I think the right direction would be going to a shop at this point, you already know what you want get tattooed. Going back in forth on this forum for two weeks trying to find an answer or spending ten minutes at the tattoo shop figuring out what will work and what the tattooer (the professionals) suggest seems like an easy choice. Plus it would be impossible to try to figure out where you should get your tattoo over the internet. This forum generally gives good advice regarding tattooing, but the tattoo shop is the best fastest resource around.
As far as getting the same thing, it's going to be hard if aren't into the same tattoos. You guys are both individuals and will like different things, so even if the tattoo differs slightly it will still be something you did together for the same reason. The experience itself can be your solidarity. Otherwise if it's that important to be the same you have to just agree on something, even if it means one person getting what the other person wants, I mean it's just lettering it's says the same thing no matter what the "font" is. Keep the whole process simple and relatively pain free so you focus on this being a fun event.

I'd recommend finding a great local tattooer with a bunch of nice script in their portfolio to see what they can do in designing the names. My inclination is to always get nice script drawn up by hand as opposed to finding a font online.

have you googled fat people with tattoos? they are are scratchtastic, and they dont look good. idk i wish i could see a good version of it.

Some pictures from a book I picked up not too long ago entitled A History of Japanese Body Suit Tattooing (I found out about the book thanks to a couple people on this site, so thank you for that, LST). Unfortunately, none of these pictures had credits for the tattooers.
The third and fourth picture are both tattoos of Benkei (or Onikawamaru [Young Devil Child]) fighting a giant carp that devoured his mother at the Bishamon Waterfall.

Most stories of a mom's displeasure with a tattoo that I have heard usually include a bunch of yelling and a slap upside the head and then we move on. The new passive aggressive mom internalizes everything, and uses her blog as her outlet before she plays the I brought you into this world card. Who knows if this story is real, but hanging out at the playground it sounds about right for how some parents would treat their 21 year old.

I've got a pair of straight edge praying hands on my leg, and usually get asked about them by little kids at the diving board in the summers. trying to figure out an answer the first time or two took a minute.
As for awful slang terms, some dude tried hitting on a chick I work with by saying something to the effect of "Yo girl, you inky!" It didn't work out.

I got this last night. I swore I was not getting any more tattoos before I finished the ROA back piece, but dammit! this was just too good to pass up on. It sprang from an idea I had about funny stuff you could get tattooed.
It was the most fun time I've ever had getting tattooed. There were lot's of funny, raunchy stories told while this was done.

I think that the moral of this thread is do not ask for advice about specific tattoos designs. A much better question to ask is "Are there any tattoo artists in my area that you recommend?". You will most likely receive a lot of great suggestions. Then you take that information, and go into some shops and look at portfolios. Then you decide who's portfolio you like the best, and you talk to them. A genuine human interaction.
You seem like a very nice person. I am sure that if you went into a shop to talk to an artist about what it is that you want you would be presently surprised with what they have to say.
