I find Royboy to be one of the most fascinating examples of "Tattoo Celebrity" out there. His videos were once reviewed as "little more than proof of possessions for his insurance company with liberal dashes of racism and bad tattooing". I should know since I wrote that review :D
Yet he seems to really love tattooing. And speaking about himself in third person.

I think it was 1989 or 90. Typical biker shop. My folks got my brother and I tattoos as a present for graduating high school early. Two fresh faced kids and a bunch of dudes in denim vests and colors. Yeah. I fit RIGHT in. I remember that the artist wore gloves but not shoes. Hahah.
The smell of green soap brings me back every time though. if they could make a cologne out of it, I'd probably wear it.

So I'm pretty much a packrat. And I have 1000s of hours of VHS video in various rubber maids around my house. Some commercially produced stuff. Some literally one of a kind transfers of old 8mm films that were left to me when older friends passed away.
I found out last night that my "dazzle" video hub doesn't work with a mac, so I put an order in for a Apple compatible device. Soon I'll be transcoding old films to digital.

I've had a beard since I could grow one. Probably around 17. I've shaved it off once in 20 years; bad idea all around.
I haven't trimmed it since October, so it's pleasantly out of control right now. I use LUSH American Cream conditioner on it to keep it nice and soft.

The Bluray version of Santa Sangre is SO f'ing nice. When Topo and Mountian finally come out, I'm going to lock myself in my movie room and not come out for a few days.
I had a chance to go see Holy Mountain in NYC about four, five years ago. They had just restored the print and it was crisper than I had ever seen it. Before the show starts, they introduce Alejandro and we collectively gasped. He spoke for a little bit, then sat right down with us and watched the movie. I had met Kenneth Anger earlier that night, so walking up and shaking hands with Jodorowsky.... that just made my year.
Sadly, I don't ever see KING SHOT getting made. It's been in "preproduction" for a couple of years now.

He's the NICEST dude, too. Made the experience, which was gutwrenchingly awful, as pleasant as he could.

I posted something about this in the intro forum, but I figure it's more appropriate here.
I first met Mike Wilson when I was a teenager. I think 16. He was a few years older and not yet tattooing. We became friendly, and as he moved from apprentice to tattooer and I moved from little pieces to big, he started doing the occasion piece on me.
My second tattoo from him was a back piece. Outlined and shaded in one bigass session.
But years later.... after I moved to Philly.. Mike did my foot.
He was guesting at Kadillac tattoo and dropped his business card in my mail slot when he got into town. (Not much of a texter back then, apparently. hah)
So I head up to Kadillac and we decide to do a Free Mason monkey with banana pentagram on my foot. He draws it on, Eric closes up the shop and heads home.
He's about 3/4 of the way done when he realizes theres no more nitrile gloves left in his box. Or in the shop.
It's after midnight, and there's no drug stores open to buy new gloves.
And I'm very allergic to latex. Like hospital allergic.
So we're racing the clock to finish the tattoo without having to change gloves one last time. We discuss finishing it the next time he visits. We discuss what would happen if he wore a latex glove.
Finally... when changing gloves became an absolute necessity...
We wrapped the fuck out of his hand with paper towels and prayed to god I hadn't made any bad lifestyle choices in the last few months.
15 years of friendship made us a little more comfortable with the bad idea that we were doing.

I just started brining a cow's tongue on Wednesday. It'll take about five days in the brine before I can cook it. Same prep as a corned beef, then cooled and sliced on my deli slicer (seriously... every home should have one) and served as a sandwich. Little spicy mustard and you're set.
Once people get past the initial "ick" factor of organ meat... it's usually quite good.
