What's the toll to cross the bridge?

I have an ankh and people always ask me if it is:
a) a satanic symbol
b) a feminist symbol
c) a lesbian symbol
d) a cross
I tell these people it's a stick figure with their legs shut.

I think this is the first season that really LACKS a few talented 'ringers'.
If I can ask... who do you think is 'good talent' so far?

I admit; I'm addicted to it.
It gets me SO damned mad but I can't control myself and have to watch it.

As Oliver Peck would say, "Do I want a face tattoo? No. Do I want a face tattoo from one of the knuckleheads on this show? HELL NO!"

Maybe not ideal, but I got frames at Costco for mine and they look pretty damned sharp.

Personally, I don't care how long bigger pieces take--the artist can take as long as they need to finish it to their satisfaction. They are professionals. I save up enough per session and get tattooed once a month or maybe skip a month here and there until they say it's done. I don't really like to tally up exactly how much it cost in the end, I just like to see a good tattoo. I do know approx how much each session will be and that is helpful. I was at the shop 8 hours yesterday working on my arm...it was maybe my 3rd session on it and I believe there's 1 to go. Yay! So psyched.
@DeadSpot, the specific thread titled "plainskins say the darndest things" is not to make fun of what newbies who are looking to get tattooed say, it's more like shit my mom says--and other people who have never and most likely will never be into tattoos. And it was meant to be light hearted and funny, not mean spirited.

I think your coworker is just missing the "nuance" section of her brain. Wanting to be tattooed does not mean it feels comfortable to invite comments on them in every single social and professional situation. We all feel differently about how much we show and conceal. That's ok.

if you follow her IG and go back in the time line, I'm the Ganesh (last week, outline only), the Panther (finished around November), and the Tiger (finished probably 18 months ago). The first two are linked in my profile. I think they preceded her IG usage?

no idea is this is true, but have heard through the grapevine that talented but young tattooers applied and were rejected for being too good. essentially, they didn't one one or two being so much better than the dregs they typically get on these shows. and probably they didn't have enough drama to be interesting on TV. Though I don't doubt that most folks with any degree of skill wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. And yet here I am, watching it every week like a sucker.

Interesting update: I just had my annual review with my boss. He said he'd actually like to see expose more of my tattoos as work, as I'm a "creative" (copywriter) and he wants me to feel as comfortable as possible. I mentioned that I keep mostly covered because a lot of the folks in our company are fairly uptight, but he said, "Fuck them."
We'll see how it goes!

I would say you are in a similar position as myself. I work a job that does not like tattoos and I have to keep em covered up. Now while I only have my upper arm done, it went past the point of polos/short sleeve buttons-ups to be worn ever again. I also would love to fill my right arm up and have it "complete" but I also greatly enjoy rolling up my sleeves when I get hot (job can send me all around the world). While I really don't worry to much about loosing my job or anything in regards to that, I also am keeping it conservative at the moment. If you are like me you have TONS of room left elsewhere. I am about to start on finishing my left leg in a month. That will fully satisfy my urge to get tattooed for around a year, and I am getting a killer "sleeved limb" tattoo done. (The technical term for this is "squid-pant sleeve").
I say if you got any hesitation about the placement, save it for later. Like I said, having the ability to roll up your sleeves is key to me at least.

Totally cool. I hope you didn't feel like I was attacking you in any way, it was not my intention. I liked what you had to say and I would never bring any negativity to this forum. You're correct about the tattoos not being the best on the tv shows. Some of the clients they would give us were very hard to work with and wanted really odd tattoos. The phrase "polishing a turd" word come to mind often... It tested ones patience.

I won't argue with you about the TV show. I have to disagree with the one part about Ami's tattooing skills, here is a photo of a tattoo he recently finished in Miami, it took him under a month and he texted the pics to a few friends. He is very far from a bad tattooer. FYI: He drew the whole dragon side on with a pen

My hubby is not on LST yet anyway but I am excited about his new tattoo...this was after his 1st session w/Kim Saigh a couple months ago. I don't seem to have a pic from his second session but a lot of black was added and some cool swirls. Tomorrow he will get color in the flowers...

I haven't made an addition to this thread since page 30 something. My time has finally come!
Richard Stell, guest spotting at Smith Street Tattoo in NYC. It was an awesome experience. Richard is hilarious. He had my abs cramping up at one point from laughing to much... or it was the hypoglycemia setting in. Regardless it was a lot of fun.

Great time getting tattooed by Valerie yesterday. It really comes through how much she and Stewart care about what they're doing. Weird moment recognising the guy from Stewart's blog with the Saga/Reinke sleeves - those are some awesome looking tattoos (sorry if I'm being weird again and you're reading this, ha!).

Ok, I'm late to the party again, but I'm gonna drag up the Guns vs Machines thing again...
It doesn't fucking matter. I used to think it marked a difference between 'them' and 'us' but then I learned it's regional too. So I dropped it.
Many older English (or maybe even from elsewhere in the British Isles) tattooers used to call their machines 'guns'. Many still do. It doesn't mean they can't tattoo. That's guys we'd consider 'Old School' or 'Traditional'. Yeah, maybe their equipment didn't shoot anything, maybe they were using equipment with electromagnetic motors rather than a doorbell circuit with just regular coils, but that's what they got called by working professionals. 'Guns'.
Get over it.
Stop getting high and mighty because you heard some 'insider' terminology at the Tat Spot or the Tattoo Parlour or the upscale Dermagraphic Adornment Boutique, or maybe you read it on the internet. I guess you can be the authority on tattoo terminology now. Good for you.
I'm gonna keep slingin' ink on my bitchin' clients with my tatty-zap guns and also I'll be tattooing my regular customers as per usual. They way I say it shouldn't be of much concern.
Recently I've heard so many time-wasting, lazy-ass, no-talent-goons tell me how much they 'Respect the Craft', 'Honour Tradition' & put their 'Heart and Soul' into their half-assed doodles while asking for an apprenticeship/job/critique/applause/handout/validation, that the terminology has become meaningless.
The end result of the effort should be by what measure they, we and I'm, held accountable.

I am a big fan of the female physique, but the last thing I want to think about when getting tattooed is getting laid. I get tattoos so I can get laid (I'm kidding, kinda...ok, maybe I'm not).
