  1. thanks for the responses! so far, baking has found it's way to me, and not vice versa. what started as a hobby, has now turned into an act of activism (i have participated in charity bakesales for over a year now, and hosted my first one a few months ago in which i raised $1500 in 4 hours on a rainy sunday), and now i'm living with someone who is an amazing baker (all by chance, didn't know him before, though i knew his work), and have an internship (also by chance). maybe i just need more time to see where that goes, and maybe i need to hold out a little longer.

though if that is the case, i doubt i'll be losing weight like Shawn did ;)

  2. Hey foks, i don't know what the tattoo scene is like in Mumbai, but that's where Shant is from. i don't think he's trying to be a scratcher, but maybe he's just generally interested in learning more about tattooing and doesn't have access to first hand information or people who can help him learn and understand? i think i remember him saying this in another post he made. so can anyone help him by recommending someone he could go talk to in person? i know there's google and the google button isn't broken, but i think a stellar recommendation from someone on here (if someone has one) would be great.

  3. Such an amazing source to hear all this great bay area history from!

And to Robin/MsRad- I went and made my first appointment at Temple about two/three months ago having never actually met Freddy and he was nothing but cool to me. There's a reason the shop phone number is 510-451-NICE and the appointment card says "Freddy Corbin's Temple Tattoo "Good Times"" on it...

i completely believe it. i went in there years ago to try to track down Chris Conn's info since he didn't have a website at the time and they gave me what they had and seemed very friendly. but it's like when i met Henry Rollins for my first time, even though i had heard nothing but good things from other people who had met him, i still was nervous because he's someone who's impacted/influenced my life. Freddy's work and reputation has also made an impression on me so it's the same sort of nervousness haha.

  4. Pat and i were just talking about the "mythic" quality surrounding certain artists, based on their involvement in the community and their work. Freddy Corbin has always been an artist with this quality to me, so it's funny how he talked about his own experiences with this. this interview kind of just broke that mythicness and let's me see him as just another awesome person and artist, so now i can finally walk over to Temple on a lunch break and make an appointment to get the lettering i want done by him without feeling like a lame-o nervous nerdy schmuck haha.

  5. Alanna, i did! i practiced for a whole day before (mainly because i needed an excuse to watch stuff on netflix for a day), but i couldn't get my bangs to do what i originally planned. so instead, i let them just hang and it worked out perfectly! i found instructions on vintage hairdos on youtube, i can send you the link to the one that inspired me if you're curious.

  6. i would be lying if i didn't say i was jealous. he's got a point, that the hair industry is aimed toward women, but there are some of us who are turned off by the whole spa and salon aspect. i really don't want to go spend a couple of hours in a chair while i listen to shitty music and have some "stylist" put product in my hair which i already requested not to have done and then pay over a $100 for a haircut that's just ok. i'd rather go to a place that cares about quality, but is also ready to just get down to business and cut my hair.

can you tell i'm bitter now that the girl who used to cut my hair moved away? maggie was the best. we just talked about tattoos and i got a great haircut for $40 (plus $10 for tip).

  7. thanks for the link Lochlan! i'm not sure that i can afford any of the shoes on there, but yes, i am interested in vegan heels. i wish my boyfriend was into me wearing shoes, but alas, he doesn't care. last year i wore 4 inch heels that gave me huge blisters on the bottom of my feet (thanks to also wearing tights) thinking it might be eye candy for him, but it was the least of his concerns. i NEVER wear heels. even to work, i wear Vans. i don't usually dress very feminine, so nights like these are an excuse to get to. Jackson would be more excited about me wearing camo pants with saucony's, and a Candiria tshirt than he would about me going to dinner wearing heels, stockings, and a dress. at this point, i'm dressing up for me.

and thanks Patrick for showing me your girl's blog! it's really nice and i may take you up on emailing her.

Gia and hambone, thanks for the suggestion! i've been to modcloth a few times, but most of the dresses there i like are sold out right now :(
