Maggie's body is covered in tattoos, and her parents have no idea. So we made a video for Maggie to show her parents the tattoos she's been hiding. Made by Bianca Giaever and This American Life.

I'll add a little something that may be useful but not likely an eye opener.
As a former bike racer who has had many nasty roadrash injuries over 3 decades, as well as a retired paramedic, the key to minimal scarring/best healing is to keep the damaged skin moist during the first 4 to 5 days of healing. Tegaderm/Saniderm is always a great bet.
Does this sound familiar? A fresh tattoo is similar to roadrash in the way the body reacts to it, just not as traumatic. Protecting it under the moist membrane allows everything to heal without drying out and scabbing, which we should always avoid.

I've only seen the first two episodes but really enjoy watching it. It isn't nearly as goofy and melodramatic as the US's Tattoo Nightmares. The artists have a great sense of humor and the junky tattoos that walk in are hilarious.
I found the first season on a youtube channel:

Welcome! I would start by finding a good artist in your area. If you let us know where you're located we can recommend some people.
As far as representing the bond between you two, you're completely wide open in terms of your choices. That you're both going to get the same tattoo, presumably together, speaks volumes about that bond and so I don't think it's necessary to try to force additional meaning into the tattoo. I tend to lean towards classic tattoo imagery so I could see something like a Homeward Bound clipper ship being a nice idea, but what appeals to you and your dad is really entirely up to you. If you have a shop nearby or within travelling distance that has nice, hand painted flash on the walls, you could pick something from the wall together. Lots of tattooers have sketchbooks full of designs they'd like to do, you both could go through one of those and find something you both like. The possibilities are nearly endless.

When my dad and I got tattooed together last year, we each chose different tattoos that appealed to us. The process of getting tattooed together was significant and memorable for us, even though we didn't choose the same aesthetic.
TLDR: get what you love, and enjoy the experience with your pops!
    And welcome @swask!

    @marley mission that is "shitty"
I have to get annual scopes now. A full colonoscopy is better than a flex-sig, because at least you're sedated. The sensation is totally different when you're fully awake. I always tell my doctor I'm going to get a tattoo for her. It'd have to be placed so it was legible when I'm on my left side.
Hope you enjoyed your night of a thousand waterfalls!

The police have been attacked lately by the media in the US. And yes, there are bad cops just like in anything else, but how many jobs put you in that situation daily? And they are often hated by those they protect. My prayers for your brother's family and friends.

Here's a fun fact: St. Marq taught Chris Blinston how to tattoo. So, due to Chris not wanting to send that twat with the mustache home, St. Marq left WAY sooner than he should have.

    Clever bird name! :D
A year ago, I was out in the back yard with the dogs when I see a green parakeet land on the porch. The seed feeder was empty and he was looking for food. I managed to keep the dogs back when the chihuahua walks right up to it and the bird didn't fly off. I do the same and reach down. It hops on my hand! Obviously a hand fed pet that was released or escaped and will die outside, being so tame.
I think the word has gotten out among animals that our house is a sanctuary (we have 5 adopted dogs and 3 cats). We bought him a female to keep him from getting lonely. He moved in on her right away, preening her face and playing Barry White records. Sadly, he no longer jumps on our hands and instead protects his woman.

Spent some fun time with the twin grandsons last weekend. They just turned 6.

I finally have had time to really enjoy the new acoustic, a Taylor 522 12-fret mahogany. It is by far the nicest guitar I've ever owned or will ever own. It sounds angelic to my ears. :)

The Tig reacted to pidjones in Tattoos as a luxury product / the things we are willing to put effort into
Everyone spends and lives at their own desired pace. I go to a college basketball game maybe once every five years, I rarely see a theater movie and it has been decades since I've bought concert tickets. I don't have an expensive car, and have over 98k miles on my '06 motorcycle (admittedly a fairly expensive one). All of my computers still run XP because they can't handle anything newer. Our house was paid off in the '90s and our kids are grown. I don't have any expensive hobbies and we have not traveled extensively except for work and missions. We are two years from retirement. Yes, I consider my tattoos a luxury, but they bring me pleasure both getting and having them. Something that will not fail as fast as the rest of me at this stage in life!

I had a tattoo healing nightmare the night after the first session on my back piece. I was being chased by a really slow-moving mob, but I couldn't run because every few steps my shirt would adhere to my back and I'd have to stop and very very gently pry it off before I could run again. Even in my sleep my priorities are fucked.

@hogg I think in these circumstances I am allowed to show off.
@SStu Who are we kidding, by the time this kid is old enough to get tattoos they're going to be horribly out of fashion and he's going to be embarrassed by his dad who was tacky enough to get a large portion of his body covered in them. Until that point, however, I hope he views me as some kind of walking and talking story book.
