I have been talking about getting an old tribal tattoo covered for years and I am finally going to get that done this Friday. I had been bouncing between a panther vs wolf, both with daggers for some time now. I decided on getting a wolf/dagger combo and then letting the artist decided on anything else needed to cover the tattoo. I asked him to either add a snake, roses or really anything he saw fit. I will post up some pictures Friday.

Hi everyone I am back. I love the work Nick Colella did for me over the winter based upon the recommendation given here. Now I want to do a cover up on my other arm. I have a tribal piece, like a half band around my arm I got 20 years ago when it was just getting popular, I was 18, and pointed and said this one on printed flash ?. I am always embarrassed of this tattoo. So I was hoping for a Japanese themed half with roses and possibly a Koi or something along those lines. My other arm is filled with random personal meaning tattoos and would like to theme my other arm.
I want to plan a session in a couple months so I would like to start booking an appointment with an artist. I am not sure if Japanese is a style Nick does, as I haven't really ever seen any art or tattoos in that style from him. I will ask him regardless though.
I am wondering if someone knows of an artist that specializes in the Japanese style here in Chicago. Would love to look at some portfolios and I respect the opinions of the members on this forum. Thank you so much.

Hi Harry,
Thanks for the kind words. I was put off quite a bit on my first thread, i almost deleted my account. But I stepped back and tried to learn why everyone had such a strong response. I started reading old threads and really informed myself. I really was "ignorant" to the entire tattoo world before coming here. I am so glad I didn't leave and that so many people took the time to answer my questions via Pm as well. People looked at potential artists and taught me why some were better than others. I am completely grateful for this. Not only did I get great advice that helped me, my wife benefitted as well cause she used Great Lakes Tattoo as well. Once again, thanks to everyone and Merry Christmas!

Well thankfully I went with the advice from all the veterans here. I chose to use Nick Colella. I posted this elsewhere but wanted to keep my progress all in one thread. The pictures below are where I am at and go for color on October 25th. I am so excited I can't wait. I do have one dilemma, I am not sure if I should try to get one more image in the spot between the racing flag and dogs ear in the last picture. I don't really have anything else in mind for this arm and looked at daggers, roses etc and don't think they will mesh will the other tattoos on my arm. I plan n asking Nick his opinion too. When I left, we planned on 2 more sessions. One for color the other for filler. So I have to decide fairly quickly what to do. Picture before last is the filler I planned on asking for. Thanks again guys, great advice!

My wife also loves our dog very much. Our dog is a major part of our life, he pretty much influenced us to better ourselves. For my wife, our dog got her to start running. They run 5-8 miles a a day together and my wife now runs marathons. So what we did was buy an ink pad and took our rottweilers paw print. She then had a 26.2 inscribed in the middle of it which is what a marathon length is. Here is a picture, it was done by Erik Gillespie. He did an amazing job, looks exactly like the paw print we gave to him.
