That's right I said it. People keep asking what we think of the new show and I'd say that about sums it up. I only saw the first episode. We've been expecting the worst and it's the worst. Chris Torres is the only artist in fact from New York and he was cast as TLC's tattooed answer to Jersey Shore. Their space is reminiscent of the set of Friends. Ami's shop, or I should say TLC's new tattoo parlour on Wooster Street is the unrealistic equivalent of Monica's huge apartment that only a character on TV could afford. All the "I hope I can pay the bills" is a joke. Real life tattoo shops do not have ads on the sides of buses. They're casting the same sorry customers. Dead babies, cancer, tragic endings are needed for inspirational subject matter. (nothing against memorial tattoos except TLC thinks that's the only compelling reason to get tattooed)
I'm surprised at how many people actually think there's any reality involved. The scenarios are scripted it's become an hour of bad acting and cheesy scripts. As interesting as a tattoo shop can be and as much fun as it is to get glimpses into our customers lives and their motivations for getting tattooed the reality is that these shows are orchesrated by people who have no actual interest in our industry. There is no understanding or appreciation for the truly fascinating stories and backgrounds of the people who come through our doors (not just the sob stories). It's a caricature written by squares who think they know what a tattoo shop is about. It takes a lot of talent to really portray people's reality in a way that is respectful and truly compelling. I'm a huge fan of documentaries. I love learning about other people's realities. But it takes thought and vision to capture that spark that can be so interesting. Something that doesn't easily fit into the drive by format of a TV series I guess. It's too bad that there is no respect for our industry involved in the creation of these shows. Tattooing is such a rich subject matter it's dissapointing to see it dumbed down for the masses but I guess we shouldn't expect anything else.
By the way shame on TLC for knocking off our friend Mark Mahoney's shop name SHAMROCK SOCIAL CLUB.

Welcome dude...Did you get tattooed by Dan at his new shop..It looks to be a cool shop.I got tattooed by Jack years ago in Jersey,he started tattooing me around 11:00pm,and didn't finish until about 5:00am.I remember I had an hour of driving to get home,and I had to go right to work.

I'm not sure I see what the problem is. It doesn't look like it came from somebody's kitchen, it looks like somebody did his or her best with a not very tattooable idea, and honestly, your post reads like a bad yelp review.

I called some shops in LA,and the guy at Shamrock Social Club said IMG - Dr. Christopher Ho is the best.I called Brother Greg,and he said he uses a place in Costa Mesa called Laser Tattoo Removal & Tattoo Lightening in Southern California by Tat2BeGone

I'm new to the tattoo world. Got my first one in the beginning of June. It's a wolf paw with a black/silver wolf with the night sky and a moon inside! I needed another..so I got another! I started a black and grey half sleeve of a snarling wolf stepping over another wolves' skull! My next appointment is in the beginning of August to do the background to finish the half sleeve! Now, I already set up another appointment in the end of August for another! Not sure what to do yet, either something my artist drew up, a snake and dagger, or an undead horse. Well, I don't mean to toot my horn, but I'm suppose to be getting a Raven tattoo by Bob Tyrell in September as well..fantastic, huh?!

I won $100 through their IG contest today! Now to decide who to get tattooed by...

My name is John and I'm from Hudson County, New Jersey.
A very good friend of mine suggested checking this site out so I've lurked it for a few months and decided to join.
At 31 years old, I just got my first tattoo this past May. Though I've been into art for years, tattoos have been something I've been into since my teens. I was always hesitant because I didn't want to live with that "regretful" tattoo mixed with not being able to afford a good artist.
Finally as i began my diet at 360 pounds, I kept saying to myself I'm going to get a tattoo when I lost 25 pounds. I got past 25 pounds then bumped it up to 50 pounds. Past that mark then 100 pounds. Past that and finally said when i lost 125 pounds I'm going to get a tattoo.
FINALLY I got up to 128 pounds lost (currently weighing in at 232 pounds). I decided that's it I'm doing it. I began booking appointments with specific artists that I have either followed or researched. I have appointments this November 2014 and October of 2015.
BUT Being a fan of Luke Wessman's artwork and life story since about July of 2013. I needed him to do my first tattoo.
Went to Wooster Street Social Club and he took me as a walk-in. Having his talent, great back story and awesome conversation only fueled the fire of getting more tattoos that mark specific parts of my life.

The first time I got hit was over 15yrs.ago by a doctor in MD.I went to him because he was profiled in a magazine removing tattoos from Jack Rudy.The dude wouldn't give me a price over the phone,so I drove down there,and he said 450.00 It took him like 5 minutes,and he just came off like a douche Bag.I got the vibe that he didn't like tattoos,and he was rushing through the job.The other three times I went to a tattooer who did the laser.I was in NC,and was in a shop talking with the tattooer about laser,and he told me he went to a tattooer to get it done.The next day I went to Immortal Images in Charlotte,and the dude hit three tattoos in an hour for 150.00.I felt like Steve really took his time,and just felt comfortable with him.I drove back down there a second time,and got the three hit again.After the doctor,I've always been hit by a tattooer that was trained.I think the prices were much better,and I felt more comfortable getting lasered in a shop,then a doctors office.
