  1. Tattooing involves such an immense amount of critical thinking and on-the-spot decision making.

Thank you, how is it that nobody else mentioned this? Way way too many variables like this make actual tattooing with a robot impractical at best.

The technology is in it's infancy, but that doesn't mean it will never mature.

Newsweek in 1995: Why the Internet will Fail. - The Next Web

Everything starts small, weak, and clumsy.

Did you just seriously compare writing a new computer program with doing a physically invasive procedure like getting a tattoo? Are you fucking kidding me?

  2. Yes to some degree, but also worth noting is that there were far fewer than there is now so the amount of crap out there is significantly greater.

I think that there was also less 'ambitious' types of tattooing going on, meaning that most scratchers were doing plain traditional tats and maybe tribal at best. I'm talking about home scratching with a machine not jailhouse guitar string style.

  3. Derailing into what is most likely a can of worms. I think that having 3 or 4 tattoos and one of them looking like complete shit is a bit different than having a good 20 to 30 good tattoos and a very good understanding of them and after that getting one that you know will be like shit. Not every single tattoo is always result-oriented; chew on that and agree or disagree but I stand by what I mean in the most vague of terms. I do think that it's an 'earn your right ' (stupid fucking cliche term, but in this it has to be used) situation and in this case I really mean it above and beyond other 'earned rights' like hand tats.

  4. I saw this on Facebook today and it might not be the most impressive skateboarding on this thread, but it more than makes up for that for being inspiring. I'm thinking that I should suck up my fear of maiming myself and start riding.

The Berrics - News - NEAL UNGER, 60 YEAR OLD SKATEBOARDER

^ I saw that as well. Never too old to have fun man.

A few years ago my buddy and I were snowboarding here in CO and were at a halfway point on the mountain waiting for the lift. In front of us was some dude who we saw ripping just earlier. He turned around to talk to his friend and he was 65 if he was a day.

PWee turned to me and said "looks like we got at least 25 years left to do this".

  5. My heroes.....especially now that i am tattooing....are those people who just go to their shop everyday and tattoo for the love of tattooing! They put in their time....make beautiful tattoos that last.....if someone walks in and wants a name they do it....if some one wants kanji they do it....and if someone what's a full on dragon back piece then they do it! Usually no egos.....just a humble person who loves what he does and has been blessed with the talent and skill to pull it off! ;)

    THIS

  6. Is this why I feel like I need to get a tattoo from one of these "names" in order to feel fully accepted here? My guy has some great stuff out there (in my inexperienced opinion) but jeez I find myself worried that my work wouldn't be considered a quality tattoo.

There are a lot of little known people out there doing spectacular tattoos. The tattooer doesn't have to have a 'name' for me to say "wow that's a great tattoo".

  7. @Colored Guy Growing up with my parents getting tattooed a lot, I feel fortunate as a younger person in this world that can remember that time a bit. I remember mostly white supremacists and bikers, cops showing up to pick up clients and tattooers mid-tattoo, and of course tattooers yelling racial slurs at black cops. Drugs and guns hidden in the back, violating several individuals' paroles, etc. Rattlesnakes in cages in the front, boa constrictors in the lobby, and people making bets on how long it would take them to eat the various animals they were fed.

It was a different time, of course... but I'm glad for a decent amount of the changes that have happened in tattooing.

Add some tigers in the basement & it sounds like Roy Boy's shop hah

  8. Bunch of good advice from all sides here.

    Agreed on these fronts;

If it really comes to it and you are determined then sit down with your tattooer and talk about what works best.

Too many shades and tones in a flower and leaves that size esp in a traditional tattoo doesn't look 'proper'.

    Over analyzing.

Live with it for a few months before making a decision to change it; it might grow on you just as is.

That being said, if someone said they are just dying to add some other colors the best options imo would be either a small one color burst from behind it or a color (maybe 2!) in the banner but not both options and not too much of anything at all. That's just too rainbow-y and looks like a bad fail not a good fail. That was my attempt at a clever witticism with the banner quote but that's the best I have at the moment.

Consider colors not used already but not pastel-ish or muted tones. I would offer the idea of whipping some golden yellow from the fail side in and whip some blue or aqua from the better side in. Gold being a lighter color will balance with amount of red green and black on that side and blue being a fairly mid tone color will work since there's not very much else close to that part of the design.

More green or an orange just would look too similar to what's there.

But mostly just live with it for a few months. It looks fine.

  9. Going to see OM on 4/20 in Denver, and it's also closing day at Vail. Should be a fucking awesome day.

Missing godflesh, carcass, gorguts, spirit caravan all in the span of a week to save money for wood and tattoos and a home. Im bummed but what can I say I commited to things and I need to prioritize. Still fuck...esp godflesh and spirit caravan...fuck.

I understand completely. I had to pass up a few good shows in order for me to move across the country. Worth it though.

  10. First thing I wanna say is that I think you're awesome and one if my favorite people here. Also that the level if respect I have for you is extremely high; this is a tough fucking job and you have to be a damn strong person to do it. That is multiplied exponentially by being a woman tattooer; in such a male/macho dominated field you have to have a backbone of steel, so you go girl. High five. Even the best of friends have differences of opinion from time to time.

If someone said that experienced happened while getting tattooed by Sailor Jerry I would not be surprised; if someone said that happened while getting tattooed by Hardy I would be really surprised. Best of friends but just different people and approaches to business.

  11. You feel uncomfortable then tell the guy to stop.....get up....and walk out!

I'm not saying that silence is consent BUT if you say nothing then nothing changes!

I have been a tattooed female for 30 years now and I have heard all kinds of shit come out of tattooers mouths both male and female! The business has changed drastically I guess BUT when I was first getting tattooed.....it was always assumed if you weren't tough enough to take the banter then MAYBE you shouldn't get tattooed because the world was gonna give you a whole lot more shit about being a tattooed woman than the banter you were gonna get in the shop.....including this statement!

I was terrified to walk into the shop when i got my first tattoo in fact the two ladies that went with me didn't go in and I went in on my own! I had heard all kinds of things about tattoo shops and although they were cool to me I am sure they weren't to everyone! Anyway.....what i am saying is they didn't offer wine and cheese like the "salons" do now! Most were street shops and this kind of comment probably would have been said as you were walking through the door instead of them waiting for you to get into the chair!

I am sorry that you had a bad experience BUT this is honestly mild compared to some of the things I have seen and probably even said to men and women in tattoo shops!

I am a year and a half into my apprenticeship....and I like women! Would I make a comment like this? Probably not.....but I can't honestly say! I do know I have said much worse......it's a tattoo shop after all!

If people don't like my opinion oh well.....but don't try to change it because you won't! ;)

And of course there weren't tattoo shops on every corner of the city either so if you wanted to be tattooed then you had to deal with whatever was thrown your way!

I HATE what these stupid ass TV shows have done to this business.....I enjoyed the way it was much more....too bad the new generation had it ruined for them!

I have to respectfully disagree with most of this Bunny, I've been getting tattooed for a long time and at many shops as well, and can also speak from my experience on the other side of the counter. There has always been trash and there has always been professional courtesy. The idea that because it's a tattoo shop that it's an excuse to be a piece of trash isn't something I can condone or respectfully agree with. For longer than you and I have been doing this there have been tattooers that don't act like that. Even the HA I worked for didn't act like that and called out other tattooers and bikers that worked for him if they said shit like that, and he's a tough take no shit MF that most would assume might be that type of trash.

If someone said that to my wife or gf they would definitely get punched in the face, and that would've happened 30 years ago as well as yesterday.

  12. Yeah I read about that and wanted to vomit. Disgusting isn't even in close proximity to how horrible that is.

"It's wrong to attribute (the 'defendant would not fare well' comment) to Judge Jurden," said Richard Kirk, a lawyer who is chairman of a Delaware State Bar Association committee that he says steps up to respond "when judges are criticized and unable to speak for themselves."

Kirk says the argument that Richards would not do well in prison could have been the recommendation of probation or parole officers. However, he said, "common sense suggests that it came from defense counsel."

As for the prosecutor's side, the attorney general's spokesman gave CNN a written statement.

"Cases of child sexual abuse are extremely complicated and difficult," it read. The objective is to "secure justice in every case to the best of its ability given the unique facts and circumstances presented in each case -- sometimes that results in a resolution that is less than what prosecutors would want," the statement read.

"In this particular case, the facts and circumstances made it unlikely that a conviction could be secured at trial. ...This resolution protected the victim and imposed conditions that would make it less likely the defendant could harm others."

This is so transparent it would be laughable in any other situation. Here it is just sad, fucked up, and glaringly obvious as to the fact that when it comes to money the only real law is lawyers.

  13. Is the one in the top of the head for stress? I have that one done most times, and I love it because I feel legit stoned (but super functional, just... chiiiiiiiiiiiiiill) afterwards.

I'm not sure; I just put myself in his hands and let him stick me anywhere for whatever reason & I don't ask any questions. Hah.

Yeah that one is neat; to me it's a flash where it feels like a mild electric stimulation that only takes a millisecond but I can still feel it travel from crown to toe in that instant. Wild.
