  1. bongsau, have you ever heard of a Canadian punk band, Mung? My long time internet buddy Peeker plays bass in the group.

I'll try the solidarity rock website from home since it is blocked at work.

My wife and I have been wanting to visit Cuba for years and will try to get there before McDonalds and Starbucks show up after everything opens up for U.S. travel.

We were in Jamaica and Grand Cayman last week and sailed past Cuba on the way home.

  2. Brilliant post, soraya! I think many here can relate, including men. For me, this paragraph in particular:

But I never imagined how much I would like being a tattooed person, I never anticipated how much I would come to love the way I looked with my tattoos. I never imagined how happy they would make me. And I never thought that I would love my tattoos so much that I would sometimes like to share them with the world.

On a separate yet slightly related note, I just finished reading an article by a woman who was dealing with another woman (non-tattooed) who stated "tattoos are essentially down to vanity".

The writer said that the definition of "vanity" is in fact the opposite of how she and her friends feel about themselves. She went on to say that they were not entirely content about their appearance and lacked self confidence, which drove the desire for more ink.

"Rather than getting ink because I have a high opinion of my personal appearance, I get ink precisely because that high opinion is absent. ...I am still on a journey to become comfortable with my own body."

I know this may not be how others feel, but I thought it was interesting and worthy of sharing with LST.

  3. What a great read this thread has been! I find myself agreeing with so much of what has been said so there's no need in regurgitating existing posts. Also, being able to disagree and remain civil is critical in a well functioning culture.

Within the tribe, mentioning who tattooed something is just a natural part of the discussion. I'm glad to see many LST'ers have avoided the dreaded red carpet elitism, "Who are you wearing?". :D

  4. reading "The Martian" right now - I'm no lit snob so if it grabs me it grabs me - cool read - movie is out now so I hope to finish it prior to seeing the flick

That was a really fun read. There are a few technical holes for the techies, but otherwise a really enjoyable book.

So far the movie reviews are mostly positive.

  5. @tattooscience, if you're going to come here wanting to get people to take a survey to do market research on an aftercare product you're developing, just come out and say it instead of being secretive about it on private message. As somebody who has great results healing tattoos using the time-proven method of soap, water, time, and patience, I'm going to say that there's no actual need for any new aftercare methods, and attempts to develop them have less to do with offering a better way of healing, and more to do with people with a tenuous at best connection to tattooing trying to find a way to cash in on it. Further, I'm going to say that coming here with the intention not of being part of the community of tattoo enthusiasts and artists here, but rather treating this place as resource to "gather valuable information" that in the end only furthers your shallow self-interest, is corrosive to the community a lot of us have worked hard over the course of years to build. I can only speak for myself here but I don't think you have found the right place.

Wow, the appropriate words that accurately address this post would likely get me banned. I'll just cut to the chase and ask, why do you feel the need to act like a douche all the time? Perhaps you should keep your misery to yourself instead of trying to bring the world down to your level.

Is this type of bullying is acceptable here in LST?

And to @tattooscience, don't take his unwarranted attack personally. It appears by your posts that you've done nothing wrong and are clearly not the problem here.

  6. I was a member of the recovery team for Apollo 14.Im getting some space themed stuff too.

Then you'll love this. It looks like NASA has posted almost every Apollo mission photo in high resolution on Flickr. They even have the blurry photos.

Many of these were processed by my grandmother when she worked at JSC. I wish I knew where the photo paper 11x17's that she gave me went. :( Some of the not perfect prints could be taken home by the photo lab workers.

  7. Sure!

Here's my latest tattoo made by my dear firend here in Slovenia, Dejan. He recently won a "Best of show" on the biggest tattoo show on earth, Las Vegas!!! ;)

    Whoa, that's really nice!

    Oh, hello and welcome. wave.gif

  8. @The Tig = you could always just tell her it's an ode to Southern Star Bombshell Blonde . . .

bigg.gif Yeah, I don't think she'll go for that! Thanks to her first hubby who cheated on her constantly, she gets a bit jealous and defensive.

I'm thinking of using the local B-17's nose art as an inspiration, brunette version, of course! ;)

  9. With plenty of thought, I'm looking to add to my left leg a few space and aeronautic themed tattoos. I enjoyed my past work in NASA from '85 to '98 and have loved this EVA image. I found a really good portraits artist that could pull this off in B&G on my outer calf. I think it would look best without the Earth and just some black shading around it to set off the white suit. Maybe remove some of the unneeded straps across the stomach area.

A Flying Tigers AVG tiger across and above the knee:

And on the inner calf, a classic WWII nose art pinup. She'll have to be a brunette like my wife to keep me out of the dog house. Something original but a little like this:

  10. I just don't get how can germs be left on it if I didn't touch the skin with the tip at all

:D But seriously, tattoo needles and the process (machines, gloves, inks, etc.) of tattooing should be treated similarly as a surgical field. Not so much like an operating room in a hospital, but more like a minor procedure performed in a doctor's office. Infections and blood born pathogens are serious business.

I'm sure a trained professional tattoo artist could elaborate, but that is not what this forum is about so I wouldn't expect any further word on this.
