I figured I'd document my laser sessions here for those that would like to follow along. The Woman doing it is the Physicians Assistant for a Dermatologist near my house. At my consultation she said she could do half at a time and today she said the reason was that if there was a negative reaction it would be on only half of the area rather than the whole thing. Today she said as long as this goes well she could probably do the whole thing in one session and after todays session it doesn't seem like it should be a problem, she did much more than half today. They use the Medlite C6 which is, from what I understand, one of the best lasers on the market. I'm happy with the outcome so far, the skin isn't broken or anything and there's no blistering. My wife got something removed by another Dermatologist on her finger and it blistered and bled like a motherfucker. I'm not sure if she could have hit it harder today but I'd rather she not and not have it be a big bloody mess. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll do what I can to answer :D Here's before... And after todays session which I understand will lighten more over the next 6 weeks as my body absorbs the ink... I'm getting the rest done on the 7th and from there I'll go back as my bank account allows me...

I've got both shins done as of right now and have an appt on the 20th to add a new piece to my leg, the part I'm having trouble with is placement. I know I want it on the inside of my leg on the upper portion of my calf (it's not going to be too big). I guess my concern is having the rest of the tattoos on that leg look to evenly place and not random and it looking kind of dull. Is there a way to go about filling around a shin tattoo or if anyone else started out with a tattoo on your shin, how did you go about filling the rest of your lower leg?

Hi all, I was wondering what your opinions were when it comes to filling in the spaces between old school style tattoos? Stars and dots, shading or let each piece stand on it`s own? Any photos of what you love or hate would be appreciated. Have a good one.

As I mentioned in my earlier posts I've been doing a lot of thinking about what I'd like to get tattoo-wise in future (I currently have none) and am really the kind of guy who plans all his moves out in advance. I love japanese-style tattoos and have thought about a Japanese chest plate and half-3/4 sleeve. This would have no real meaning for me, I just love the art. I've also been thinking about stuff that would have more meaning for me and been thinking about maybe a portrait of my Grandmother, a rose for my Mum, and maybe other bits a pieces for other people etc. Being a bit of a symmetry freak I'd want the same coverage on the other arm. So... what I'm wondering is if the two different styles are going to look ok together, or if they'll clash really badly and just look wrong? Does anyone have any photo examples of where this kind of mix has worked successfully? Thanks!:)

Hi Ladies and Gents I am after some help sourcing some ideas and images of the phoenix. I have obviously searched the internet for reference but it just throws up the same half dozen designs. I am really looking for a fantasy type image to go with a dragon face. I prefer the faces on the fantasy phoenix compared to the chicken like ones on other designs. Any help or a point in the right direction for literature/images would be great. Thanking you in advance.

So it looks like I have finially decided what to finish my right calf off with. Geometric pattern style stuff. I have been lurking through some Thomas Hooper stuff and similar (propbably going with Hooper). So anyone have any good stuff to post or also what do you guys think for the space I am working with. http://kristiandmaggie.com/k/100_2291.JPG http://kristiandmaggie.com/k/100_2292.JPG please don't mind the werewolf hair or razor cuts (not very experienced at shaving my legs)

I've read a couple threads on the subject of roses and I'm just curious, do you guys feel there's a right or wrong way to draw or tattoo them? I've seen some really in depth roses and then there's the simpler looking traditional ones with less pedal Reason I ask is because I've got a traditional rose on my arm with stem and a girl in class asked me if it was a hibiscus (in a snooty attitude like "whys that on your arm") which I guess it's not a realistic rose, but rather representational which is how the artist put it. I apologize if this is a dumb question or anything.

After watching the new tattoo age video of Freddy and recently looking at the 222 Tattoo Shop thread I think we need a Temple Tattoo thread. Also for good measures let's make Tattoo 13 (Freddy's other shop with good tattooers as well) in the mix....For those who haven't seen it here is the interview Scott Sylvia did with Freddy Corbin for LST For me Temple Tattoo is where @Scott Sylvia outlined and did some of the shading on my lower left arm of a cobra with a Dia De Los Muertos mask on wrapped around a sacred heart. Also Freddy Corbin did the lettering on my collar bone which I've mentioned in the lettering thread was impressive to see him make a few lines on my collar then take the pen and start writing some amazing script straight on where within a few minutes said "take a look in the mirror", the man is impressive. But overall when I think of Temple I think of hanging out laughing with friends, after hours smoking inside, and shooting the shit. The beautiful religious art, altars, flash with very good and friendly tattooers inside. I remember in the early days trying to find something to eat close by on the weekends was a pain in the ass as the block/area used to be like a zombie ghost town on the weekends. For Tattoo Thirteen I instantly think of Chummy Alexanian and Hector Fong as well as the same vibe/atmosphere as Temple. Plus the infamous Friday the Thirteenth parties there. I've only been tattooed once there and it was by Freddy at one of the parties. I had a colleague with Parkinson's want to get tattooed so I gave him a list of tattoo shops to checkout and he decided on here so I went with him and Sonju tattooed him. The experience was great and Sonju was very patient and gave him a great tattoo which I can only imagine is no easy job in that situation and the uncontrollable moving. Lets hear your stories........

My first idea for a tattoo (at 17) was a tribal scorpion with my birthday worked into it. Needless to say, I'm glad I chose to wait, but I'm still interested in seeing good traditional scorpions, spiders, flies, centipedes, wasps, etc.

Anyone have experience with tattoos with cross hatch shading done? I am planning a tattoo based on "Dance of Death" (medieval woodcuttings) which involves cross hatch style shading. Anyone have an idea if this style holds up well in tattoos, especially after a few years blending into each other. Example (see avatar or below)

So I have been reading all the threads I can find and still need some help. I am trying to plan half a body suit, elbow to knee on my right side. I have my half sleeve and chest done now and ribs are next, I think? So my first problem is this, I want to collect from a few different tattooers but I want everything 'tied in' do you all think this will be an issue? Second is the planning part... where the hell do I start? I don't mean the design of the tattoo but I guess the placement of the entire thing. I see a few different sections, I want two tigers on my ribs. I think there should be enough room for that. Something else on my front hip area, like a Hannya mask or something. Something else on my ass and hip area, I don't know what then either one big design on my leg or maybe two, front and back Which leaves my back open and maybe the upper part of my shoulder, which I was going to get a Koi on this summer. Does this sound reasonable, insane or something? Is this something that I can figure out on this forum, I know it's probable a lot to ask, or should I stick to individual consultations? Thanks for reading this long post :)

Here is some pics of the cover-up I just had done. I don't have a pic of the finished tattoo I will get one taken when my wife gets back. Before Almost done Almost done back view The whole photo set on Flickr I am so glad to have this cover-up done. I didn't care about the spider I got it when I was 16 and was quite used to it... kind of liked it to be honest. I will get another small spider again one day. The dragonflies on the other hand... I REALLY hated them. I went into a street shop one day looking for a band of lizards (which would have still sucked) and ended up with this because I was in a hurry, stupid and did not know any better. To be honest it turned me from tattoo for years. I went in for some script on my wrist and started talking to a real tattooer that I got brave again. The tattoo is done my Alicia E from Trouble Bound Studios in Newfoundland. The reason for a dragon? Well my whole mindset on life changed when I became a dad. I suddenly knew my role had changed to protecter and that is what a dragon is to me. OK enough typing, did I mention I tend to ramble?

So what is the general consensus on phoenix tattoos? I didnt see it mentioned so much in the thread about what tattoos you dont like to do but what are your thoughts? I am looking to get my first and have thought about a lot of ideas. I originally was trying to come up with a design that honored my parents since I lost them both so early and celebrated my wife and daughter. That wasnt working out so good. I decided that the phoenix can represent a lot of different things and as long it is a bad ass bird, it can look pretty cool. I need to talk to some of the local artists to see what I can do but looking mainly at my shoulder/upper arm or maybe upper back. Just wanted to get your thoughts.

It seems I've already made a fair share of enemies here with my stance on tattooers with little to no tattoos and my post-whoring to reach the point I could ask this question, and I would like to apologize to any that I offended and ask that you not hold it against me now. My question is, I am new to New York City, and am seeking assistance finding a shop (or specific artist) that does (or you think could do) Chinese style art. Specifically, I am looking for someone who can pull off an original design in this style for a half sleeve; Thank you.

I personally don't care for this style of tattooing, but I'm curious to hear what the rest of you think. To my untrained eye it looks like it's applied decently enough, but I suspect the "no outline" thing won't age with dignity...

My Dad got this same design in Fayetteville, N.C. in 1953 (obviously not from Sailor Jerry, but the same design anyway). It's the only tattoo he ever got, and at 75 years old you can imagine that tattoo looks like total shit, and it does. I'm almost 46 now, but I can remember seeing seeing this tattoo since I was three years old. It got me hooked on anything and everything to do with tattoos ever since then. Pop's is on his left arm, about the size of a softball. I don't have any room on either arm for it so I'm gonna get it on my left leg on Saturday. Opinions?

Just yesterday I saw this almost completely blacked-out tattooed guy in a book that was at around 80% coverage using the negative space to make a few designs. This stuff is crazy! I am thinking most people get it as a cool coverup. Below is a reference, just imagine less skin more black!

Today as I am getting ready to go get tattooed(again) I am doing my ritual cut things out size them and see what fits where so that this tattoo doesn't affect my plans for my next tattoo or the one after that. Also I want to make sure I utilize my space in the most efficient manner. I mean I guess the end game for all of this is to be covered, and while I still have my back piece to finish and my ribs, I feel I am running short on spots to just go and get tattooed on a whim or on vacation. Some people I talk to are sick of the pain and ready to be done, others are more frustrated than me because they literally have almost no room to get tattooed and everything they want doesn't fit. Anybody here have any perspective on this?

So I have my appointment coming up soon at Invisible and am getting a traditional(ish) skull. I am still trying to decide what else to add to it. My artist said rose, I said no. I was thinking snake, with possible the skull missing the bottom jaw. Its going to be around 5x5 and my upper thigh. Any ideas? Edit: Wrong section. Mods if you want you can move it.

Is their anyway to incorporate very different styles to not "clash" with other styles? I.E. biomechanical vs american traditional vs Japanese traditional. I ask this because I am a fan of almost all styles and would like all of them just I don't know how they would work close to each other. My new artist said that you should stick with a overall style but I would somehow like to merge all of them somehow... (I am going for full body-suit coverage). Any thoughts?

Okay since it's shark week let's see some shark tattoos. I will start it off with a couple from my friend Ross Carlson of Living Art Tattoo and Artwork Rebels Portland. Ross coined himself the shark guy in town for a minute. The first tattoo is on me and was one of the first sharks he did the second is his latest shark tattoo.

Hey I'm a total newbie when it comes to tattoos but I have an idea for one that I would love to make happen. No words, just the image with a black backdrop. Is this doable/possible? Let me know guys. I would want this on my back and though I am not certain on the exact size I would want it to cover most of the surface area.

i've been thinking about this..i have on my left arm right now a tattoo of my dog on my shoulder, and a longhorn bull head on my inner bicep. i want to get an eagle / banner, but maybe i should put it on the other arm and save that space for a non-animal design? thoughts?
