  1. Saw this article in BME:

BME: Tattoo, Piercing and Body Modification News » ModBlog » Fraud in Tattooing

I know the whole "color tattoos with no outline" thing has been discussed on the board elsewhere, but I had no idea a healed tattoo could look this bad -- after only four months! Wondering if you guys had any thoughts on the matter.

ok so i took a look at the photo. something tells me that thats not the same tattoo. the shadow patterns arent the same. there are areas that are darker than they started and that wont happen ever. not to mention there are areas where the shadows are completely different and that wont happen either. the two tattoos dont match and it doesnt add up. ive seen tattoos fade but certainly not change

  2. Ok, so I saw this last night on tv... Has anyone seen the show "bar rescue" ? It's a show about failing bars and some industry expert comes and shows them what's wrong and saves there business. So, if you haven't guessed by the name of the thread... The sane net work that presents bar rescue is gonna bring us the cesspool they will be calling "tattoo rescue". I think this show has promise, and by promise I mean, making me laugh my ass off in disbelief and disgust. Has anyone else seen the comin attractions to this show?

I really do think it's go na be awesomely terrible and it has to have all these other shows beat by a mile

  3. Skeleton heads = awesome

I have seen some realistic dragons. I got a couple pics I took last weekend for reference when I get it.

Also when I read gangster clap, I didn't understand for a bit thinking they just wanted a tattoo of a gangster with the clap....weird

gangsta clap... praying hands lmfao but i originally thought is was a black stripper who could do a seriously gangsta ass clap

What the hell is a "broke back girl"?

its the girl thats bent over backwards that turns into the skull. i forget whos flash it is....shit.

  4. ive been tattooing for a good while and i used to tell people who had bad tattoos that they had bad tattoos. i realized its not cool. everyone that loves their own tattoos think they have the best tattoos ever. so unless im amongst other tattooers i never speak about who has bad tattoos or what tattoos are bad.

and truth be told some clients that know too much about the whos who and whats what in tattooing annoy the shit outta me as much as the clients that ask for hoodie ghosts ( grim reaper)

and that leads me to another topic. all of us at the shop have been comprising a list of stupid shit clients ask for:

rosemarie beads, gangsta clap, happy face sad face, curvis, scripture, broke back girls, skeleton heads, falcon birds, 3D tattoos, angel babies and realistic dragons(not too many pics of them around anymore)

  5. Most if not all of my newer clients are brought through word of mouth. Recently, I had a client who I have a language barrier with, but he does fully understand me. Well, during our consult for his custom design, I explained that the amount of detail he wants is too much for the size of the design. Well, he continues to ask me to make it smaller, and I continue to amend the detail. When we discuss each edit, which I labor over for free of course...AGAIN AND AGAIN, he gets frustrated, and speaks to me as if I'm, for lack of a better term..Dumb! Why is it that my 24 yrs of experience, and immense amount of patience and understanding of the clients wants and the tattoos design limitations, and my lack of an exotic accent, make me dumb? WTF? Any other U.S citizen with a standard grasp of the English language ever feel treated like that? It's some kind of reverse "ism" that's for sure!

it happens man and im always just tempted to scribble on them for an hour or two. theyre lucky i have pride. when people get difficult i just tack in on in the end, im not doing extra work for free these days.

  6. i didnt read the article but heres m2c. by nature pastel colors fade quickly do to exposure to light. so it stands to reason that that would happen when you put them into the skin. i also do believe as i said in a different thread that the technical ability of the person putting them in comes into play a great deal.

but in the end all tattoos will change, some will spread some will fade. to what level, i believe really depends on how a persons body deals with the ink and the technician applying the ink.

ultimately if the client is happy and business is good then its a success. even the people who have bad tattoos that love them, see a great tattoo in their head. figuring out what tattoos are better than others is a moot point. as tattooers we all pretty much are on the same grind so what difference does it really make. as a collector that loves their tattoos what difference does it make if another collector doesnt.

  7. Funny a couple of years ago a client and friend of the shop was dating this girl who was starting tattoo school. It was her birthday so he bought her a tattoo, but was at work so she came in to get it alone. She brought a bunch of Milton Zeis reference and a Stoney St Clair Sheet repainted by Danny Reed that is in the revisited book. She wanted a crawling panther type design like on those sheets, but with leopard spots. Pretty straightforward design, piece of cake. She must have made one of the guys draw it like eight times. First it was too simple, then he drew a better cat and it wasn't enough like the flash, there was a bunch of nonsense about the claws and putting eyelashes on it, but this went on for like an hour, the whole time she was trying to ask a bunch of questions about being a tattooer. So the last time we just handed her a piece of paper and a pencil and told her to draw what she wanted. She claimed she didn't work well with pencil and paper and did all her drawings on computer. At that point my boss got up from the back and asked her point blank "You actually think you are going to become a tattooer? I can't wait to see how you deal with a customer like you. " At that point she was instructed that these were not the droids she was looking for and decided to leave before she was asked to.

i had a similiar situation years ago. some sort of tribal cat face and we went back and forth about the angle of the whiskers for about 2 hours. when she finally decided on what she wanted i went to the bathroom to wash up and came out and she was gone. the shop guy who was dating the boss told her if she wasnt comfortable with me she should just come back another day. i freaked! so then to make matters worse a few days later i was coming in to the shop on my day off and she was leaving with the tattoo i drew. the same shop guy gave the design to one of the other artists from off my wall.... doubly freaked!

  8. i was tattooing at the long island convention this past weekend. and some chick wanted a lightening bolt on her arm. she said she was a tattooer and had been at it 18 years. she had no visible tattoos. so i drew the lightening bolt on her three times and everytime she looked at it she kept saying to her friend " you know how i am" eventually she said sorry nevermind gave me 20 bucks and said "im gonna get it at my shop." lmfao. amazing!

  9. So the itch to get tattooed is getting unbearable waiting for my next session and want to pick up something kinda small in the NJ-NYC area. Any good suggestions?

I already know Smith Street is awesome but any other suggestions? (also any local artists chime in if you want).

I also remember Thicker than Water being mentioned

come on by we'd love to tattoo you

    -ttw
