  1. Thw whole "women have higher pain tolerances than men" thing is total balls - It has been debunked time and time again. Its just an urban myth due to the whole childbirth thing. Google it.

What I have mainly found is that there is no correlation between men and women when getting tattooed - It's all about the individual. I have seen some women scream the house down and cry their eyes out for a very small tattoo in an easy area, I have seen some men sit and get their ribs and crotch carved up by a VERY heavy handed artist for eight hours without a single complaint. I have also seen some men who cant sit still for ten minutes at a time due to the pain, and some women who fall asleep because the pain just doesnt affect them in any way whatsoever. Everyone is different!!!

  2. My backpiece experience is scheduled to begin in February 2015. :D

Exciting! Who are you going with??

Nevermind, I just saw you on Rubendalls instagram haha, nice one man, respect for going the extra mile for an appointment! I think its awesome he does it like that, it really does weed out the people who are serious from those who arent really bothered.

  3. Personally, Yes. I have a low pain threshold on certain parts of my body. Don't get me wrong, popping a few pills will not numb the pain in any way. It just takes the edge off and makes the process more bearable. When Rubendall looked at my back and said, "You are going to hate me today", I knew the painkillers would come in handy. Additionally, I hate taking meds and the stuff I had (Vicodin) leaves you with a nasty feeling of nausea if there's no pain for it to mitigate.

I'm the same, some areas of my body are just agony, I am starting my back soon, and I think I will need some medication to help me through...I think lower back and upper ass will be awful!

  4. LOL, I was at a truck stop on my way home after work and picked up a random tattoo magazine to flip through, and guess what? I spotted ANOTHER rip-off of the Shige tattoo! This one was from Italy! The cherry blossoms had been changed to small peonies.

Is there any way you could put up a photo of it? I would love to collect as many imitations of this tattoo as I can! Cheers!

By the way, I am always shocked when magazines publish rip-off tattoos - I guess there's no way to tell which is original and which is fake with the amount of photos they get sent...

  5. Unbelievable. I wonder how many more copies there are out there? I have seen a lot of large hannya mask backpieces recently that take obvious reference from the original, but they change it up, they are completely redrawn and redesigned, they use different elements and ideas. There are people who would say it is wrong to even use someone else's idea (In this case, a large hannya mask), but I disagree, you can always take a concept and try and change and improve it, that's how tattooing grows, artists who just trace aren't helping anything!

  6. We take £20 deposit per hour the customer is booking - so 5 hours would be £100 deposit. £40 minimum deposit however. Non-refundable. 48 hours to rearrange any appointment or they lose the deposit, unless in very specific circumstances where the space can definitely be filled, so the artists time is not wasted. No bookings without a deposit, ever, unless its short notice and a VERY reliable, long term customer. Deposit comes off the final price of the tattoo.

  7. It is funny that the 3rd picture even copied those two dark spirals on the shoulders that look like the might have been existing work that Shige had to work around. (please correct me if I'm wrong)

No I think you are absolutely right! Its also hilarious when artists copy photos of tattoos that are distorted due to the curve of the body, but they copy it straight, distortion and all. It looks absolutely ridiculous.

  8. This backpiece by Shige, Yellowblaze, is one of my favourite tattoos. I loved it the second I saw it, the scale of the design, the placement, the execution, its all fantastic. However it seems like many other people also loved this design and wished they had it, but instead of taking reference from it, creating something new, adapting the design, they just copied it, line for line.

This isn't the only tattoo I have seen copied line for line - I am sure it happens all the time. I KNOW it happens all the time. I also saw it happen to a member here who had a beautiful dragon done by Shige, his tattoo was copied by a Korean artist called Gen. Every time I see it happen it makes me disillusioned - I have met artists who are genuinely proud to reproduce other peoples work, and see no problem with it. They say "If its on the internet, its fair game". I HATE that kind of attitude. It hasn't happened to any of my tattoos, but I know it would make me angry.

Is imitation the sincerest form of flattery, or is this unforgivable plagiarism?

  9. "Yeah, I am just going to meet up with a tattoo artist who I have known for awhile, who has tattooed me before and will probably tattoo me again to talk about ideas for the tattoos he will do for me in the future".

"I'm meeting up with my tattoo artist to discuss ideas".
