Thanks for the comment!  His name is Carl Greili and works out of west anchor tattoo.  I think he did a great job too. The more I get used to it I'm starting to think waiting a while before I add to shoulders is probably a good idea.

New to the site. Here is my latest. It took 6 hours and 45 minutes but got it all done in one. I think the artist did a great job and initially I was very positive about the piece. I really like some of the shaded area in the middle but am trying to warm up to the wings as they contrast a lot with my arm tattoos. I may even go back eventually to have less blank space between the feathers on the wings.  

I think the image looks interesting and depending on the style and tattoo it could look great!  Ultimately, compare a lot of artists work, then go with one who has done something in a style that resembles what you are going for. Show them the picture, explain what visually you like most about the image and see if they can replicate it. In my recent case, the artist told me my image wouldn't translate well as a tattoo. He drew up something pretty different but it looked really good so I got it. 

Yep. That new black will settle in, and more on your shoulders = of course! Maybe your back tattoo can wrap all the way over.

Just kidding. But I have a sinking feeling when I look at the contrast in bold dark with my faded and shaded tattoos on my arms. I could use some reassurance in terms of style and placement. I really like the tattoo on its own but am now trying to figure out where to add on my traps and top of shoulders as the Hawk looks low to me now. 
What do you think?  Take a chill pill?  Looks alright?  Slow down before adding more or I am right in thinking it looks a little odd with the space above?

Great tattoo! Enjoy the heal and let it settle in. You'll know what to do eventually. In a few months, hit up your artist to see if they have any suggestions.

Thank you Dan!  It took almost seven hours and I got it done in one. You reassure me in that I was thinking the same regarding newness makes it stick out more.

a F***-off eagle up above, an up-yours eagle down below. backstop with crimson red. with fire. lots of fire! cause i wished i had got more fire all over before i filled up. now i have to live vicariously through strangers on the internet ! cheers

i actually see what you're saying. up close, you can see the delineation between the petals. But farther away, it looks like a bit of a blur. There's not enough  contrast between the grays and the lines.
Let it heal all the way, then maybe have a friend draw the black portion on with a sharpie and see how it reads from a distance. if you think it's a significant enough improvement, take a picture of it, bring that design to a reputable artist, and explain the story. they should be able to fix it up and hopefully make you happy with the tattoo.

looks great,I would leave it alone for a while,
rethink adding around it in 6 months,IMO it looks good by itself.
and it will look like your other tattoos in time too,it just looks like that now because it's new.
I'm sure your other tattoos looked bold and dark when they were new too.

I think the placement is good. If it was higher, the beak would move onto your neck and the angle would make it appear bent.
