  1. My grandparents were born towards the end of the second world war, so none of them faught. My dutch grandfather remembers german soldier mowing down their farm with tanks, and allie forces lobbing grenades, tho. My Canadian grandmothers father was a front-line medic during the war. He returned home after the war, but died quickly of sone disease he cought over there. I forget what he died of. On my mother's side, there are 3 generations of nurses, going back to my great grandmother, who died at the age of 98, and who was named after Edeth Cavall. I understand my strong pull towards nurse imagery, hense why my center chest piece is the World War I image of the Rose of No-Mans Land. Could also explain why I want to be a tattooer now, and why I wanted to be a paramedic before that.

That same grandfather of mine has a British made Le Enfield MK. III that he bought at a garage sale in the 70s. Cool gun. Im no expert, so I dont know much about it, but it might have been used during the first world war, because I know they used Le Enfields during that time.

I had actually seen this piece recently and initially thought the same thing - but as a WWII buff and former Army officer/military historian I quickly realized it was a biker. I had several WWII German helmets when I was a kid in the 60's that had been painted for use by bikers. One was chromed, the other painted purple.

I thought the idea of an SS skull with a german grenade through the head was a rad idea. Like something an American GI would get. I actually havent seen many anti-nazi, anti-Japanese american tattoos around. Wonder why that is.

I know there's the anti-chinese flash from the early 1910s, but nothing on the axis powers. Strange.

    Thanks! So glad I'm done!

Thanks! No worries! Chad is also super fast! That's also part of why I chose him to do my chest piece. Great guy!

Thanks! Yes, that's the price to pay! Luckily I don't have to do it again!

I was talking to Chris Anthon about Chad yesterday and about how much he hurts. He had his face done, and said he practically outlined the whole thong with one pass. No wonder people say he hurts! The long drags are always the worst part!

  4. Businesses should be alloud to discriminate against anyone they want to. Its a priveledge to eat at a restaurant, not a right. This is the same situation as people complaining that they're discriminated against in job interviews because of they're tattoos/piercings. They're in their right for not hiring who they want for any reason.

Besides, why would you want to eat/work somewhere where you're not welcome, just because they were forced to hire/serve. Imagine if tattooers were FORCED to tattoo anyone and anything, just so no one feels left out. Doesnt really make sense.

will he do a tattoo off somebody else flash?

Hard to say. I asked him. Im certain Dave pulled it off something, so Id just ask for John's version of it. Or Dave would just let him tattoo it. I dont think it would be a huge deal for him.

    We'll see.

EDIT: Hes cool with it. Its pulled from a picture machine sheet so its all good.

  6. First tattoos were wild roses on each hand and a shrimp on my collar bone 3 years ago when I was 18. They were original drawings from the t-shirt artist Craig Robson, whom was my favorite artist at the time. I was entoxicated by art school culture and didnt really think ahead. I initially wanted the shrimp behind my ear but decided to not because I thought it would hurt too much.

I regret them because they were pulled off the internet and I enhibited the artist from doing a better job because I wanted them to be exactly like the picture. I also regret getting them on my hands, as they cant be covered. Getting anything on your hands/head is a bad idea in general, let along as your first tattoo. I also regret getting the shrimp on my chest as it enhibited me from getting a large chest piece latter on.  I told the artist to make it darker after my bad heal for a touch up and it's sort of just a dark mess now. I've seen worse out there but if I was to get laser surgery these 3 would be the ones Id get rid of. I should have gotten them on my leg or something. Much easier to hide and work around.

I dont have any good photos of the shrimp as its hard to photograph, but heres a voomed in crop of me while I was getting my chest tattooed.

  7. Im not sure what sort of tree you should get. Its really up to you, as it seems like this is a pretty personal thing for you.

As far as your experience goes, Im aware of a traditional symbol that might reflect what has happened to you. In Japanese iconography, the cherry blossom (sakura) is an image used to symbolize a life lost too early. Cherry blossoms are very beautiful, but also fragile. They only bloom for a few weeks before they are gone. They symbolize somethong that is very beautiful, but that only lasts so long; Life. They are often paired with images of samurai who give their life in battle and have their life snatched away from them too early. Cherry blossoms have been tattoo motifs for hundreds of years, and make beautiful tattoos.

Something to consider. Do some research, tho, as this is only my interpretation of Japanese motif.

I missed/forgot his name because I was getting tattooed at the time (worst time to be introduced to people), but I met a man whose entire body was done by Dave, including a dragon on each leg.  Getting a dragon from him is absolutely a great idea.

I think getting anything from Dave is a great idea. He KILLED the Hannya on my arm. Had random tattooers at the con just just pull me in to see it, like Steve Byrne. Crazy stuff. Im leaning towards Tamatori the Pearl Diver and Ryujin. Real big and readable. I would love just a dragon but I love woman just as much haha Best of both worlds. Plus the story is cool. Not sure if it would work on my back tho, as my shoulders are very broud, and my waist/butt area is super narrow. I feel like the strongest part of this design is the dragon on the hips, which is why this is such a good design for women.

  9. Find a good local tattooer and ask them where it should go. Every artist is different, and different artists have different abilities, which is one of the biggest factors in how a tattoo will turn out in the end.

Commit to getting the tattoo from them, show that you're serious and you'll get some good advice. Dont shop hop looking for ideas.

  10. Its very difficult to be sensitive when you know exactly why the question is being asked. Most people come here to have their ego stroked about their design, their ideas or their tattoo, and its plainly obvious. They ask for opinions on their ideas, or they ask you to critique the design they made or had someone else make, and when they recieve answers they dont like, it becomes apparent why they were asking.

If they truly cared about the questions they ask, they will be receptive of any response. If I have a question about healing a tattoo, I want to be told off for asking if its cool to let my dogs lick my leg. If they get offended or sensitive about the responses that they're given, its just an indicator that you're wasting your time answering them, and being sensitive about it will only encourage them.

This forum is an amazing resource filled with heavily tattooed people, with years and years of experience. If you want some of that knowledge, you're going to have to put on your big kid pants and realize you're not going to have your hand held here, or anywhere in tattooing.

I am a newbie from both the perspective of joining the forum as well as to the world of tattoos. I do want to thank many of you who have welcomed and supported me. Although I do try to defer to experience, I also recognize that my enthusiasm sometimes gets the best of me and I'll jump in where, perhaps, I should remain silent. Again, thanks for the tolerance. It is frustrating to see people who come here who clearly have no desire to gain any wisdom or listen to counter-points; they are here only to validate pre-existing thoughts. Feel free to smack me, when appropriate.

    You cool. *thumbs up*

  12. What's most annoying to me is people who only take. They come here (as well as a bunch of other tattoo themed web forums) ask questions/seek validation, and when they recieve their info, they f*ck off. What's even worse is when they come here to get their d*ck sucked about their totally sick /rad/unique tattoo idea, and recieve answers they dont like, they insult the members who respond to them, and either never come back or start multiple topics hoping to get the answer they want. How about you contribute something first before you leech off this community?

You could pretty much respond to any of these people's questions with "Talk to your tattooer", but that seems to be too difficult for them.

I have typically kept mine on for 5 days and then take it off in the shower or sink. Slowly. Peeling backwards, not up and with generous amounts of water and cetaphil soap to loosen the seal.

Looks like you may have had a bit of sensitivity to the adhesive, but the tattoos look great. I don't think you have anything to worry about. The last time I used tegaderm the removed film looked like a stained glass rendering of the tattoo and the tattoo healed great.  So don't worry too much about some flakes coming off. I think that's normal.

I will take mine off in the shower tomorrow morning.  My fingers are crossed!!  My third time using this stuff, but very first leg tattoo

Ive had bad reaction to adhesive before, once on my shoulders with normal tape, and on my thigh with tegaderm near my crotch. The common theme seems to be areas where the skin moves around allot, like the neck and shoulders, and upper thigh. That would explain why my shin has almost no problems. The skin doesnt move much.

I will attempt to get the adhesive off tonight as its irritating. I might put some aquafor or Utterly Smooth on them tonight to keep them from drying up.

I think the biggest issue was I put the second piece on too late, after the tattoo finished weeping, and the adhesive stuck to the tattoo. Next time Ill do it ealier, and leave the second piece on 5 days instead of 4, just to make sure its all sealed up, and make sure I take it off slowly. I was in a rush this morning. Also, when I put the piece on my arm, I didnt apply it well and left allot of air bubbles ontop of my arm ditch (where the rope ends are on the tattoo) so I popped them with a needle and pushed the air out, and patched over them. This left wrinkles which filled with fluid and hardened, which was very uncomfortable. I know not to do that now.

Once they stop being so sensitive Ill feel much better about them. Thanks for the quick responses!

  14. I just removed my second pieces if saniderm from my 4 new tattos today. The second piece has been left on for 4 days including the day I removed the first piece and applied the second.

Fairly painful removal, and some flakes came off premature, and you can see the areas that are "wet".  No bleeding, just "wet" areas. (pictured. You can see it in the black on my eyeball guy) Very tender. Does this mean I took it off too early, that I removed the derm to violently, or that I left it on too long? Whatis the goal with derms? Are they supposedto just negate scabbing and beremoved before it flakes up, or is it supposed to heal 100%, no flaking?

Also, especially on my arm, there are areas where the adhesive didnt come off, and a sticky film was left on, clinging to my sleeve. I hardly had this problem on my leg, but allot on my arm. (pictured. The black areas are where the adhesive stuck to my tshirt)

Also on my arm are places where the skin apears sunburnt. Not sure whats up with that.
