My back will be done by Bonel (Instagram) of Corazon Santo in The Netherlands, he also did both my sleeves.

I took the survey, out of consideration of what @deadsp0t said. That said, the survey was far lacking in it's ability to gather information from anyone who isn't getting tattooed for the Google/Pinterest flash reasons. I left a comment in the final page informing Charlotte as such, in what I felt were blunt, yet polite terms. I mainly did this so she would see it, because there's a good chance she won't be part of the discourse here beyond one or two posts.
"Try to go out into the world of tattoos. Go to tattoo shops and learn a bit. Perhaps, even get tattooed a few times as part of your research. Anthropologists should immerse themselves in a culture to learn about it, right? I encourage you to do the same."

I am new to tattoo's and the choice of artists in NYC is overwhelming. Seems like the well known popular artists each have their preferred styles, subjects and turn down work if it doesn't interest them ?
Seeing Yoni's work, it looked like his style fit what I am looking for and I believe he has a well established reputation for quality tattoos. Easy to reach and quick to consult. Booked for April.
I did not find much information about Cheo Park and his background, but his tattoos look great to my amateur eyes. Maybe he is new to NYC, flying under the radar, among the many quality artists in NYC not getting a lot of attention or I am easily impressed since I am new. He was easy to reach and consult. Booked in 2 weeks.

Anderson Luna never responded. Found another artist, Cheo Park at East Side Ink. He will be doing a whale shark on my left shoulder.
I like Anderson's work and I might persue him again in the future. Just was not in the mood to chase him down for what I am currently looking to have done. Judging from his instagram page, it looks like lady heads are his preference, which is not what I am looking for right now.

Researching local NYC artists and found this Lady head by Jessica Mascitti. I like the details, the clear red band over the eyes and think the girl looks great.

Finished up this piece with Martin Lacasse at Olde City Tattoo in Philly. Based off of a Yoshitoshi print from 28 Famous Murders With Verse. Couldn't be happier.

I think Jellyfish tattoos a pretty cool. A lot of them that I see though remind me of Ernst Haeckel's paintings. For those who don't know who on earth he was, he was a biologist/artist and whole load of other things around the end of the 19th start of the 20th century. Anyway I've put some of his paintings below so that you can see what I mean about the similarity in between his work and jellyfish tattoos. It might just be me seeing similarities that aren't really there but especially the picture with the coloured jellyfish on it I feel has been referenced a lot. Which is great because it's awesome.

Someone else posted work by Anderson Luna. Here are a few more. My wife is not the jealous type, but I don't think she would like it if I got a tattoo of a woman. Never the less, Anderson's work is very impressive.

I have plenty of bare skin so maybe I'll get a tattoo from both. Yoni responded to my email pretty fast. Have a consult mtg with him next Monday. Still haven't heard from Anderson. I was surprised to find out Anderson has only been tattooing since 2007. To my amateur eyes, his work looks amazing. Can't imagine how good his future stuff will be as he gains more tattoo experience.
