Infected tattoo care?

Hi all! New here & I thought maybe I could get some advice? I got my 3rd tattoo on June 2nd, its a big thigh piece to match another one I got. It was a 7 hour session. My other one was 8.

The day after I got it, it just wouldn't stop bleeding, and a few days later pieces of the ink started falling out 😞

Went to a doctor and turns out it was an infection, so I'm on topical & oral antibiotics now, and I've seen some more doctors for a second opinion. We still don't know how it got infected, as I was super careful with the aftercare & did everything the same as all my other tattoos (washing, ointments, clean sheets, staying out of the sun, etc.)

But the thing is, I'm worried about the tattoo healing & being salvageable. After I started antibiotics, whole pieces of the tattooed skin started peeling off entirely & leaving just raw skin underneath with no ink. It looks like there's just holes in my leg 😢. I don't know what to think at this point, but it looks so dreadful.

My tattoo artist said he will touch it up but I can't help but worry still. He's done all 3 of my pieces now and I totally trust him, he's very talented and reputable. The only thing is that he forgot that I'm allergic to latex, and it slipped my mind to mention it again so we only realized after the piece was done, but I can't imagine that would have caused such a bad reaction?

Has anyone had something similar? Do you think it's still salvageable with a touch up? Is there something besides an infection here?

I'd really appreciate some peace of mind with this, thank you!

Attached the most recent photo of the tattoo & all its remaining gunk. Just a warning in advance.

All of the color fell out of one of my tattoos that got infected. It was months before he could go back to it because it wasn't fully healed. Just leave it for a while. Your artist can fix it up for you when you are fully healed.

I'm relieved that I'm not the only one thats had this. If you don't mind my asking, how long did it take yours to fully heal?

A couple of months. I went back after six weeks, and the needle just went straight through my skin. It was bizarre. After three or four more weeks, it was fine, and he was able to tattoo over it. You'll be OK. It's a pain, but your artist will sort it out, I'm sure.

    • First let me say I've never seen exactly that related to tattoos. Second, I am NOT a doctor, so take any advice with a grain of salt and follow it at your own risk. I do have something like that which appears on my face from time to time. After multiple visits to the dermatologist, which didn't fix it, I finally came up with my own treatment. Whenever it flairs up, I just wipe the area down with plain rubbing alcohol three or four times a day to keep it dry. That usually works within a couple of days. Again, I'm not a doctor, but I don't think it would hurt anything for you to try that. Good Luck.
    • Hey, I have a serious problem! I got a tattoo in Manila 4 weeks ago. The artist is very well known and is one of the most renowed. 2 day after tattooing, small pimples began to form on my thight an many at the tattoo. 3 days later i had fever at night (just at night). After that, the pimpels began to spread very quickly all over the body. (back stomach etc..) I have now been to 3 doctors and everyone is at a loss. The blood work is fine and with no anomalies. Antibiotic ointment and cortisone ointment did not help. Xyzall allergy tablets did not help either. When i took cortisone tablets, 90% of the pimpels disappeared on the tattoo, but not on the other parts of the body. Now that I´am no longer taking cortisone, the pimpels on the tattoo are starting to grow back again very quick. On the other parts of the skin , the pimpels are sometimes lighter and sometimes stronger. This can be change hourly. They don´t hurt and hardy lever itch. Of course I´am afraid of a tattoo allergie. Has anyone already had this problem ? Does anyone know what that could be ? I add photos: 1) Photo directly after tattooing. 2) 2 Photos with the pimpels after a week 3) After 3 weeks while taking cortisone. 4) Photo of the body on the left.
