  2. I just say I like _____, or I like the image. There's hardly ever a followup question.
  3. I lucked out in that my mom didn't react, other than to ask "Is that real?" when she saw my first visible one. She did buy me a long sleeved shirt for Christmas, but I don't think it's related.

    Hello

Don't do that. Get a tattoo, but don't get anyone's name on you that isn't your mom or dad or one of your kids.

Just got a copy of Higgs' "The Doomsday Bonnet" in the mail. Pretty cool stuff. Reminds me a lot of "Antwerp" by Roberto Bolaño.
  6. Welcome! If you're going to Austin it's basically a requirement to visit Rock of Ages.
  7. You could get Sylvester the Cat on the other side of your ribs, posed like a climbing panther. Then get Tweety colored. Win/win.
  8. There are a few tattoos shown in "Sonatine" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PtgybMAqTk
  9. I'd also suggest Paul Dobleman or Theo Mindell at Spider Murphy's, or Ross K. Jones at Idle Hand.
  10. Nice one! I've been thinking of getting a black rose from Scott for a while, might make it happen before the end of the year. Very nice tattoo.

    Intro

I'd like my skin to be used to bind a photo album for my family. That'd be cool. Especially if I get more Lovecraft-inspired tattoos.

@Graeme - thanks for the detailed intro. I've read A Song of Ice and Fire about five times start to finish (pending book 6) and don't mind spending time with it before picking up the whole series. I really liked that series, though A Clash of Kings is a real slog and is the toughest one to get through, but I've decided that any long series like that will have high points and low points, and that some sections will fly by and others will crawl. I'll check my local bookstores.

Got the collected Tattootime box set a few weeks ago and they're absolutely fascinating. Otherwise I'm reading "Cadillac Desert" by Marc Reisner, about how those of us who live out west are basically just kidding ourselves and we're going to run out of drinking water, and "Missoula" by Jon Krakauer, which is similarly depressing. That Malazan series sounds interesting. Is anyone here also on Goodreads?
  14. Reading more books, drinking less beer, riding my bike more. Not as cool as seeing DETH's studio, but still pretty awesome.
  15. Sylvia did a walk-in day a few weeks ago and said he wants to do more, so keep an eye on the 'grams.
  16. Two months and the itch is hitting pretty hard. To sell stuff, or not to sell stuff?
  17. Scott Sylvia is taking walkins tomorrow at Black Heart. I don't have the cash, but will look for the next one. Sounds like a ton of fun.
  18. Signed. Seemingly-innocuous laws like this are just part of incremental efforts by legislators and special interests to ban things they don't like. This has happened in many other fields as well.
  19. Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't take a Facebook or text message as parental permission - they're too easily faked.
  20. That really sucks. Shame on the guy who did it and on the teacher for allowing and enabling it. But unless you're willing to fly down to Belize and kick the guy's ass yourself there isn't really a whole lot to be done about the tattoo right now. The bigger issue is the breach of trust - if the teacher asked for permission via text/FB message and got it from somebody, who is the person who falsely provided it? Good luck. I'd be willing to bet that your kid will regret it sooner than not, and that may serve as punishment enough.
  21. Not everything needs to be an original idea. There's nothing at all wrong with getting a Hardy panther, or a girl face, or a rose and dagger just because it's less "original" than a completely custom design. Done well, there are many classic designs that make awesome tattoos, as good as (if not better than) many fully custom "original idea" tattoos. And there's a certain sameness to a lot of those anyway. But I'm getting off topic here.
  22. I'd only do this if I knew the tattooer well already, was very familiar with their body of work, and knew deep down that I'd like to get anything they felt like drawing. It seems like a pretty big leap to me, and there are very few artists I'd feel comfortable doing this with, but that's ultimately just taste. I'd also have to be completely out of ideas, and that isn't going to happen anytime soon.
  23. As above: if you're worried about getting something because you think it's trendy, it's probably trendy. But if you really like it, just get it.
