Sorry i'm a back fiend so i'm all over this thread.More then from Jeff Zuck and the great Richard Stell. The piece from Richard Stell puts me of the mind of a t-shirt by Vivienne Westwood ,British designer;probably most relevant to this site as clothing the Sex Pistols

I got this Panther @ Tattoo City back in the late 80's. It really needs to be redone after too many years in the sun, but I cant bring myself to do it. I unfortunately don't believe Ed did this himself, but still the same it holds some nostalgia for me.

We are back from our latest road trip... San Angelo- West Texas Tat Con, and then instead of a long ass 9 hour drive we diverted to Dallas, and worked at Elm Street Tattoo, and then a day at SnS in Oak Cliff at Nick Ley's Shop, (little community), Bishop Arts District of Dallas...
San Angelo was good. Such an awesome line-up in the middle of no where Texas...
Dallas was refreshing for a change, normally it's kinda been a let down, like same shit different day let down.... But worked with Oliver and caught up on the latest news, etc... Then Stace, Richard's old business partner who owned the Piercing Business in the Old Pair O Dice in Dallas called Skin & Bones Body Piercing, (who I bought out, and into the shop) happened to fly into DFW from the east coast, where he now works at a little school called Yale... Yeah NBD, just Yale. And it was a pretty big weekend of Reunions...

Good Tattooing was had, Richard did a Ganesha piece on an inner arm, chick sat like a champ., got the outline, and shading done, but didn't finish, it was super involved... She's going to try to get up here when we open to finish it up...

Worked on some of Richard's old family friends, which was also really cool to meet this family, and Cameron Richard's son also managed to get out to the shop and hang out... Catch up, etc...

It was almost hard to leave, I say almost, cause we are getting used to "Tulsa Time", and our little place here in midtown. Which after being on the road 9 Months straight, after a year in and out of Jax, FL doing the road thing, we are so happy to have a place to call home, and our little Chinga Bean is too, as soon as I pulled up to the shop, he was like, YES, we do have a home, and knew exactly where we were all over again. Richard and I smiled. Yes, we're finally getting there.
And @ShawnPorter, swoon, if only you knew... But I guess you do... Thanks for being good to me after all this time. I guess weirdos always stick together. And I mean that in a loving way.

I think I would be remiss if I didn't add Junii Salmon to this list, considering she's a) a total bad ass, and b) she did my last couple of tattoos, and will be doing more! 'b)' of course is not a criteria for this list, but I thought I'd throw it out there ;).

I have a list somewhere around the house with close to 40-50 names of ladies that tattooed from the 20's thru the 70's!
There were a lot more women tattooing than I think most know about!
Names like Dee Brown and Bernice Steinhart from Portland, OR......(60's & 70's)
I think @Joe Shit added Debbie Lenz from Youngstown, OH to this list....I'll be finally adding something from her this Summer hopefully!
Not really sure if they are legendary though.......
My mentor (who is female) opened her shop here in Maryland in the 1970's and has been tattooing 30+ years!

    Yes, and No...
It's weird. One of those double edged things... I don't think Inkmasters is actually going to affect anyone that really loves this profession, and is good at it. I guess earlier in the thread I was super pollyanna and trying to do nothing but see the upside of things and rationalize it all, not sure why, I just support my friends.
But I guess out of school habits, I like to look at the same things over and try to argue a case against it... It's a writing tool...
We didn't just take part in it... this whole thing was filmed back in July, (that episode, and NO, Richard had no idea) He thought the kids would at least know how to put a tattoo on.... But when they were three hours into something and some of them didn't even have the outlines complete. It was heartbreaking, Richard doesn't have anxiety attacks, I do... but he had two, and freaked out wanting to fix each tattoo that he saw, because he felt morally compelled to give those vets good work in exchange for theirs.
No he didn't have a real idea of what was actually up, even the casting agents were a bit dishonest, I mean it's their job to get people on the set that would make for an interesting dynamic... And they were looking to get a rise, but it only raised vomit. I completely threw a fit the last day they shot... I stayed at the 700.00 a nite hotel they put us up in. And smoked in the non smoking room. I was pissed off thinking if we have to stay and fix shit tattoos, and put off the clients in San Antonio that were at the convention already (tattooers who love and cherish this), and waiting... I was going to have a little breakdown and probably leave NYC for TX... To get everything for the show in SA ready.
We had to fly into Austin pick our truck up, grab the rest of our booth setup from Tony's house drive down to SA setup all over again, on 5 hours sleep, and yeah, I can totally criticize it, I want to know the parts I like and didn't in an effort to change them maybe for the better later on, or at least have an objective standpoint on it...
And I am not a big user of Facebook, or Twitter too much anymore, I felt like if any place was good to kinda let loose, and be open regarding our opinions, experiences around this, or any tattoo type of topic, I would rather post up here, I thought. Safe zone.
The entire show isn't 100% fucked up, and just a portion. I have been involved in some fucked up stuff before, far worse on a couple moral standpoints. It's early on in the Tattoo TV thing, I guess I just would like to maybe contribute constructive criticism somewhere, cause I know a few people look at these threads, and maybe just maybe they would take a few of the hints dropped here.
Not snide, just honest... The way it should be.
