  1. We already have several threads about bad tattoos, could we keep these kinds of posts to those threads? There are a lot of places on the internet for laughing at bad tattoos, and very few places where people with real knowledge and experience can talk about, post pictures of, and give people advice about good tattooing, so let's keep the board mostly focused on that.

    What this guy said.

  2. The way I put it simply after dealing with a so so guy getting a tattoo is don't do it. If they suck up front don't think it's going to get better with time. There are tons of awesome tattooers that are cool people. While they are people and people have their personality quirks sometimes these cannot be overlooked. Out of the 4 people that have tattooed me only one sucked; Stewart, Matt and Regino were awesome from the get go, the other dude not so much.

  3. I had a friend who would wear all black to the shop everyday and touch up any color pigment stains with a sharpie.

Haha that's awesome. I know the guy who tattoos me now wears a denim welding apron.

Probably doesn't work on Gwar blood.

Yea, Gwar blood is something else haha. The only time you are allowed to break the "all black" rule and wear a white tshirt.

  4. @Fermin, please do not use citronella on your skin. Don't use it on your dog, either, some dogs can have a very bad reaction. There are many, many, many essential oils that can be used neat, but most would be too harsh for a fresh tattoo. The only oil to ever put on a tattoo is lavender, and that's mixed with a carrier oil. And do make sure it's actually lavender, from a reputable company like Oshadii or Simplers or Young Living. There's 70% more products on the market that say "lavender oil" than there is lavender grown in the world. I have used this to heal a tattoo, but dryer always seems to be better for me. There's a reason everyone hates the word "moist."

Dry healing always works the best for me. Also I agree the word moist is terrible

  5. While the garment is dry, try pouring a bit of hydrogen peroxide on the inked area. It should loosen it, and lift it off the material. This also works great on removing blood from clothing and carpet. You know, in case you damage someone, and need to clean-up. LOL

This I should try, since I know I've yet to get blood out of a particular pair of jeans that accompanied me to a concert.

  6. I put on my work calendar - appt. with dr. Tseronis. I'm not sure what they hell they think since most of my appointments are all dayers. For once political correctness is my friend - it would be bad manners to ask the nature of my illness. I guess I could say that I'm sick of all this uncovered skin!

Yea my buddy and I have used dr. appointment excuse. Nobody ever checks. If they do just say something gross

  7. I live and work in China and got my first tattoo here this summer. Although more popular with younger generations, in China tattoos carry a much stronger stigma than in the west and are associated with prisons, crime and lack of education, in a much more narrow view than in other countries/cultures. I started a full sleeve and and the general response of my Chinese colleagues in the office (I'm Caucasian) was one of total silence, except for two younger girls, who asked if it hurt and said it was cool.

Old ladies in the bus are scared of me now.

    Man I'm such a badass.

Yea in NYC you generally get the opposite reaction. People are more likely to just walk up and talk to you.

  8. Most (not all) tebori artists are slower than machine only artists. Keep that in mind if you're planning tebori for a huge piece like that.

There are a handful of artists here in the states that do tebori: Shinji (Horizakura) in New York and Horitomo and Horiken at State of Grace in San Jose, CA come to mind immediately. I know that several members of the Horitoshi family travel to conventions in NY and SF, too. Just sayin': you can get tebori stateside if you'd like.

Yea I know there was (is) a guy at Invisible doing tebori. Not sure if it was a guest or not but it was done there.
