I got the first part of my phoenix rising tattoo this past weekend. It was my first tattoo. We sat for 5 hours and it's safe to say I have the bug and can't wait for more big pieces.
I will be going to finish up with the coloring (red, yellow , orange) for the flames with blue/purple clouds beyond for some dimension.

I kinda only like getting tattooed by Fast tattooers. It's efficiency. Take your time with the drawing, then bust that tat out. I personally think it says a lot about a tattooer that can tattoo Good, and fast. It's like Illegal graffiti writers versus permission wall guys. One is working on the fly with the cops possibly breathing down their neck. One is taking his sweet time, looking at his sketchbook. That raw, real shit is always gonna be king in my book. Anyway. haven't seen the show. But I like the time limit thing. It will separate the hustlers from the fartists.

Drench the fresh tattoo in Neosporin as soon as the artist finishes. Hahahaha just kidding.
For reals though Aquaphor is the shit. It's made by Eucerin- the same company Lochlan is recommending lotion from- but it has more of a consistency of Vaseline than lotion. I do the standard wash a couple hours after (I've found the exact time isn't crucial to the healing process for me so don't sweat it if you rinse off 6 hours later or 2 hours later) and then apply a thin layer of Aquaphor. It'll look really funky about an hour after application so I usually take that as a cue to dab off the excess with a clean paper towel. Then just reapply as necessary. Personally, it makes my scabs much thinner and flakier and less likely to get infected/stick/fall out.

All tattoos scab. It's part of the healing process. It sounds to me like you're putting lotion on to often. Sensitive skin is rarely the problem that causes fading/scabbing/anything else. There's also a pretty big chance you're just going to a shitty artist.

Oh how I would love to do that! I have been trying to get the hell out of the business but I keep getting more money. I would love to drop the suit and tie, I even promised myself back in my punk days that I would rather die than wear a businessman's noose around my neck, but I guess I lied to myself. I still laugh when people at work talk about all those "tattooed punks", and how they will never get a <job, girl, etc, etc>. Maybe I can do some good as a tattooed executive type, break the mold a little and open some eyes!

I wouldn't worry too much. I don't think any great harm is going to happen to your tattoo if it gets a little dry. It's part of the natural healing process.
I use a very small amount of Aquaphor the first few days then I switch to E45 cream. I tend to put a little bit more cream on the tattoo after it has "flaked" to counter the itchyness, caused by the tattooed area drying out. From what I've been told and through personal experience lotions do nothing to aid the healing process, your own body will take care of that part.
Basically I look at a tattoo as an open wound. Now if I had an open wound due to an injury the last thing I would be doing is constantly putting lotion on it. The wound has to dry out, to a certain extent, in order to heal.
Personaly I use creams and lotions to make the tattooed area feel a bit a little more comfortable during the healing process. If you are sufffering like crazy from itchyness you are probobly stuck with the stripping off every so often to put on some lotion as your clothes will absorb most of it during the day.

Also it doesn't take dreaming it takes motivation. Save money, contact and try and get tattooed. Travelling might be in order. I've been tattooed by some damn good artists and all it took was some communication. They are not unapproachable!

I just posted my anti-tattoo school idea on my blog Devil City Press Maybe you guys could tell me what you think and even jump in. I don't know Ami but I know there's lots of people out there who do. I think he needs to feel some heat and stand up for what's right. He's cashed in handsomely on tattooing and I feel like he owes a debt to the industry now in it's time of need. He needs to tell TLC that this show is wrong. They don't understand why it's wrong and they're not going to listen to us. Anyone who values tattooing that's getting a paycheck from TLC should be speaking up right now.

i started at 24, and i'm so glad i waited until then. i remember being 16 and wanting strength tattooed across my shoulders. it's embarrassing enough just admitting i wanted to get that when i was 16.
but, yeah, i'm really glad i waited and was able to research tattooers that i liked and understand which style of tattoos i liked.

Doesn't look too shabby, but being a perfectionist myself, I'm going to have to examine it much more closely before I can render an opinion...
