Probably higher chance in catching heavy metal poisoning from listening to too much Judas Priest. How much Priest is too much Priest?
    This much.

It sounds like you've been reading the Wikipedia article on tattoo ink, among other things. I looked at the 2 sources cited regarding the ingredients in ink & they basically say that very little is understood about how to measure "exposure" to ingredients when someone has a tattoo, specifically with regards to the lead content in tattoos. It sounds like it might potentially make a small difference over the long term but couldn't lead to anything like poisoning.
I'm personally more concerned about hormones in the food I'm eating and stuff like that.

Plenty of people are concerned about tattoo ink ingredients. The government for one. My ex worked for the FDA, and was about to test a supply of tattoo ink, from an unnamed company, for heavy metals before we broke up. Now, I don't think that there's any danger in tattoo ink, especially good tattoo ink, which is used by most good tattooers, but suffice to say that you're not an idiot for being concerned about what's going into your body; however, it is a little irrational to assume that the yellow ink that's already in your leg wouldn't have caused a reaction already.

In my opinion a troll is somebody who upsets people on purpose. Some of the people here seem to lack the social skills to avoid accidentally insulting people. However the outcome is the same either way: people are upset.
I have to say this forum is probably the only forum I've been on that feels this strongly about women's rights without actually being a feminist forum, and that's pretty cool.

It's basically laboratory grade dirt; no, ink companies won't tell you what's in it if you can even get them on the phone; and as far as cadmium poisoning, not gonna happen don't worry. You will not get poisoned from a tattoo.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here, I don't have a problem with this blog. I sometimes enjoy seeing model-types with tattoos, even if there is too much focus on the model's body and not enough on the tattoo. I think tattoos need to be seen on the body in order to be fully appreciated, and it's nice to see good quality photographs that actually put the tattoo in it's context. I see too many photos on the internet of great tattoos photographed super close up with and illuminated by the flash of a cell phone camera. I'm not interested in tattoos for the purpose of looking sexy either but I'm not going to judge other people's motivations for getting a tattoo or liking one. If they think it's just a decoration for their thigh, that's fine, as long as the tattoo itself doesn't look horrible. I've been an overweight female my whole life and I'm not a stranger to insecurity, but at this point in my life I can look at skinny photoshopped people without thinking I'm supposed to look exactly like them.

I'm sitting here looking through the Fuck Yeah! Hipster Tattoos tumblr, and ask (my husband) why so many people get tattoos of trees on their arms, and also remarking that I saw a girl on the subway with "Agape" tattooed, upside down, in script, on her wrist today (it took me several minutes to figure out what word was tattooed on her wrist, it was super odd looking.) My husband comes over, looks at the computer screen, and says, "well, because they (the trees) fit the space really well. Why do you have two fish with fangs on your thigh?" Touche.

    Hey everyone!
I've been lurking the site for a couple of days and decided I should halt the procrastination. Anyway here my little tattoo intro
My name is Mike. I guess by the terms used on the site I'd be a collector. I got hooked on Japanese tattooing at the beginning of 2011. After 6 months of research and gleaning whatever information I could from the internet I ended up flying to Japan and showing up at the doorstep of Horimitsu in Ikebukuro ( I should mention it was both my first tattoo and first trip to japan). It turned into a cool adventure while my tattoo still isn't finished I've been back and forth to Japan with Mitsu even coming to Toronto twice. I even ended up getting tattooed at a japanese convention and going on the horitoshi family's yearly vacation. Now I'm more hooked than ever.
Anyway here are some crap self taken pics:

For those who want to know what Horimitsu is like, I found this. It's an interesting story of getting tattooed by him before the digital age when you could just Google everything, and it's written by somebody who actually speaks Japanese.

Could someone briefly summarise the Bubbleberry saga? I searched for him, and found a (probably fake) wife with a dubious apprenticeship, an "interesting" avatar and a cryptic reference to something no-one will talk about anymore, possibly related to a dvd. It's piqued my interest...

It's funny - I don't disagree with you, but when I saw those thigh tattoos I was mesmerized. I had two thoughts - 1) I wish I was a lot younger so I could get a tattoo like that that looked so awesome on young perfect white thigh skin (although I didn't have those legs when I was 20!), and 2) maybe these tattoos are keeping these young kids out of the sun and there will be a lot less skin cancer!
So odd that skin cancer popped immediately to my head as an advantage. Gettin' old I guess.

For me personally, I was mostly pain free by about day 5. For the first 2 or 3 days, every time you go to stand up, it feels like your leg has the worst bruise imaginable and someone is squeezing it as tight as they possibly can. My artist warned me this would happen when we did my first lower leg one, but I didn't really know what he meant. So I kind of hopped out of bed the next morning and was instantly crippled by the pain and had to sit down again. For those first couple days, it takes me a good few minutes to stand up and get moving and then I'm limping everywhere. It seems to be the longer your leg stays elevated, the worse it gets when you do stand up...but if you don't elevate your leg, it swells up like a balloon. Kind of a lose-lose outcome.
I usually only give myself about a day to recover and head back to work when I'm still in the hobbling stages. Luckily my job is mostly sitting, so I can tough it out. I wouldn't dream of going back to work so soon on a job that's primarily standing...

My calf tattoo is healing rather quickly, despite the horrible pain for the first couple of days. I'm on day 5 and I have no pain and I never had any itchiness. Probably has something to do with it being tebori and not a regular tattoo. I just hope when the scabs come off it still has its color.
