one of the waitresses has a small wrist script tattoo that is easily visible during work. I don't think they would be too keen on a hand/neck tattoo or anything, though. I'm just going to keep my hands and neck clear until I know what I want to do with my life.

Figured I would make one of these little threads to properly introduce myself even though I have already made a few posts. Name's Myles, and I am just getting started with my tattoo collection. I live about 20 miles south of SF, so I have a lot of good tattooers to get something from before my time is up. I came to find LST through the tattoo thread over at 12ozProphet (same username over there; RIP original tattoo thread). Anyway, thanks to those of you who have shown me a warm welcome so far. Lochlan, this is a great forum you have set up; lots of great information, and great people from what I can tell.
  16. I'm enjoying some Piraat. Great beer from Belgium.
  17. My ex girlfriend's girlfriend's boyfriend was a juggalo, but I never saw him with the clown makeup, and he didn't act like a hardcore juggalo to my knowledge. I'll tell you one thing, he had the worst grim reaper tattoo I have ever seen. I only knew it was a reaper because of the sickle. The rest, I couldn't make out. This thread has been a riot.
  18. Thanks, man. You've been one of the most influential persons over at 12oz as far as my tattoo taste goes. Can't believe I missed you at the shop. Check your inbox.
  19. I like to think that I've had some help getting started correctly (thanks, 12oz guys). Nice to see you around these parts.
  20. Most recent tattoo (and first tattoo)- Cris Cleen last month. I may post a picture soon; it's a woman holding a mirror on my thigh. Upcoming- Nick Colella in October for some Dietzel flash. Theo Mindell in December for a devil head.
  21. I agree wholeheartedly with the opposition toward people who get stick and pokes as an alternative to in-shop tattoos done by professionals. I was looking for those that Jade and swastika referenced. Like I said, fun ones. I appreciate the story, Jade, and thanks for the thoughtful back and forth from others.
