Of course, if you're adding their ink to some great ink you already have, you're paying them a compliment...

I don't mind the term at all, it only gets douchey when you act like a douche about it, as if having tattoos from only big name artists makes you better than other people, or means you know more than them. I collect tattoos, from people I've worked with, some big names and other artists who are just starting out.

I agree with this 100%, and just so you know, I just refer to y'all as nerds. Myself included.

Go ahead and lose your calm - there is no reason you should be OK with someone bullying you.
I can't tell you what the answer is in your case but what I can say is...real men don't bully women.

donbcivil reacted to Pirates Tattoo in Girl in a mens world....
Hello, I'm Charlotte and a novice in the tattoo world. I do tattoos for 2 years now and opened this year my studio in Tarifa (Spain). Two years ago , I was that girl with dreams and plans about the tattoo world, now that I have my own studio, I lost a lot of my "virginity" and have a hard time struggling in this "men" or better said "macho" world. Are there any girls or men out there who can give me any tips or advices how I can survive ? Since I opened my studio , I'm getting bullyed by a college (an older tatoist with 10 years experience) and very often I loose my calmt as I am a temperamentfull girl. I'm soo much in love with this world of tattooing and this person makes what could be a beautifull moment in my life as a hell. How do the girls do in USA ? Please write......Charlotte Moody.

donbcivil reacted to mtlsam in Poutine before getting a tattoo?
As a spoiled Montrealer, I can say that a poutine would likely be a good pre-tattoo meal. You must be careful in choosing the size that you order, or you may fall into a food induced coma, then you run the risk of waking up with 56 stars tattooed on your face ;) Just don't pair it with a Coke, I suspect that the cafeine makes the tattoo process less pleasant.

Took a trip to New England to see family but made a tattoo road trip out of it too!
Flew into Boston and got tattooed by Juli Moon, Korie Wilson, & Josh Bjorklund that day
around the Boston/NH areas (Friday)
Drove 4 hours to central Maine....lol
Then 2 hours back down i-95 to see Cyndi Lou the next day in Portland, ME
Took a day of rest....
then hit Hobo's Tattoo on the way back down to the Boston airport and got
tattooed by George Benjamin 3 hours before our plane took off!
5 tattoos in 3 days.....was a hell of a trip!
We tend to base all of our travels though around family and artists in
the areas near where we are going!
Like....we went to our son's boot camp graduation in Oklahoma so we
went to see David Bruehl in Norman, OK!
I would fly to Skull & Sword from Baltimore though to add Grime to the collection!
I hate when the hubby has an artist that i don't....ha ha ha ha!
There are a lot of left coast artists I would love to add!

It is, and it would be a frosty day in hell before I ever tattooed my employer's logo on my body.

A company that wants you to show loyalty by getting a tattoo of its logo is a company that can get bent.
Isn't this roughly equivalent to that choad who tattooed his name on his girlfriend's face in that they're basically claiming you as their property?

You are my hero for saying what I often think! It's sad how little people are willing to settle for out of life. I've made big mistakes in 55 years, but my biggest mistakes were the times I DIDN'T go for it.

Planning tattoos and getting them is fun for me. Then, having them is great, too. So, they make me happy. I don't know if they've changed my life...but they enhance my life for sure!

I agree with the comment about people being too timid and living life in fear. I quit a pretty good programming job to do this:
Got the commemorative tattoo a year after I completed hiking the trail. Spent two summers hiking that trail and the months in between and right after working some interesting and unusual jobs.
In fact, even though I have gotten tattoos that didn't turn out that well, I never regretted them because I have always valued living life to the fullest, just doing things that make life more interesting. Even if they don't always work out. Even if that means I've never been much of a career-oriented person.

I think that tattoos have definitely added to my life and been part of a process of changing my life.
When you look at most of society, it seems really lame. People seem pathologically risk averse, in a desperate perpetually skeered mission to eliminate all traces of risk from their lives and to force those same choices on other people, which in my opinion is much worse. It'd be so easy, with the economy being screwy and work perpetually stressed, to stay in a constant state of worry.
Aside from a great wife and daughter and a good career in programming, the greatest gift I've been given is that I've always enjoyed activities involving managed risk: target shooting, martial arts, motorcycles, climbing. They've given me some ability to turn of fear and just act, rather than joining the herd and being perpetually paralyzed by fear.
I see tattoos as another step in that process. I got my first one after I was 50 and, ironically, got laid off from a job I'd hated for a while about a week later. Aside from being a goofy pun, that No Way tattoo was intended as a statement to myself that I wasn't going to follow courses set by other people anymore. I found a better job in about 3 weeks and I think the tattooed symbol of that inner determination helped me hit the ground running hard instead of moping for a while.
So yeah, tattoos have become a later part of the process of choosing my own course in life.
