Casper got a reaction from Kate1939 in Dropping the Bomb, how your parents found out about your first tattoo!
when I was growing up my mother was totally against piercings of any kind so when i went to Virginia beach on spring break my senior year I decided I was going to get a tattoo in memory of my cousin who was more like a brother to me that passed away when i was 14, it was on a whim tattoo just went to a shop and found a cross told him what I wanted and he made it happen. I told my mother I had just gotten my ear and nipple pierced (knowing she hated that worse) I used this to fire her up and when I got home and she was threatening to rip out my piercings if i did not remove them myself I casually showed her no part of my body had been pierced. she said that it was a terrible joke and she was upset. I then proceeded to remove my shirt and said "well if your already upset and were prepared for the worst... here is my tattoo".
she was actually happy, she liked my premise, she thought it was tasteful and thoughtful and a good way to remember a person very dear to me!

I got to tackle the official "#1 worst portrait tattoo in the world" today. I'm sure you've all seen it a million times online, as had I. I couldn't believe my eyes when this guy walked in and showed me this project. I think my jaw literally hit the floor. He went on to tell me the story behind the portrait; He had just married his beautiful wife and not even three months afterwards she was killed in a horrible house fire accident leaving him to raise their three children alone. Shortly after he went to a local tattoo studio to memorialize his wife and was left with this abomination. He later returned to that studio for one more session, thinking that perhaps "he had done something wrong in the healing of the tattoo" and they butchered it even more the second time. Finally, he drove all the way to my studio, Empire Ink, just to meet me and to see what his options were. Touched by his story, I gifted the entire project to him for free. Now he has closure and I have an amazing story to add to my portfolio!

5 hour session of my angel of death back piece cover. started on the 16th and hopefully will finish on the 16th of march, coming along nicely... the scene will be a graveyard on my left side and a tree on the right, tombstones in the graveyard with d.o.b. and d.o.d. of my grandfather and cousin and then of course some added clouds to help cover up the massacre at the top of my back

One of the nice things about living someplace with long and harsh winters is that we don't have little fuckers like that guy around.

Well I did too, but I'm a diverse connoisseur of todays youth culture. Like tattoos, I'm trying not to show my age. I still don't understand Kesha, however.

Downtown Detroit is beautiful. Or is that ghetto-fabulous?! Either way, nothing wrong with it. I'd sooner walk Grand River to Telegraph from Washington Boul to Farmington Hills than walk up Halsted from 79th to 47th in the Chi, and I grew-up on 31st St.! People have heard so many urban legends about Detroit that they allow them to color their thinking. Do it have ghetto? Oh yeah. Is it one huge urban wasteland populated by flesh-eating crack-zombies? No. At least, not most of it.
Same with Scary Gary. Everyone thinks of it way up ojn the list of dysfunctional cities, and it is, really, much worse than Detroit, but there's still a lot of kool things going on there, and good places to be. If you know how. I highly recommend Mr. Kenny's Chicken on Broadway, down around 62nd St., on the edge of Merrilville.

While I can relate to being pissed off about general rudeness, I feel some things tattooists need to lighten up on. Basically being unknowledgable about tattoos in general, asking questions we have heard a million times before, bringing references on phones, wanting stuff that is too detailed or won't work. A gentle approach goes a long way.
The way I look at it, I patronize a lot of business where I don't know jack, and I don't appreciate being treated like an idiot for not being in the know. A good example is when I went back to my local print shop. I was asking why I couldn't open a certain file which was a flash sheet I had scanned to a tiff file. The print shop guy snapped at me "ITS A MULTI PAGE TIFF FILE!! YOU CAN'T OPEN IT UNLESS YOU HAVE PHOTOSHOP!!" I am like ok, can you change it to a file that I can open? Again snappage "I CAN'T DO THAT! YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE ORIGINAL IMAGE!" I am like "ok, I have that, could you please scan it again?". I also had them saved as PDFs for easy printing. So he was like "I am just going to change these PDFs into JPEGS". I said I would prefer to have both, as the PDFs print original size and all. Even more snappage " UNLESS YOU ARE GOING TO PRINT THEM OUT, THERE IS NO USE". I calmly explain to him that they are commercial art, of course I am going to print them out. Then I ask if I have the jpegs and alter them, they can be saved into PDFs again, right? More snappage "ONLY IF YOU HAVE PHOTOSHOP!" The guy was literally yelling at me. Needless to say, I won't be doing business there again.
Think about that the next time a customer says asks about things that seem readily apparent to you. A lot of times people are not trying to be difficult. You are the expert, not them. Try and take this into consideration.
