Hello!  I currently have 3 tattoos and tomorrow I'm supposed to be adding on to one of them.  Originally my appointment was a few weeks ago but I had to reschedule because I was very, very sick!

Now, I'm sick again!  It's not as bad this time though....no fever/chills/aches.  Just congestion and a slightly sore throat (that is better now after some hot water/honey/lemon).  Soooo, should I reschedule again?  :(  Or should I be ok?  Tomorrow will be day 4 of this new cold and I feel sooo much better today than I did yesterday.  I did take some NyQuil and DayQuil - will that affect anything if I feel 100% tomorrow and go for the tattoo?

Thanks!

If there's no fever and just congestion, I'd say you'd like do fine but you know you're body best in terms of recovery.  Time under the needle would play a role in the decision for me.  If you're expecting to do a shorter session then it's probably a non issue. If you're planning a 6-7 hour session those can be rough and take a toll on the body.

You should also think about your artist....if you're that sick and contagious he/she I'm sure would prefer that your reschedule.

Best of luck!

I once had a 3 hour session with e coli--didn't know I had it of course, and would definitely not have gone through with it if I'd known.

I'd say email your artist, explaining and being super apologetic.

If you feel better, go for it. Your body will recover.

He' guessed it would probably take 5-6 hours but also mentioned we could do shorter if I needed to so I don't think he'd be upset if I wanted to stop early.  And I'm definitely considering him as well, I don't want to possibly infect anyone which is why I cancelled last time when I was sick with a fever/chills/etc.  But since it's basically just annoying congestion this time I figured I'd get others opinions!  I think if I don't feel better in the morning I call him and see what he prefers.  :)

    • Just old-school baby!!!
    • First let me say I've never seen exactly that related to tattoos. Second, I am NOT a doctor, so take any advice with a grain of salt and follow it at your own risk. I do have something like that which appears on my face from time to time. After multiple visits to the dermatologist, which didn't fix it, I finally came up with my own treatment. Whenever it flairs up, I just wipe the area down with plain rubbing alcohol three or four times a day to keep it dry. That usually works within a couple of days. Again, I'm not a doctor, but I don't think it would hurt anything for you to try that. Good Luck.
    • Hey, I have a serious problem! I got a tattoo in Manila 4 weeks ago. The artist is very well known and is one of the most renowed. 2 day after tattooing, small pimples began to form on my thight an many at the tattoo. 3 days later i had fever at night (just at night). After that, the pimpels began to spread very quickly all over the body. (back stomach etc..) I have now been to 3 doctors and everyone is at a loss. The blood work is fine and with no anomalies. Antibiotic ointment and cortisone ointment did not help. Xyzall allergy tablets did not help either. When i took cortisone tablets, 90% of the pimpels disappeared on the tattoo, but not on the other parts of the body. Now that I´am no longer taking cortisone, the pimpels on the tattoo are starting to grow back again very quick. On the other parts of the skin , the pimpels are sometimes lighter and sometimes stronger. This can be change hourly. They don´t hurt and hardy lever itch. Of course I´am afraid of a tattoo allergie. Has anyone already had this problem ? Does anyone know what that could be ? I add photos: 1) Photo directly after tattooing. 2) 2 Photos with the pimpels after a week 3) After 3 weeks while taking cortisone. 4) Photo of the body on the left.
