My wife has no tattoos. She says she doesn't care that I'm getting them but I kind of feel like a freak around her too.It seems like she doesn't notice them at all.I don't think she likes them.

I retired from the Army after 26 years of active duty - thank you and your husband for your service!
I am on the distant end of the age timeline here I think. My wife and I have been married for over 41 years - and I just got my first tattoo 10 days ago. Although I'd thought about it for years, I didn't for many reasons. Several weeks ago, after watching the rash of deaths in musicians in my generation, I decided I wanted to make it happen. My wife and I were talking one day and she mentioned what she wanted for her birthday (coming up in a few days). As I always have done, I agreed and she asked me what I wanted. Her initial reaction was shock...but within seconds she said OK. She asked me if I had any idea what I wanted and, since I'd already researched it, I showed her. She said to go for it.
Today, when I got home from work she mentioned she'd been talking with a group of people from our church, and the topic of my tattoo came up. No one was upset and when they asked Lynn why she said yes, she told them that for our entire marriage every time she wanted to change her hair style or do something different I always told her to do it - that what was important was what made her happy.
Married life isn't always fun and games - when people ask us how long we've been married I will normally respond with "24 happy years.....out of 41 total. That's a pretty good batting average." We were married at age 19 and oyr son was born 2 weeks after my wife turned 20 and 1 day after I did. The odds of making it were not in our favor. Supporting each other, letting each other have their own personality and interests isn't always easy but I think it is what helped keep us together and in love.
So, I now have one tattoo...will be getting more. My wife has talked about it sometimes, but I don't think she will ever do it. But, that's OK - it's her decision and it's about her body and I am OK with that.
That is so much like my story I can't believe it.I was in the Navy though. The rest of the story makes us sound like twins. After four years with one tattoo I started getting more.Still at it.Im getting a gypsy girl in three days.

Well my PTSD is mostly handled well by the little pill. Can't seem to talk about it which most doctors believe is needed. One said I'm just the best at avoidance and so long as it doesn't mean I avoid life as a whole than its fine if I want to avoid (wish that Doctor was still working, he was the best for me).
Anyway thanks for the reply. Ryan is awesome but doesn't have quite the feel I'm looking for.

Oh that little pill.... Ran out a few weeks ago and hate my new doctor. I really need to call VA and ask for a new one. I've been way too jumpy last several days but this new doctor can't get it thru her head that I don't need a mommy who's all "aw, you poor thing, tell me all about it". Whatever! Give me my pills and ask me if I need anything, accept my "no" and move on.
It's not good to just stop the medication.Go to the VA and tell them you need to see a Doctor who will prescribe what you need.

TBI is not the same as PTSD.They are not treated the same way.I have PTSD from two tours in Vietnam.I have been going to therapy, and it helps. That and a little pill.

An independent Non-Denominational Christian Church.
Thanks,I'm a Baptist Deacon.I teach adult Bible study.
My Pastor doesn't know I have tattoos.I don't know if he would approve or not.Not that that would matter to me.

I'm a pastor and tattoos have become perfectly fine in of our field, depending on the denomination. Sometimes depends on the specific church leadership preferences as well.
Pastor in what kind of church?

Using aquaphor for first five days. Now switching to fragrance free lotions like Aveeno or Lubriderm. We happened to have all these lotions in our house for the babies so I'm just using what we have.
This is what works for me.

I see so many posts here about religious parents.Dont assume they all hate tattoos.I am a religious parent.I have three kids,I teach an adult Bible study class, and I have many tattoos. There are worse things than being tattooed.Jesus still loves us all.

I'm 67.I was getting my forearm tattooed three weeks ago.The artist said I have the worst skin he's tattooed in his twenty six years of tattooing.I told him I probably almost waited too long to get tattooed. He agreed,he said the skin gets thin in some places. But,he added guys my age with tattoos are going to be jealous of me because mine will look better than their old ones.
