Love Steve Boltz sentiments about "custom " work ,I want a design that everyone has cause its a tried and trusted classic .I was meaning to include custom in the irritating slang terms ,for me its right up there with free-hand .

It was never a decision, really. Started with the chest, crept down the arms and sides, now my legs have been taken over.
But I'd say a combination of Flores'/Petri's/Ursula's post. Only now that I have substantial coverage (compared to your average citizen) have I really made an attempt to both plan my remaining space and attempt to answer that question of how I am portraying myself. I think I said somewhere else, "I keep waking up with new ones," which is a joke but pretty true.

This tattoo was done on my boss Ross Ferrie by Pinky Yun in 1982. Ross always tells this story of getting this dragon along with many others of Pinky. Pinky basically dipped a toothipick in some black ink gave himself a few reference points and just started tattooing on his arm. Ross admits he wasn't so sure at the time but the end result turned out.
The other photo is Ross and Pinky in 1982 and a painting our friend Ashley did for Ross shortly after Pinky's death. Note Ashley painted this while in New Zealand only from what he remembered it looking like.

I think the best advice I could give a person is to go into tattoo shops and talk to artists. That is always the last place people go when getting a tattoo and really it should be the first and most of the time only place they need.

guys, it shouldn't be a shock to anyone that tattooers/tattoo people arn't normally the friendliest 'leave a smile on your face even thought i think you're a moron' type people... we tend to be 'i will show you with my facial expression and my words that i think you are asking a dumb question' type people, even to each other... so yeah... i don't think it's arrogance, i think it's a large group of people who have always been outsiders in some way and those type of people tend to be a little less friendly than your average soccer mom or that chubby nurse you see walking to work every day with a huge smile on her face... there's a reason we're all covered in tattoos and it's not because we're normal happy people

In my personal experience every I know that is heavily tattooed, are actually the nicer people I've met. It is usually the guy with 1 or 2 tattoos that got them for the "tough" factor that are usually the assholes. After I got my recent outline done I was approached at my job by a few collueges (I was sitting in my car with my pant leg up putting on some lotion) and they all started showing a lot of work done (very very much to my surprise!). Remember that these are the usual suit+tie crowd you see in the financial district in NYC.
In my opinion we are very much judged (and judge others) by how they appear whether we like it or not. We just have to remember that one "look" can have different associations for different people. I wear a 3-piece suit at work so people have my attention, but slip back into my metal shirts and jeans afterwards so I can become one again with my "normal" life.

Here's the link to the blackwork tribal thread Stewart referenced. Plus there are some other cool tribal ish threads and pictures just take a look around.....
I echo David and Stewart......find a good tattooer and let them have at it. Let us know if you decide you'd like some tattooer suggestions based on your location or upcoming travel.....
As for the other stuff written in here, for a second I had to check my url to make sure I was on LST and not the other tattoo forums...... With that being said this thread/user does seems a bit fishy as this image is on every other tattoo internet site as their icon but lets try to stay positive and not scare off potential new tattoo customers or LSTers. Lets try to educate them so they can get good tattoos and support good tattooers all the while learning how getting a tattoo should be done.
As to the new user ideas, Patrick/Gougetheeyes hit me up a few weeks ago with an idea that we will hopefully be incorporating sooner than later to help them navigate the site initially. If you have ideas on this please pm me or any of the other Team LST within the next week as we will be hashing it out at our upcoming meeting. Or feel free to use the LST Suggestions and Feedback area of the forum. Thanks everyone

I think arrogance and tattoos have been working pretty well together since the emergence of youth culture in the 1950's, probably earlier.
I think it's fine to poke light hearted fun at laziness and trolls. As long as constructive suggestions and criticism are also offered.
I don't think anyone here made fun of him because of the tribal. It was because of his laziness, the terrible design of the photoshopped reference and the troll-potential.
The good advice was for the benefit of anyone else who may check out this thread and on the off-chance Craftybigdog isn't a troll.
The difference (for me) between LST and other forums, apart from the fact it was started by people I respect, is that a hell of a lot of people here know what they are talking about and can offer rock-solid advice.
The tribal thread had some amazing tattooers suggested, with links to galeries and info on getting in touch with some of those guys.
For me, suffering fools and tattoos are like chalk and cheese.
Of course it's photoshop. He's not standing in front of anything. He's been terribly masked or cut out. SOmeone tried to add some depth-of-field by blurring one of his arms and shoulder. The design has been laid over with a transparency effect.
Someone did put some effort into designing the shapes and where they would be placed, but they didn't know shit about tribal tattoos and the way muscles move. Some of the things that make it obvious that the dude in front of the camera had blank skin are, among others: the curve nearest his neck would crease and wrinkle when his head was turned that way and the the same is true of the tiny point peaking out from his armpit.

So the OP writes that they finally found a tattoo they liked and its the 8th photo on the first page when you google "tribal tattoo. You don't think this person is a troll. OK
Sanctamony & tattoos aren't a good mix either.

By finally found that image, do you mean Googled tribal tattoo and found it on the first page. If you really want this tattoo I would suggest going into a shop or a few shops and talk to a tattooer about pricing. But I can tell you it will be expensive and take multiple sittings.
